#199: Paula Hawkins, novelist
Rachel and Simon speak with the novelist Paula Hawkins (paulahawkinsbooks.com/bio-paula-hawkins/) . Born and brought up in Zimbabwe, Paula moved to London in 1989. She worked as a journalist for 15 years, reporting on business and personal finance. Her first book, "The Money Goddess", a financial guide for women, was released in 2006. She turned to fiction in 2009, publishing "Confessions of a Reluctant Recessionista" under a pseudonym, Amy Silver. Several Silver books followed until Paula published "The Girl on the Train" (paulahawkinsbooks.com/the-girl-on-the-train-by-paula-hawkins/) , a thriller, in 2015. The book became a worldwide hit, selling more than 23 million copies, and was adapted into a film starring Emily Blunt. Paula's subsequent thrillers, "Into the Water" (paulahawkinsbooks.com/into-the-water/) and "A Slow Fire Burning", (paulahawkinsbooks.com/a-slow-fire-burning/) were also instant bestsellers. We spoke to Paula about moving from financial journalism to writing fiction, experiencing huge global success with "The Girl on the Train", and her latest novel, "The Blue Hour" (paulahawkinsbooks.com/the-blue-hour/) .

Could these people be any posher?!😂 Love Tessa's writing.
Frank's a Tove Jansson fan- and better yet, a _Moominland Midwinter_ fan! Yasssssss 🤗
What a great interview. Figes so willing to be vulnerable. People’s tragedy is phenomenal. Re reading it now and learn more each time.
This is a refreshingly well hosted and thoroughly enjoyable interview. Rory is a truly engaging and eloquent communicator, more so because he is genuinely a man guided by his principles and driven by the ethos of public service. Sadly a rare combination in the vast majority of his so- called Peers today. So gratifying for him to be given the space and time to display this. Thank you
Really appreciate Marianne's insight and sharing her experiences.👍🏾
I love her, and find her approach and way of talking about her life as an artist hugely encouraging, down to earth and instructive. Thank you so much for this interview! Looking forward to listening to more of your interviews.
It was a pleasure to listen to James Daunt. Thanks! I can listen to him talk all day. He's an interesting business man and bookseller.
Hello. I loved a book Clare represented, titled The Midnight Library, by Matt Haig. Definitely going to read more by him.
Great interview. It's always good to hear from Marlon James.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
