Directional Method for Dimensioning Fillet Weld | Eurocode 1993-1-8
After a thorough understanding of the fillet weld dimensioning process and calculation of the geometrical properties of welds, we have reached a point where we can now proceed with the directional method as per the guidelines stated in the Eurocode 1993-1-8. However, it is essential to note that the overall concept may be the same for users of different standards, such as AWS, ASME, CSA, and others.
In order to help you better understand the directional method in accordance with the Eurocode standard, we have created a video that explains the entire process in detail. Additionally, we also have some examples of the directional method in the following videos, which will provide you with a more comprehensive understanding of the topic. We highly recommend watching these videos to gain a deeper insight into this critical aspect of fillet weld dimensioning.

How to calculate the stresses on the critical point of the weld?
มุมมอง 3119 หลายเดือนก่อน
The previous videos on calculating weld properties and transferring the applied actions on the centroid of the weld were just a warmup. It is time to go one step further to calculate the stresses on the critical points of the weld. This video will use multiple examples of calculating shear and normal stresses. These stresses can be caused by a torsional, bending moment, or normal and shear forc...
How to calculate the centroid and other properties of the weld?

In the previous video, we delved into a detailed discussion of the behavior of underdamped systems. We analyzed the structure's response under different conditions and outlined the corresponding response equations. We explored the concept of damping, which is the resistance of a system to oscillation, and discussed how underdamped systems oscillate with a decreasing amplitude over time. This vi...

SDOF: Damped Free Vibration. Overdamped and critical damped systems.
มุมมอง 9011 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the previous video, we discussed how to model a free vibration system in Ansys; however, in this video, we will delve deeper into free vibration but with damping. Damping refers to the energy dissipation in a vibrating system that reduces the amplitude of its oscillations over time. Thus, it is an essential characteristic of realistic mechanical systems, and understanding its effects is cruc...
Ansys Modeling, SDOF: An Example of Free Undamped Vibration
มุมมอง 11211 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the third video of the Dynamic of Structures playlist, we discussed a scenario where a structure could vibrate independently without any external load or damping. We demonstrated this through an example problem, where we used the principles of structural dynamics to explain the phenomenon. This video will take the same example problem and model it in Ansys. By doing so, we can obtain a more ...

Hello dear Sir, how to calculate the Sj
Hi! Can you tell pleas - what does EN 1992-1-1mean "Plastic analysis" in clause 5.6 "Plastic analysis"? Shoud I do global analysis of my scheme ( e.g. frame, beam etc) with the material non-linearity (e.g. modelinf plastic hinge in linear element) or not?
at 8.46 you mentioned that you can find component of force only and not for stresses ,can you explain it please?
Hello. Why does area of secondary transverse reinforcement should be greater than As,min? I think that the requirement for As,min only applies to principal reinfocement. At least the Eurocode doesn't say anything like that.
Hi, that is true, and according to EC2-Clause 9.3.1.1(1), only in the main direction, the minimum reinforcement is mandatory. However, I usually use minimum reinforcement conservatively in two directions. Good point, and thank you. :)
Thank you so much for sharing!
This lecture is too good to understand. Just awesome. I have a little question. I think durability cover which is C(min, dur) will be 40 mm because exposure class is XD2. Please confirm.
A very good video for this topic. I have another question, how do we approach a problem where the yield stresses are the same under compression and tension but the stress-strain relations are different? What I mean is, if the material is elactic-perfectly plastic under tension but rigid-perfectly plastic under compression.
Thanks Ahmad. But is there any example for shear design?
Excellent Ahmad! 👌😊
You are the best. Perfect!
still waiting for the next videos
It has been recorded. I need to edit and publish. I try my best. Thank you :)
Great playlist. Thank you for video. RFEM 6 also has an Add-on for calculating the stiffness of nodes. Please tell have you made a comparison between manual calculation and calculation in Add-on RFEM?
Thanks for making this video. That would be helpful if you send me the AutoCAD file. I would like to model it on my computer for practice. Thanks!
سپاس از شما
Thank you for these lectures about LTB. They are very detailed. In my practice, I use beam models and module RF-STEEL EC3 for steel structure calculation. When calculating the same beam, I get Mcr = 190 kNm (4 m, simply supported beam, HEA200, load 100 kN/m, the module RF-STELL EC3 specifies that the load is applied to the upper flange). According to your calculations, M = q * L2 / 8 = 200 kNm. Critical coefficient 1.7. Critical moment Mcr = 190 * 1.7 = 340 kNm. How can one explain the almost 2 times difference between your modeling method and the also numerical (not analytical) one in the steel structure calculation module RF-STEEL EC3?
Please send me the autocad file
Thank you Sir
Very informative session ,Thanks, Can you please make video on Base plate/column base design as per Euro code?
Tank you for this video
At 34:01 you said that the reinforcement is 4T25.. Is that 4 bar with 25mm diâmeter of A500 steel? At 44:43 you sai that the diâmeter of the bar is 20mm, and you used that value in your calculation. Best regard from Portugal,
Thanks for a such comprehensive explanation/ But such types of coonections are made with prestressed bolts does your model consider prestression effects.
Brilliant series with very concise information, however it could do with some more examples with a full run through of what is taught. I feel like you gloss over the how the forces are converted into their stress and shear components (sigma and tau perpendicular stress and shear) and how these values are used to calculate strength to the Eurocode equation.
In Eurocode, there is no equation for such. However, one would need to know the basics of the strength of material and stress calculation. If you elaborate on your meaning, I will try to catch and record a better example. :)
Sorry but very boring way of presenting. Nevertheless less thanks for the efforts.
Thank you for the comment. :)
I think the value of critical lateral torsional buckling is for ends which are restrained against warping. what will be the support definition in ANSYS in case there is no warping restraint at ends?
Can this software use AISC?
commenting for the algorithmn
