Mazas Viola Etude No. 26, Op. 36 (ed. Mogill) "Polonaise" for DSO/TMEA 2024
Dallas Symphony violist, Tom Demer demonstrates Mazas Viola Etude No. 26, op. 36 (edited for viola by Mogill) for Dallas Symphony TMEA tutorials 2024.
I procrastinated about recording this two-page etude for weeks because I couldn't play straight through it before my left hand invariably became numb. Finally, the Viola Neck-less self-supporting strap came to the rescue! My distracting neurological symptoms were lessened with my head and neck relieved of responsibility for supporting my 17" viola.
On the other hand, I found that my CROS hearing aid devices interfered with my new Audigo Bluetooth mic. So, I put the hearing aids back on the charger and proceeded, although I could not hear on the left side of my head for this recording session.
Aging presents new challenges constantly, but I hope Texas high school violists will find this video instructive.

“In the Garden” - C. Austin Miles - New Vintage Bohemian Fiddle
มุมมอง 993 หลายเดือนก่อน
While visiting Tucson in July of 2024, Melanie and I walked nearly every morning in Rio Vista park. That brought to mind "In the Garden" by C. Austin Miles, which I recorded on our last morning in Arizona on my just purchased century-old Bohemian fiddle that I had bought from Marc Renard a day earlier. I retired my fiddle-with-orchestra show when my left ear quit, but I'm pleasantly surprised t...

Chamber Pop at Fatso's Burgers & Blues 1992
มุมมอง 2003 ปีที่แล้ว
Summer of 1992. Chamber Pop was playing every local gig they could book to promote their eponymous album, including this nicely produced 30 minute Arlington, TX cable TV show. Little did they know that their usual 25% capacity audiences would be back in style during the pandemic. More probably they would not be playing any gigs at all. David Cook: Songwriting, Vocals, Guitar Todd Cotharin: Drum...

My old Flute, Viola, and Harp trio recorded a CD for Klavier Records in late November 1992. A couple of weeks before that we played the same pieces in Fort Worth, TX on the Spectrum Chamber Music Series as preparation for the recording session. My wife was about to have a baby and we had just bought a camcorder. That's what we used to tape this concert, the only complete video recorded concert ...
SSF 6AM strings session 2-13-2008
มุมมอง 674 ปีที่แล้ว
When my son was in school I learned DIY record production to aid the kids in recording CDs by their garage band. The steepest learning curve was in getting bed room-recorded drums to sound like the radio. But all the parents of the band members were professional string players. We were all over dubbing a string section onto my son's songs.
Hornpipes Set: Boys of Bluehill / Off to California / Independence
มุมมอง 1.7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I've run out of free time for Celtic fiddling lessons this summer with the master, Keyreel Raskolenko. The last lesson was a week ago. My final practice set is hornpipe: Boys of Bluehill, Off to California, and Independence. The one of a kind Kurt Schoen Resophonic Cigar Box Violin was noticed in the background on some of my previous videos. A musician friend requested that I play it for one of...

Jigs Practice Set v 3: Out of Ocean, Morrison's, Calliope House
มุมมอง 1224 ปีที่แล้ว
During stay at home orders I'm learning Celtic fiddling. I am a lifelong classical string player, and I've always loved listening to this style of music, but I'm a basic beginner at actually playing jigs and reels. Finally getting around to playing in this style is a bright side to the pandemic.

may I ask what size is your viola?thank you
17 inches Giuseppe Pedrazzini 1945. Thanks for listening!
I was there
So light and uplifting. We played this to our dogwood forest today so that it could hear our friend. Thank you for this gift. All the best to you.
@@hillarydannels9877 So nice to hear from you, Hillary! Your comment makes me smile. 😊
Great to see a viola being played so well! Thank you! Greetings from Canada!
Thanks for listening and commenting! My daughter in law is from Toronto, incidentally. 😊
This is beautiful ☺️
Thank you! 😊
Wow beutifull Im from jordan. My dream is to learn the violin
I met Candy at a Tennis class at TCU in '86 I think. I knew she was a pianist but this is the first time I've actually hear her play. Nice memories. Great work, Tom!
blown away
i was there!
Great job Tom. When are you and Dave Cook getting together for a Chamber Pop reunion ?
I remember
I think it is wonderful that 30 years ago you learned what in all of Mark O'Connor's recorded output may be his finest solo. I took a stab at it back around the same time, the upper position work eluding me. Now I want to take another stab at it! Thanks.

Thank you very much for making this video! I play keyboards and fiddle in our band. Many times I need to play keyboard (i also play the bass parts on the kb as we don't have a bass player) except when I solo. But it's always been too awkward and takes too much time to hang the fiddle or put it down and pick it back up. Haven't tried this yet but am confident it will be the solution I've been looking to find. Thanks again!
Miss my Cook
Love u boys
Tom Dave Brun Greg members still listen
Greg "daddy" loves this band
I miss my guys
Wonderfull intonation, frasing and sound quality.
Good Tom. Big fan all the way back to Chamber Pop. I roaded with Tod Dawson. Bunches of gigs
I suppose this kind of thing is actually more so fair game than most would think. After all, we get away with putting special rests on the instrument so much that to do so has become standard in their sale. The instrument wasn't invented to have those pieces clamped onto them. We do it anyways regardless of the affect is has on the sound and people are never shunned for it.
Great stuff Tom!! Would love to hear your rendition of calliope's house!
Ooh wait you've already done that as well!! I'm gonna check it out right now I'm sure it's just as amazing! Keep up the awesome playing!
Miss that
Good times

Dude that is really good
Thanks, Todd!
