    Do yourself a favor and add a tie down strap around the tire and the hoist. This hoist came standard with our RV and failed and has a history of failing. When ours failed the tire dragged on the highway. Wore through the spare sidewall ruining a perfectly good tire. I fixed the hoist, got a new tire and wrapped a tie down around the tire and hoist frame for insurance. I think the Hide-A-Spare would work better than this hoist.

    Really interesting!! From the diagram, looks like you probably had a broken spline on the gear and it jammed up. Were you able to take the bearing block off the rail or do they come together? Were you able to tell which slide was stuck before you took everything apart or did you basically have to take it all apart to see which one had failed? One last question...are the bearing block/rails interchangeable or are they different for front/bottom or right/left? Wondering if this would be a good part to have in the took kit? i don't think any amount of lubrication would have prevented this...i can see a rock or something getting in the process and causing a failure, but that's even a stretch. I'm suspecting a simple failure of a gear spline...and man did that wreak havoc! Thanks for the video, I can imagine that was dicey until you got to the bottom of it...

    • @rvingitup
      @rvingitup 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The problem came from a very small plastic part called a shoe. One shoe sits in each bearing block, and there are four bearing blocks in all. One of the shoes slipped out of position and jammed in its groove along the long horizontal rail. It was on the lower rail in the rear of the RV. It might be wise to carry an extra shoe, but keep in mind that it takes a large amount of labor to remove the entire H-frame and get to that little part. All four of the shoes are identical. The bearing blocks come in two styles: upper and lower. In our case the gear and the gear rack weren't damaged, we're still using those parts today after just replacing two plastic shoes.

    For those that installed the wet bolts oriented incorrectly or had a trailer shop do it and they installed in wrong orientation: You can jack up the wheel where the wet bold is located to take weight off and then should be able to grease it. Then re-orient the wet bolt when you get some time.

    The struggle is real, whether you are moving into an RV/Tiny house/Apt or just need to have someone move into your home, (aging MIL needing caregivers), or even a death in the family and a family home needs to be sold. Hubby & I have two totally different views. I was raised moving constantly. We never owned a home, only rented. My mother hated Knick-Knacks so if something was precious to me, it had to be small, easy to pack, and I had to justify it. While Hubby was born & raised in the same house and it was sold finally after 71 years. No antiques in it, just junk. Now time to retire and I want to downsize drastically, he wants to surround himself with his comforts. No one wins.

    One of the rivets on the bottom block of the kitchen slide snapped in our 40' motorhome. Probably caused by the left front tire blowing out going 67 MPH. The vibration was very intense. I'm sure it was that shaking that broke the rivet. And, of course, it happened near Keene, NH. 2300+ mile from our home in Arizona. Guess the slide stays in until we get home. Great video.

    Great videos on this issue. I believe i have the exact same issue. I believe the bottom rear block is wedged. Did you have to take the track off of the side of the slide that had the jammed block or did it free up once you removed the screws holding the channel to the camper. Any extra details would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the video

      @@kathypeaceful we had to remove the rails on the side that was jammed. Be careful, as these rail systems hold the slide-out in place. We put supports under the slide to keep it from falling out on to the ground.
