The Classic Farmer
Ireland
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 ก.พ. 2023
Just an engineer trying to start a farm using classic machinery. Theres a little mechanic work and machinery restoration sprinkled in aswell. So come along as I dive into a whole lot of problems.
Should I Stop Farming?!
I Have got to make the biggest decision of my life! What do I do with the family farm? Continue farming and try to make a living or lease it out to a big time farmer for a huge amount of money? Stay tuned as I weigh up the pros and cons while dealing with the first big snow of the year on the farm.
If you’re new here I’m the classic farmer and I’m on a mission to show you, that you can start a farm using old machinery which will make a profit. #farmlife #tractor #cattle #farmer #excavator #homestead #barn

Building the Cheapest Cattle Shed Possible
มุมมอง 9K16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
We have built the cheapest cattle shed / Animal Shelter that we think is possible. So now our calves have somewhere nice and warm for the coming bad weather. Also this week we get started into tidying the farm yard and removing some scrap. As usual things don’t go like we planned. If you’re new here I’m the classic farmer and I’m on a mission to show you, that you can start a farm using old mac...

Good luck 🤞 with your new challenge
Irish dairy farmers absolutely cleaing up
Insane you pay no income tax on the rent...its disgraceful...
Loopholes
If you ever need an interesting chat and a beer give me a shout man please.. I'm into mechanics I was born in a bath of burnt oil and with a spanner in my hand Owning land is a blessing and a curse you just need to figure out how to maximize it all Snail farming you name it
Definitely right decision and in a years time it has or hasn't worked at least you've tried, good luck
Part-times fine but farming your on a run. Then it gets broken. And your wondering where you left off.
Those poor dairy farmers couldn't be giving top dollar. They're all the same, always claiming no money and making nothing. Lying illegitimates.!!!!😂😂😂 Edit... just seen your decision and best of luck with it. Realistically, what have you got to loose?. Those "poor dairy men" will be wetting themselves next year again. Dont give them the satisfaction.!!! Iv always been pushed out of small bits to lease by them, so as ye can tell... iv no sympathy for them😂😂😂😂
Definitely the right decision, no regrets in the future. Looking forward to seeing your progress. And as im in a similar boat to you hopefully gain some tips off you aswell.
I don't know if my tips will be any good but I'm definitely going to do things a little differently than everyone else. Good luck with the farm we can build a good community here
Very best of luck with the project hope it goes really well we’ll be 100% behind you drive it on👍
Thank you for the support :)
Good man keeping the family farm going. I’m looking forward to see how u progress 👍
it will be a bit of baptism by fire but i have a few tricks up my sleeve
Fair play the torture and hardship suits some people but you'll find your reward in the summer harvest and won't even be contemplating your decision in selling in the better months, give us a shout and I'll give you a hand, up from Dublin in the summer if needed 🙌
Thanks for the support. I might just need you i could end up with too many tractors and not enough drivers
Fair play to you lad, best of luck in your venture. You will always have people on here for advice and encouragement
Thank you. I appreciate the encouragement
6:47 thats the best reason i ever heard to farm the land yourself, money is good leasing it but money cant buy happiness, yes there will be tough times but the good times with your own farm will far far out weigh the bad.
Right.. Why let someone else get rich off my back? I think i can make something out of this farming craic
Farm it to frig. Many woild kill to have 100 acres under their control. Keep er lit
My kind of mentality. Why let someone else have all the fun using my land
@TheClassicFarmer will be following your progress with interest. Haven't any ground myself but do have hives, hens, grow a garden, and a but of farm work when time allows.
Lease it out and grab the money take care of your family and go get a full-time job doing something else two incomes one tax-free
Not the way I’m going to go. I’ve had enough of dealing with other peoples problems. I’d rather spend some quality time with my family, Money isn’t everything
Go on ye boy yee love the vids and keep them coming glad to hear your decision I havnt got to where you are yet have to wait for the generation before me to be done but I’ll just live out dreams watching you 🤣💪🫡
@@dannylm7604 hang in there your day will come lad 🙂 I had to watch the last generation lease the farm out for years before getting my chance. But I’m here now and things are going to change 🙃
Best of luck 👍
@@joeclancy868 thank you
Best of luck always enjoy watching
@@smalldairyfarmer thanks David 🙂
Delighted to see you are going all out at the farming. It will give you a quality of life money can't buy and with your Classic machinery costs will be kept down. I wish you the very best of luck and am looking forward to following you on the journey.
@@kevinflood8212 that’s why I’m hoping for Kevin I’ve had enough of dealing with other peoples problems. It’s time to make a few of my own 🙂
you can only try best to do it than not to try then you know and you have the opurtunity to do it
@@russellpetrie119 that’s the boat I’m in nothing ventured nothing gained
Give it a go for couple of years. Work out how many cattle you can keep on type of ground. Simpify feeding to cut time down at it. Keep your job for another year and build up gradually. Then go all in. Good luck with your decision. Your videos are very good.
