My first psychosis episode was when my son was about 3 months old... I had had a miscarriage before him ("chemical miscarriage" or what ever it's called, first trimester miscarriage), which is so hard even still to deal with, my husband and I had been trying for a baby... When I was 35-36 weeks along with my son my in laws house and my car caught on fire, I was the first person to show up (had been borrowing a car cuz my father in law had just fixed it) and saw their cats bodies lined up in the front yard, And I almost went into labor from getting too upset. My baby was extremely colic, and I had no support and my husband works constantly, my parents had to move out of state right before he was born, and not long before I gave birth my husband's car broke down too so we had one car that we were borrowing but my husband had to use it for work... I was a prisoner in my own house, my husband and I hadn't really been "okay" since the miscarriage and fought all the time and after 3 months of basically no sleep, no one, until literally 2-3 days ago, understood why I wasn't handling motherhood well at all and why I would BEG for help, and now my child is almost 2. It took me having multiple psychosis episodes multiple days in a row this last week for someone to take me seriously, and it was almost too late.

Thank you for another awesome episode. Been listening to you for years and I always recommend your podcast to my other mom friends, not that I have many lol. I just had my 4th baby 3 months ago, after having my tubes cut and burned. He was a huge surprise, and now I am dealing with pp anxiety and pp ocd. With that , my nightmares I use to get have started up again. I was curious if you could explain nightmares , or if there's a podcast of yours that discuss them. The one particular nightmare is kind of a sleep paralysis situation I think, and it has been re occurring to the point so.etimes I am afraid of sleep. I have yet to find anyone who knows about this and was hoping you could point me in a direction, ANY direction lol also I just started bupropion, if that helps. Thank you so much Kat for everything you have helped me through ❤

Deep, thank you!! I kinda laughed in realisation when acknowledging the thought process and energy needed. It may well explain the frequency of my neurodiverse shut downs and such. I've spent a lifetime consciously trying not to negatively affect others with issues such as these and work on myself intuitively. Now I'm finally able to self educate myself and I'm very grateful! I've finally found solitude to ponder things over and I think I'm making good progress. Therapy is on the way, but it's been three years waiting. Thank you so much for your enlightening content!

I am still struggling with that 11 months postpartum. I’m getting better but I was also told I had post partum depression. Nobody mentioned OCD and so I just felt crazy. My therapist told me that I’m having these thoughts because there’s a part of me in the back of my mind that wished I didn’t have my baby. Which wasn’t true at all, but she told me that. It didn’t feel right, and it made me feel worse. My mom actually noticed that some of the symptoms I described to her had to do with OCD. My mom did better figuring out what was wrong with me, than my therapist did. My therapist was great other than that though. But I wish I had been treated from the beginning for OCD. I just barely found out it was OCD. I feel so much less alone, but I still struggle. I still feel like a terrible mom. I’m trying my best

There are therapists who are well trained and understand postpartum ocd well AND can help you feel better if you're still wanting further healing. postpartum support international is a great resource for support. ocd and anxiety will have you feeling like you're a bad mom, but that's the lie that those conditions tell you. You can feel better with the right help. I wish you the best.

I dont think the gender neutrality is helpful here. I think mothers end up as the default not purely based on indiviudal couple factors, or working arrangements. But based on dominant cultural patterns and expectations about who 'ought to be', who is 'good at' or who should be expected to sacrifice (employment/education/career goals, leisure time, disproportionate to the other partner in a marriage. Its all tied up in socially constructed gendered roles of parenting, masculinity and femininity.

I am now paying out of pocket for real healthcare, outside the system, getting tests and labs covered by my insurance wherever I can. Not to discount my praise for those providers like Emese who really care, but even they are limited in what they can do by the insurance networks, and, ultimately, by big pharma.

I just talked to my husband about this today, nobody is educating men on how to deal with their pregnant spouse or what is going to come along without experience So many relationships are damaged long-term during that time period. And men tend to be very close-minded or stoic and ignore small things or wave away the intense feelings that are being had by the pregnant spouse And that is so altering to women and the way we view the men in our lives that it prominently estranges them

My doctor used the blanket term high risk when needed for my pregnancy but she would often call it a risk of death pregnancy since I almost lost my child more than once and was at risk of my own life the entire time.

oh my gosh. that sounds so scary. I hope you have/had the support you needed to cope with that.

@@MomandMind I didn't have much support but we are doing a lot better well my daughter was born pretty okay health wise but she took quite a toll on my health. I'm not allowed to do roller coasters anymore cuz it took such a strain on my heart that if I go on anything that would cause my heart rate to spike it might kill me. I have three medications I'm taking for the rest of my life and I'm in physical therapy. I was in labor for 4 days before they had to induce when my heart stopped and I coded for a few minutes. Still I wouldn't trade her for the world or a longer life

@@IriyahIsrayl I am not at the same doctor anymore unfortunately because I had to move to a place I was closer to the specialist I needed. But my old doctor had some recommendations on people who they thought would be good in the area I moved to and they have been great for me I'm doing pretty okay I mean I've accepted everything and we're doing as much as we can to get me as functional as possible. My daughter is doing amazing she's absolutely healthy despite all the things she could have gotten genetically it's honestly a miracle she came out as perfectly as she did. And she's growing fast.

Buen video, un contenido de mucha información. Aunque en lo personal me gustaría que tuviera slides para un mejor visualización. Gracias 😊

I have tokophobia and the pregnant vids I watch are making me worse but I don’t think about it anymore and the worst thing someone said to me in a stream is “one day you will have a baby”. Then I told her I have tokophobia then she said “ is that a fear of someone screaming💀” then I said “HELL NO ITS A FEAR OF BEING PREGNANT” Then she said “face your fears!” Then I said “Absolutely not thank you..”

me: “my phobia is my most intimate bits tearing to the point it becomes one hole with my anus” them: “fAcE yOuR fEaRs” NOW how ridiculous do they sound. so ignorant. if they want to tear their punani down to their bum hole, that’s their choice but I’m never risking doing something that could cause my body to do that.

It's weird how many nurses get this psychosis 🤔

    • @MomandMind

many different types of folks develop postpartum psychosis. but I will say, a lot of nurses, healthcare providers and helping professionals experience trauma from all of the difficult things they experience while helping others.
