Come along and experience life in NW British Columbia and all that it has to offer!
“Haida Gwaii Tuna Fishing: Epic Catches & Wild Weather!”
Welcome to Days 3 and 4 of our tuna fishing adventure off the wild west coast of Haida Gwaii! This trip has been full of excitement, challenges, and incredible moments, and these final two days are no different.
On Day 3, the ocean gifts us another fantastic day of tuna fishing, with calm waters, great company, and plenty of action. There’s nothing quite like fishing in one of the most remote and beautiful parts of British Columbia, surrounded by endless blue and the thrill of the chase.
But as we move into Day 4, the weather has other plans. Strong winds and big waves roll in, reminding us just how raw and unpredictable the ocean can be. It’s a humbling experience and a powerful reminder of the respect we need to have for the waters we love to fish.
This marks the end of an unforgettable Haida Gwaii adventure-one filled with incredible catches, breathtaking scenery, and memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey. We hope you’ve enjoyed the ride as much as we have!

Salmon shark?
It was
Is the head a shower as well?
There’s no shower
@@clearlycoastal2102 That's too bad, I think that boat would be perfect with a shower. How do you find traveling around with no shower inside the boat? Lots of places to shower around the inlets?
@@clearlycoastal2102 I'm so surprised that so many aluminum boats don't have showers but fiberglass ones do. I would think it would be opposite.
What kind of boat do you have?
It’s a Hewescraft 270 pacific explorer
We are boycotting all clicker goofs
🤣
Awesome episode!!
Thank you 🙏
Ya we handline on my buddies boat out of gold river or winter harbour. Way easier than rods!!!
So many saying that lol! Definitely gonna add handlines next year
Luv doing those types of adventures but reeling in 15-20lb tuna @ 6-8 knots doesnt seem that enjoyable, havent had the experience so can't say for sure but I think hand lining would be the way to go for me. Curious though, why didn't you run over to HG instead of take the Ferry? I could see it if absolute timing was an issue, might be stuck waiting several days to make the return run! You put lots of effort into your vids, thanks!
Thank you! Yeah hand lines are definitely going to be added next year! We took the ferry so that we knew we could get there and back on exact dates. Just never know with the Hecate
What made you decide to ferry over and not boat over?
We took the ferry so that we knew we could get there and back on exact dates. Just never know with the Hecate
In BC saltwater, from a boat, there is NO limit on the number of rods one can have out, is that correct? Thanks.
That is correct
When the weather rolls in all you have to do is fish in Skidegate Channel's outer-but-protected areas for salmon and bottomfish (not albacore)! Not a bad "plan B", actually. Moresby launch inshore areas are also quite protected from westerlies, and even Gwaii Haanas reserve (east-side is very protected from westerlies) has roughly 50% of its areas that are legal to fish, I believe. One could trailer a boat to Masset inshore areas too, possibly, for salmon/bottomfish. Mostly-protected inner Rennell Sound is a possibility, as well.
There are so many possibilities there!
Great video Jeff! I take it your camera has armour. That was a drop! What speed are you buck tailing for the tuna? What an awesome day on the water
Thank you! Yeah I have a cage on the camera thankfully. That fall could have easily been much worse. We were trolling around 7mph/hr for the tuna!
Awesome
Thank you
Curious why do you run such long leaders behind your birds and boards?
We spoke to a local guide who told us to setup our gear that way
@@clearlycoastal2102got it thx. It clearly works lol! Great video. We run 8ft leaders behind ours and same results fyi 👍🏼
Thank you
Hope the camera was okay. Great piloting work with the drone. A few times my heart was in my chest flying around the fishing lines. Great videos as always
Thank you! The camera was good thankfully! Yeah I got a little close to the lines with the drone there. Thankfully I missed them cause that would have ended badly.
Thank you for adding a few details about water temp, gear used. I don't watch videos to see people catch fish, I like to learn something. Mission accomplished. Thx
Rods look like way to much work. Hand lines for the win 😂
🤣. You’re right they are a lot of work! We are gonna add hand lines for next year
@@clearlycoastal2102here in Oregon I’ve enjoyed a pair of very short hand lines (≈25’)off the corners to start the spread. Then work the rest of the gear in 15’-20’ increments of of that.
@ nice! I’ll give that a try next year when we go!
I did’t realize tuna came this far North. I fish off the southern tip of POW regularly. Any chance they go a little further north?
I just learned a few years ago they came to Haida Gwaii. I’m not sure how much further north they go
It doesn’t seem to be that much further. I think I’m going to try it out this summer. Maybe they’re there and we don’t know because on one has targeted them.