@@eugeneoneill817 I’ll be all in straight away but I’ll be building the stock slowly. I’m self employed with the consultancy but I’d need to be away with it so I’m cutting it right back. Glad your enjoying the videos 🙂
youve made the best decision money is not the key to happiness
@@stephencoe1703 I think your right I’ve never found happiness dealing with other peoples problems
keep up the hard work man no doubt you will make a future on the farm
@@hughbyrne1474 thanks Hugh hopefully it’ll work out
Best of luck lad remember its not all about money if your happy doing what your doing stay at it
@@ronanmonaghan1965 it’s hard to find happiness in work but I think I’m there with farming
Lease out half of it keep some for yourself part time and work away you'll have the best of both worlds
@@willmoore3790 I’m an all or nothing guy. It would eat me away if I leased half and then realised I needed it for the part I’m farming
Best wishes for the future💪👍 long term you always have the land as an asset, 10 acres at 450 an acre leased out brings a small income but you could do that with outlying fields that are not so convenient for your farming enterprise 🤔 stay safe and strong 💪💪
@@bobpaterson1845 thanks Bob. I’m lucky here in that the farms all in one block so hopefully I’ll not need to lease any
🙏🙏👍👍🇮🇪🇮🇪👌👌💪💪👏👏
When the mf390 were made they had 2 batteries under the cab and having a good heater plug would ease starting it
@@pjshiel6133 hopefully it will make a difference. I’ll get the workshop tidied a bit and get it in to see what can be done
@pjshiel6133 possibly also a bad earth and worth checking this too..
Has it an isolater switch? We got rid of ours for this reason
Best of luck to ye, think ye doin the right thing and ye probably would have in time regretted taking any other option. Besides, this time next year ye will be running a fleet of combines,,,, well,, €700 ones.
@@gerardcallan5655 you find me the combines for €700 and I’ll build the fleet 🙂 finding drivers might be the problem
Crack on, the possibilities are endless. Small scale can be good. Potatoes, bit of veg, livestock, pyo soft fruit, hay etc, as much as possible sold direct to consumer. You already have the brand. Good luck to you
Best of luck lad. Looking forward to the content
@@RayBeglan thank you 😀
thats crazy rent money , how does that work
@@garyreid7865 big dairy farms have driven the price of land through the roof
Wee tip for you lad, when starting to bale a field, you leave outside 2 swathes til.the last. Then when you lift them anti-clockwise, you eject the bale in to field well away from the hrdge so that you can get the bale lifted with the wrapper
Oh tanks I never thought on that 😀 how do you get around tramping the rows turning?
@TheClassicFarmer if yer a pilot at all you,l be fit til avoid tramping them👌
I think you have not enough machines you should go buy more machines and tractors it is so good for the mind there is lots of space for it get 100 sheep for the farm and 20 aax put in 10 acres of corn crops this summer and you will be as happy as Larry
@AnthonyKearney-f4j can you ever have enough machines? I have a lot of plans we’ll see if I can pull them off
Please don't go at the sheep lol
@ baaaa 😂
Good video I farm cattle and sheep part time it's hard work especially when you get older but I wouldn't do anything else good luck in the future PS you should make a wee video of fixing the 390 be good viewing 👌
@@paulthompson8467 I’m tempted to try fatten some lambs but I’m not a fan of sheep 😂. But we will see there should be a lot more videos now with more going on the 390 will definitely be in the coming weeks videos. I have a lot of tidying to do first 🙈
I think you would regret not at least trying to give it a go. If it doesn't work out, the option to lease will be there in 12 months, and you have a consultancy income to fall back on.
@@paulf2529 il have to scale back my consultancy now but I’ll keep 1 or 2 good customers on. I like the idea of being at home with family instead of travelling the Europe for work.
@TheClassicFarmer Makes sense, best of luck. I will enjoy watching how you develop the farm.
Only recently came across your channel recently .I like the videos of you working with the classic machinery.. good luck with the farm whatever you decide to do
Thanks for watching. There will be plenty more of the old machinery coming this year 😀
Best of luck 👍
Thank you
How many acres would you want to run
I have 80 acres on my home farm and another 20 acres leased
Best of luck with it. For me unless there is a big track of land there, a job and part time farm it is the way to go. Never sell it renting will always be there as an option if needed. Looking forward to see what direction you take the farm, thing’s always work themselves out eventually.
There’s 80 acres here and I have another 20 leased. I think there should be enough here to make a modest living. I’m not out to buy a Ferrari but i think between using my old kit and a few novel ideas it’ll work
Good luck with your Farm. Subscribed a while ago. I'll keep watching if you keep posting. I like the vintage machinery some of which I used when doing Farmwork a few !! years ago.
Thanks for subscribing. The old machinery will be working hard this year to get up and running. There may even be a few more additions
Best of luck with your decision. It was a good one.
Thank you
