Fun Scale Models
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 ต.ค. 2012
Thank you for checking out my channel. I have been designing, building and flying model since my early teens and find it to be a fantastic hobby. My videos will focus building and flying- models that I have designed and those done by others. Many of my designs (plans and templates) are available on modelaviation.com and all of those I offer as short kits are available through Manzano Laser- manzanolaser.com/Micko_bymfg_41-0-1.html . Spinners for many of my park flyer models are available from rabidmodels.com My hope is to share some of my building experience to others, and to encourage them to try their hand at building.

Very nice. Merry Christmas!
@@collinmccallum happy holidays!
Fantastic!
Excellent, it looks really terrific in the air!
Are you happy with the servo as retract setup? How is it holding up over time?
@@airplanyguy68 the retract servo set up has worked well. I’ve only needed to replace one of the mains due to a bad landing. The replacement only took a few minutes to swap out.
Congratulations on the model, it flies really well. You also have a nice airfield with an asphalt landing strip. But is it always warm and sunny in that place?
@@marcotravaglia3706 thanks Marco! Yes Phoenix Az is very sunny and warm 😎
amazing!!! thumbs up!
This looks fantastic! Above and beyond!
Thanks PW, would be really cool if you built one! :)
I want one is there any other options for the covering besides tissue ,not monocote either
@@vrosi1963 you could use light weight film like doculam and then paint it. Or a lightweight film already made in a color
great work!
excellent work
Super Cool! Love the folding wings and the rotating retracts!
@@punkworkschannel thanks!
Nice looking airplane is this going to be covered in monocote or tissue type? Love the folding wings nice touch
@@Mightymouserc this will be covered in printed tissue. There will be a military and a racing option
Can these be covered in monokote?@@funscalemodels9782
@@madhukarjonathanminj2772 a very lightweight film could be used
Congratulations beautiful work and beautiful aircraft, and finally the cherry on top of the cake: folding wings, you are great. We hope to see the plans published on Model Avition.
@@marcotravaglia3706 thanks Marco! Yes this will be an article in an upcoming issue of Model Aviation magazine and plans/templates will be available for download
👏👏👏
Do you have a bill of materials? I have purchased the short kit and would like to get the rest of what is needed before it arrives
@@thewizardivan755 hello, don’t have a list of materials outside of those listed in the video. The model requires 1/4”, 3/32”, and 1/16” balsa. The short kit has the ply needed. Wire needed is 1/32” and 1/16” dia. The wheels, spinner, and other accessories are available from www.rabidmodels.com
Derek, I just read your article in this months Model Aviation. She flies beautifully. Don't know how I missed you had a TH-cam channel; I've watched several of your podcasts with Jay. I'll be catching up on your channel. Can't wait to see your next build- I will definitely get my vote in.
Thanks Rob, glad you liked it and appreciate you sending Jay your vote!
Servo on the mains... was that the 9g? I just read the article. The metal gear 4.8g was in the nose, but I was trying to figure out the main gear in the wings.
Hello, the mains are each a 9g servo and the nose gear is 4.3g- both are metal gears. I think you could get away with non-mg for the mains but would recommend using mg for the nose gear.
@funscalemodels9782 Okay, thank you very much. I'm planning on rebuilding my B-25 foamy and had entertained the thought of retracts. But I wanted something light, simple, and inexpensive. Wingspan is in the same ballpark, around 30".
Awesome
Hello, anyone could tell me how to do a camouflage covering on a WWII scale model? Can we print the cammo on the paper or should I use several diferent colors? High performance is not that much of an issue as they are Guillow's (rubber) kits I use just for fun in the park and flying around memorials in Normandy. Thanks!
Hello, I printed the colors, camo, insignia, and panel lines directly on the tissue.

@@funscalemodels9782 Thanks, but what I'm looking for is how those guys print the whole wing, with panels, camo and insignias, looks just like the real thing... Cheers!
Now that is impressive!
So cool man!
Nice model, nice flying, and nice field! I wish I had a nice paved runway….
Looks great, but no rear prop? How about adding a windmill with nearly feathered blades for scale appearence? I know, it would add drag, but would look cooler. 🙂
Wow Derek! Another gorgeous 335. Your plans are beautiful as well.
Very nice.
I just recieved your plans for the P-40B. I'm currently looking over the plans. Ordering parts. This will be my first build. Thank you for the videos. They will help me alot. Very well and precisely done.
Great to hear, hope the build goes well and the videos help!
Yep! H 219
Great tutorial! You have awesome computer and presentation skills. Looking forward to more!
Very nice
Great plane and tips. My son (12y) flies some small foam planes but want to fly large scale warbirds, do you have any advise about a trainer plane that help him develop skills to fly warbirds? apprentice sts is my first option but i do not know there is other mor appropriate plane. thanks!!
Hello, if he has soloed some foamies already, the E-Flite 1.2M T-28 would be a decent start for a scale model warbird
@@funscalemodels9782 thanks
Interesting. You're effectively doing a physical analogue of what computer 3D modellers call "UV unwrapping".
Great to see a video dedicated to landing gear, it seems to be a somewhat neglected topic. And the model looks really cool as well!
Thanks PW!
These details make the model increasingly realistic. There would like a European distributor both for your kits and accessories. Having an example of wheels and uprights of the P40 wheels value $ 13.50, shipping costs of this goods in Italy $ 35. Anyway congratulations for your beautiful funny models to build and pilot
Thank you Marco!
Does the kit include any electronics?
Manzano Laser www.manzanolaser.com offers the short kit and this is just the balsa and ply parts (no electronics). However Rabid Models www.rabidmodels.com offers a power pack for my park flyer series (including for the Stuka). This includes the motor, prop, printed spinner, esc, and other accessories. They also offer the printed scale wheels.
Lovely flight, and great looking model, thanks for sharing
This method is not good for free flight model builders. Japanese tissues with an acquired skill of sprayed dilute acrylics is skill the best. There's no shortcut for this if you want it done right. Also, it's never mentioned that printed colors are fugitive, especially the red, and starts looking like shit very soon even when protective UV gloss or matt finish is added also increasing weight. Nothing beats old fashioned dope sprayed on water shrunk tissue.
Congratulations on the successful flight of this fantastic model. More views in just 6 days than the last 2 have recorded in 4 months! Its obvious why - this one is a real beauty, the queen of your fleet.
congratulations you are a very good and prolific designer. Nice model, nice flight and nice video. I hope to find the project on Model Avition
Very nicely done! Rare and cool model, and it seems to fly really well...very light.
Late to the game here Derek, but very impressed with your vids so far. Will be extremely helpful in my future build. Thank you !
Wow that looks and flies great. Do you have plans or a short kit? Gotta love sabres.
Hi, this one he scratch built from his own design (unfortunately no kit is available)
That flies so good D rock! Cant wait to read the article. Do you have a list of all your plans?
Hi, Manzano Laser offers my designs- here is the link to those available: manzanolaser.com/search.asp?keyword=Micko+&search=
Wingspan, weight?
I believe its a 34" wingspan and it weighs 16.7 ounces with the battery.

Beautiful job once again Derek! Nice job on the video, as well.
Thank you Brad!
Very nice flight! really cool!
beautiful flight, well done Derek! congratulations! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you Enrique
This model looks super cool! When do you think it will be available?
Thanks. I need to make some updates to the design, but hopefully shouldn’t be too long. Would make a great pair with your Stuka!
WOW, with retracts. We need more buildings videos from you. great work
Thanks. Yes, I have some additional build videos planned 😁
