@@scotthambrick2293 What happened to the Online Great Books podcast? I hope you'll come back some day. With these call-ins and the Online Great Books podcast you help people in real life. Which seems better than making weird people on X angry. Anyway. Good luck with whatever you do. And thank you for having a very profound, positive effect on my life.

So, Bronze Age pervert thinks some gays are basically sexual hipsters? I mean sure, who knows, but I will say one of the things that makes lefties/ liberals seem more sane to me than right wingers/conservatives is when the latter hypothesises on why gays are gay, which liberals don’t go near as how the hell do we know why other people do what they do

An example of a small creation: I built my deadlift platform. It's your standard AOM design. Nothing crazy. But I cut the horse-stall mats, evenly spaced the Torx screws, & put 3 layers of poly on the Birch plywood. It makes me happy to see it every time, and makes deadlifting and squatting a tad bit less despairing for me and my lifting pals.

Scott, you called it. They stepped down in December 2019 and the "virus" (read: State's disastrous over-reaction to the virus) caused the market to begin free-falling in on February 20, 2020. I can't find out if they liquidated any shares during that 2 month period.

"The Problem with Problematicism" sounds like it could be the title of a Chesterton essay. I remember listening to that specific podcast a couple years ago, glad to stumble on this video further explaining it 👏👏👏 The case described in the video is what I've seen most commonly, but another is to call something which is a true problem "problematic", to pull away from the absolute. In this age of affirming everything, no one wants to condemn anything outright, so even problems are now just labeled as "problematic". It's a non-committal way to take a stand-ish. It's intentionally adjectival.

I used to use the word problematic in what I consider its original sense before it became an SJW thing (or at least before I was aware of it) simply as the adjectival form of *problem* or to mean "the one in question". I work in software, so, for example, if a bug or undesired behavior was being caused by a bad value in a particular record, I referred to it as "the problematic row" as in the row causing the observed problem. Grammatically, I think its use is valid as an adjective since problem is a noun ("problem" is also listed in dictionaries as an adjective, but the meaning seems slightly different to my ear). Philosophically, I get what you're saying about things being binary; however, my example demonstrates the "of the nature of a problem" since the root cause of a problem is not directly the observed problem itself. I suppose one could argue that the cause of a problem is a problem though. All that said, I agree with you that the modern usage of it is poop, and it has discourage me from saying the word even in what I consider to be its valid usage.

I had my dad over with this in mind. Though he's only in his late forties he nocebos himself into thinking that his active/healthy days are behind him, and that it's only attainable for his kids. Frustrating to say the least. At least my mom's got it.
