Simple RMS Velocities to Interval Velocities Estimate
Sometimes it is hard to know what the seismic interval velocity is when you are picking rms velocities. Here's a neat trick that I learned from the legendary Fred Hilterman. You can estimate seismic interval velocities by doing a simple trick with your rms velocities.

Free Intro to Seismic Processing Velocities Course on Udemy
มุมมอง 3122 ปีที่แล้ว
I have a course (approximately 1.5 hours) on udemy.com. The course is in several chapters and covers various aspects of seismic processing velocities. The presentation includes normal moveout NMO, multiples, time migration vs depth migration, tomography, full waveform inversion FWI and anisotropy. The examples are simplified hand-drawn graphics for ease of understanding. This course has a modes...
Compare seismic time gathers pstm vs seismic depth gathers psdm for differing velocities.

Compare seismic time gathers pstm vs seismic depth gathers psdm for differing velocities. If you pick close but not correct velocities for time migration, you get minor issues. However you get major issues if you do this for depth migration. This video shows a simple model and how picking the wrong depth migration velocities can give you non-flat gathers and incorrect depth and incorrect dip.
Picking seismic velocities for psdm depth migration. Wrong velocities means wrong depth & structure.

Picking seismic velocities for psdm depth migration. Wrong velocities means wrong depth & structure. This video shows a simple example of one-layer flat geology and picking the WRONG velocities for depth migration. The output gives the wrong depth and the wrong dip. You need the correct velocities for depth migration.
Seismic velocity pull-up & sag. Depth migration psdm images better than time migration pstm.
มุมมอง 6622 ปีที่แล้ว
Lateral velocity changes can cause incorrect imaging in time migration. Picking correct velocities for depth migration can improve the imaging. Clear examples are shown of velocity pull-ups and sags.
Seismic time stack velocities, seismic processing
มุมมอง 7412 ปีที่แล้ว
Picking time stacking velocities Vrms is fundamental for seismic processing. This video shows velocity semblances, uncorrected gathers along with gathers after velocity correction. Examples are shown where the velocities are picked too fast, too slow, and just right.
SEGY ebcdic header, seismic data
มุมมอง 7832 ปีที่แล้ว
SEGY files contain seismic data, or velocities or anisotropy terms, etc. The start of the segy file contains an EBCDIC header. This header is often not fully populated - quite unfortunate. Please put in proper geophysical and seismic information. This video gives you an idea of what to put in the header.
Seismic Acquisition, Processing, Interpretation project, Near Surface Geophysics
มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows a successful 2D geophysical seismic program from 2021 in the Kennedy Basin, South Dakota, USA. The objectives of the project were to image the subsurface primarily for geothermal and groundwater applications - and to have a dataset beneficial for research purposes. The client and data owner is Near Surface Observations LLC. The video covers the seismic acquisition (by Explor) a...

If the layer is not horizontal and dipping, do we still want flat reflections?

yes. After migration, if everything is handled properly, then events on gathers should be flat at all offsets - no matter if the overall structure is horizontal or dipping.

Hello Mr. Kerr, in the project layout, I observed some missing receiver stations. For instance, there is a hole around station 1384. For my Ph.D. thesis, I am developing a new method for seismic reconstruction based on deep learning with a high capability of generalization. Maybe would be nice if I could test my algorithms using real data such as data from the video. Please let me know and we could make some agreement in order to test my algorithm and enhance your data. It is not for commercial purposes.

It is a good short video about velocities on gathers time processing. The same video on depth processing would be a plus.

Hi Ron, thank you very much for sharing.. Two questions… 1. The resulting vertical resolution within the Cretaceous section / 2. The depth of the unconformity. Thank you very much!!

David - appreciate the comments. Check out the slide at 2:10 for comments on the local geology and approximate depths. This is the eastern margin of the Kennedy Basin. The team is still studying the data for more specifics - best to you.