@ yeah it’s worth a shot Forsure! It’s a blast fishing
Prince Rupert.... thats cool, from Houston and a regular to Rupert and Kitimat
Oh nice that’s awesome
Cant wait for part 2. This looks like it was great fun. Where are you boys out of?
Thank you! Part 2 comes out on Saturday. We are based out of Prince Rupert
@clearlycoastal2102 sweet.... one these days we gotta hook up n do some fishin'
That would be cool
I just started reading a book about this area. It's mystical. I like a bit of snorkelling and spearfishing. Thinking about getting a small boat. This video came up. Thought I might get to see or learn something but... no. Just 3 adrenaline fuelled guys raping the sea. Why? What will you do with all those fish? Is there something I'm missing, or are you just out there satisfying your own selfish, short-term wish fulfilment because you can? Really? Please let me know. Actions have consequences. All the best.
Well we will eat all these fish we all have families that need to eat. We don’t waste them and we caught well under the allowable limits so no one was taking more than we should.
This is exactly how everyone should fish. Catch fish from a private vessel for your family. Most people in the Pacific NW live almost exclusively on the fish they catch. Thanks for the great video.
@ thank you! I agree, we eat all the fish we eat through the year!
@@clearlycoastal2102 Fair enough and thank you. My sincere apologies. Had hoped for a bit of reflection but there is far worse going on out there. All the best to you and yours (and I'm a wee bit jealous of your boat :)
Thank you
Solid video!
🙏
Woah this is cool - where were you guys when you got these?
We were a few hours south of Prince Rupert!
Great Boat. Curious how you view this and Kingfisher...same diff ?
Thank you! I love it. I have a few friends with kingfishers and they really like their boats!
Good job , get it done .
Thank you
Where were you fishing? How far off shore? I was told you had to go way way off shore but you can see shore in the back ground.
We were off the west side of Haida Gwaii about 6 miles off shore. I know down south like Vancouver island, Oregon etc they have to run 60+ miles off shore
@@clearlycoastal2102 Thank you for the quick responce. So basically as you said in the video, out Skidicate Narrows, then straight out about 6 miles and you where fishing?
you got it, once off the west side we started looking for the temp change in the water
What's your troll speed approximately?
Around 7mph/hr
BLOOD BATH
It sure was!
Grady, my dad and I ran into your dad hunting in the west kootenays this past week. He sent us the link to the video....great stuff!!!
I’ll let Grady know!
Epic adventure, put on self inflatable life vests, especially the guy going out the transom......you only die once....
Very true
Amazing! Seen the teasers, been waiting for this, worth the wait! Sign me up! Looking forward to next video. So many questions but to keep it simple, what is on the surface ahead of your hoochie?
They are called boats. They push the hoochie out to the side. I show them better in the next video
Awesome video and trip. Thanks for letting us go with you. Commercial albacore fisherman here and guys killed it
You’re welcome and thank you very much!
Great video, guys, what a ton of fun but if one of you slips on the blood and out the transom door everyone might be better off if you had a low profile Mustang rapid floater on.
Definitely a good idea!
Not a jigboat in sight. You'd think the salmon trollers would be all over it up there.
We talked to some at the dock who were fishing but not many around
Great video as always
Thank you
My biggest problem with your videos is that I can only hit the "Like" button ONCE....and there is no "LOVE"-this-video button.
That would be awesome if it could be hit more than once! Thank you very much!
If you could dedicate your whole life to making more great videos for me, I'd appreciate that.😀
That would be my dream!
Would be cool to see a clean and cook to this video! Tight lines!
My daughter and I made a video making sushi with some of the tuna! Yeah a clean and cook would be an awesome idea!
cool way to slay them guys 😮
It was so much fun!
Heck of a trip! Man would that be awesome
It was unreal! We are already planning next years!
Unreal
100%
I had no idea they went that far north and that close to land. I've fished for them several times off the WA coast and also Yellow Fin in Hawaii several times. I'm 5 minutes into the video, I hope you say why you started fishing where you did. Was it water temp, water color, water clarity? Details please. Great adventure with a big payoff for you guys. Well done.
Morons.
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
All in!!
100%
Wow what awesome day fishing. Nice work Jordan on that salmon.
It was incredible. Jordan did amazing with that Tyee!
@@clearlycoastal2102 I was surprised to see Jordan on the thumbnail, I was at his mom's house yesterday ... his aunt Wendy and I are a couple living in Alberta so we see his mom and dad fairly often.
@@brbadventurer that's awesome!
Great Catch!
Thank you
That fish was awful whooped.....lol
It was exhausted lol
Freshies and live’ fish so well
💯
One of my favorite channels of all time.
Wow thank you so much
Now that was a day of fishing!!! Wow Jeff! Awesome stuff Bro!
It was incredible. Thank you
