Apeks Drysuit Valve Shortage.. Replacements and Alternaitves
As of January 2025 Apeks/Aqualung has informed us that their drysuit valves are back ordered with no ETA..
If you are at the point where your valve is leaking and you need a replacement and can't find one your in luck. You have an alternative solution
The Apeks Drysuit Valves, which feature a 37mm diameter thread, have typically been installed on drysuits using a rubber valve pad or a marine-grade silicone. (For comparison, Sitech Valves have a 33mm diameter thread.)
Apeks valve pads usually come with a deep groove that measures 58mm in diameter, which is compatible with Sitech valves. This means you can use these valves interchangeably even though the hole in the drysuit is larger than the Sitech valve.
If your drysuit lacks a pre-installed valve pad, you can easily install one by applying a small, rice grain-width layer of Lexel Marine Grade Silicone to the base of the valve.

    First, great video - thank you for that! Silly question here: when attaching the weight pocket per your video instructions, having the nut on the inside (against my back) is pocking and uncomfortable. When I reverse the screw (nut against bladder) and point the flat screw against my rip it gets more comfortable as flatter but then the nut obviously faces/points towards the bladder. Unless the bladder is fully inflated, I could not see this being an integrity issue for the bladder itself through wear and tear / friction over time. Worst case, of course, a puncture of the bladder (more important than my comfort). Question though is, can the nut be reversed in not pointing/pocking into my back and do you foresee any issue going that route for the benefit of comfort? Thanks!

      I used to use that all the time. It works great! It does stink when they break and then you need to re-zip tie them and you are out in the water but if this happens to you you can always use a double ender and they normally will snap right around a hose and work in a pinch too

    Hello, I have a question about whether it is worth buying the Atomic M1 or B2 in 2025. I am interested in this brand but I am not sure which model to choose, M1 or B2, so that I can dive in cold waters below

    • @timsgeartips
      @timsgeartips 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The great thing about atomic regulators is you are dealing with the same A+ design from one of their regs to the next. The M1 is popular with the technical diving community and is built with the metal, Monel. It does well in high o2 environments and was built without the use of the 2nd stage hose swivel to limit failure points. The M1 first stage is sealed to keep out contaminants and to offer better cold water performance. The B2 is the most popular recreational regulator Atomic produces and it is made of Brass. It has the 2nd stage hose swivel to offer more comfort. The B2 can you purchased as a sealed regulator or un-sealed. IMO go sealed to keep out salt and coldwater from touching the internal components of the first stage... You cant go wrong with Atomic!

    • @manius_dive
      @manius_dive วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ So, the M1 will be the best choice for me since I mostly dive in cold waters, which are not always the cleanest 😂, and on vacation, I dive in warm waters 😎.

    GREAT VIDEO, Tim!!!! In addition, I learned the following tips from Jill Heinerth's You Tube video "How To Select Easy Inexpensive Dry Gloves for Scuba Divers" in which she has a great tip that I use for donning and doffing these inexpensive pullover gloves!!!!! I use a PVC pipe that I purchased at Home Depot that couples right over my drysuit's permanent suit cuff. Then, the "pre-loaded" glove (gloves fingers loaded through the PVC and the glove's cuff folded back over the PVC coupling) can EASILY be pulled [BY ME!!!] (i.e., self-donning!) over the suit's wrist cuff ... and ***VOILA!!*** you're ready to dive!!!! P.S. The other tip I've discovered is that when diving with dry suit gloves, I recommend using Bolt Snaps that feature "Big Grip" tabs to manipulate the snap's gate plunger/closure!!! The rounded teardrop-shaped [low profile] "tabs" are better suited for use when diving in warm/temperate water in which you're using either NO wetsuit gloves or thin (3 - 5 mm) wetsuit gloves! Appreciate Your Thoughts in a Reply. Morgan

  • @AntonLundin
    @AntonLundin 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    One system you didn't mention is the seal-on-seal variant, were you buy dry gloves with a seal on them, which you just place on top of the latex seal from your suite. This is somewhat tricky and requires some practice, just as with pull over gloves, but with practice you can do it in 30s. You first put on your glove liners, then the dry suit to use the glove lines as the spacer between the suit seal and your arm for warmth and equalisation of the glove. I ran this for many many years, and this is the least bulky system you can ever have. No rings, no hard parts. When I started doing longer and colder dives, 2h+ and 4c, this became to cold due to the fact that you only have a compressed glove liner and two layers of latex between your arm and the surrounding water. Even if you size your latex cuffs correctly, it will slightly reduce the blodflow to your hands. That's why I've moved to using the quck-cuff system, and I'm mounting my latex gloves directly in the "cuff" ring. This means no seal, and no compressed undergarments and this is what I need to do 2h+ dives in 4c without electric heating in the gloves. I just love having the gloves directly on the suite without any moving parts and orings that can leak.

    What are your thoughts on the psi system. Thinking about ordering an Argonaut 3.0 and was looking at the ultima or PSI system. This is my first time getting into a trilam suit. So lots of research going on. Cheers.

      Psi has been working great for us. Easy to don and doff, haven’t had a leak yet (knock on wood), I like that it’s a bit lower profile compared to the ultima system what I was using

    What is the Velcro strap used for on the gloves?

      Restrict air flow, so you dont end up with ballooned hands when you raise your hand up

    I have the fourth element dry suit already, can I use other dry gloves system? Such as kubi or santi?

      Did you have a wrist seal system installed on your FE? (hard round or oval rings?)

      @@lemenpumpkin5077 you could use kubi but it will be quite bulky. The cleanest (less bulk options would be) ultima twist, sitech Virgo, sitech Antares, psi press lock, fourth element ellipse, or rolock
