Why Keen?
มุมมอง 2Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Why can we not have realistic hydraulic mechanics for pistons? It seems if a piston is not extending or retracting, it's default state is "locked". This would not take much to change, you already have the mechanic in game with wheel blocks. You have no excuses for this Keen, please change it in .206.
Bad Roads Lazy Mayor

After letting the grass grow to two feet in numerous places, resulting complaints, the grass finally got mowed. Note the gutters and foot paths are cover in crap. That's some serious engineering. I spy all those O2 gens and refineries, some serious processing power too. It's funny how you get a rover to a certain scale, picking you path and terrain in general becomes irrelevant.
@Wellington6012 to a degree, most terrain becomes passable, but steep hills are harder to climb because of the weight. Wheels are quite weak in SE1, I hope Keen fix that in SE2.
@@kiwiboynp ah yes, steep hills, my arch nemesis. I remember spending an entire day climbing a very gentle slope.
@@Wellington6012 Gentle and moderate slopes are no problem.
I like the layout and colors, it really gives the whole "lived in" vibe
Nice! What HUD mod are you using there? It looks quite nice 👍👍
@dread_mechanic The one that gives thrust used? ExcavOS (script).

Pity the cam car ignored the Speed restriction, doing 40 in a 30 zone. Speed limits must be for others to obey.
The GPS in dash cams is very basic and has a lot of lag and are not 100% accurate. You will also notice the cars in front of me pulling away.

thx, but vanilla flavour "Keen Klang Boom Boom" is my favourite
@@G43maiwaifu I can do that.
There's this thing called maximum and minimum impulse axis. These both control the extending force and shock absorbtion force of the pistons. Try changing this.
If you watch carefully you will that this has been done.
Your ship reminds me of the NOD Carryall, although not directly buildable, most NOD landunits could call a Caryall to get air-lifted to any desired location on the map.
Imagine the suspension/landing gear systems we could create
Absolutely. I have also suggested to Keen a coil over suspension block, and making it so that wheels can have the option to add a blank head instead of a wheel.
Realism would require a tank and fluid hooked into pistons for it to be a hydraulic system. You seem to be wanting something closer to an active suspension that can adjust hydraulics or pneumatics on the fly to raise or lower a vehicle Pistons that are part of a suspension might have fluid inside to help dampen the bounce, springs push back to the intended length but they're not the same as the pistons from a digger.
Pistons in general in SE1 are not realistic. I have a lot of experience in RL driving hydrostatic drive forklifts. You are correct in saying hydraulic pistons used in heavy machinery are different than pneumatic suspension, but only because of their setup. Pneumatic pistons in suspension use gas not fluid, but the principle behind both is the same. Gas can compress, fluids cannot. Any pneumatic effect on hydraulic piston would be slower because you have to move the fluid. But then we are talking about a game, so RL is not always practical as an example.
@@kiwiboynp Fluid has to move somewhere, in suspension it's through holes so it can flow from one side of the piston head to the other. The fluid itself will always flow at the same rate unless there's enough of a temperature change to alter the viscosity. Gas systems don't have those holes because as you said it can compress and expand. It's the spring that's the key part because with either one it is what gets fine tuned. Real world not being practical is exactly why games lack realism
have you tried turning the impulse on the pistons down to almost 0?
@@HighFlights piston positions are locked and cannot be truly manipulated by forces inflicted on them.
Limitations of the current engine. Maybe things are different in SE2.
@klebestiftlp5943 No, because the mechanics are already in the game.
@kiwiboynp for rotors and hinges, yes, but they act completely different than pistons. As stated, the current SE Engine has its limits and will NOT have or recieve and major changes the comming patches.
@klebestiftlp5943 The same mechanics that wheels use can easily be applied to pistons. Coil over suspension in real life does not act in a dissimilar way to pistons. In fact, without the use of an external valve, a piston acts in exactly the same manner as a shock absorber.
@@kiwiboynp You really dont wanna understand do you? Saying all this is nice and easy, yet do you understand how difficult it is to change a critical part and function of an engine you've made yourself literally a decade ago for a game that's just built upon it?
@klebestiftlp5943 it doesn’t require a change to the game engine. The mechanics are already IN the engine.
Titan Lifter, looks great, good sounds too

@kiwiboynp are you only using one mergeblock and one connector to lift the rover?
@@Svedis Yes.
@@kiwiboynp Thx! In my much smaller build i tried to use four mergeblocks but something did not work correctly, the mergeblocks had thier own life. The second version i went for four landing gears but sparks was flying all over and the hull is taking damage but now i think i will try your version. Allso going to study how you made the suspension, its a great piece of work.
Name it Titan-HydroCarrier
Sorry, I've already chosen the names.
Very cool. Triple jointed susupenion is genius. Are you running a script? How are the remote controls being used?
You have to run a script to make the subgrid wheels work as normal. I'm running Whip's Subgrid Wheel Control. The remotes are grouped and used for parking. I normally put the PB and Remote group into a timer block to turn off the PB and activate the remotes. Remotes for parking will not work while the script is running.
Thats dope! On a sidenote whats the music called?

Dude, what thrusters are those? I'm so over the thrusters and needing to use the stupid atmospheric thrusters on planets
How long have you been playing?
Apart from one mod (air tight doors), everything you see is vanilla. The thrusters are standard large grid Hydrogen thrusters.
@kiwiboynp been playing since the very first version of SE. Man, I remember not having planets and mods etc, what a journey!
@kiwiboynp I'll give the hydrogen thrusters another try, I recall the last time that I had to use loads of them and always running out of ice and hydrogen and switched to smaller building smaller ships with atmospheric thrusters to explore. I've had some gaps in playing in between the past three years because of work and studying (and trying other build games like Starbase)
@@jakesieboy This ship has 8 large and 4 small hydrogen tanks. Generally, if you are flying around a lot in atmosphere, don't use hydrogen. Hydrogen is good for supplementing atmospheric thrusters in atmosphere if lifting power is needed. This ship is designed for interplanetary transport, getting to orbit and flying in 0g. It can transport in atmosphere for short distances if needed, but it will burn loads of fuel doing so. I have not test it full capabilities yet as it is still in the build stage. My main reason for building this ship is so my large rover bases are more relevant for players wanting mobile rover bases, but not being relegated to one planet. Should probably be renamed "cobra mobile base suspension exterior drive", because it's not a detailed look at the base, outside or inside, no tour, no details, nothing but a drive focusing on the suspension. Nice as it is.
Details are on the blue print. Along with another video tour by JackRPG.
i wish my mining ship looked that good ( its more of a flying brick 😂) can i ask you where do you find ship design ideas ? , and awesome work man 🔥🔥
@gamingsiim3649 The rover seemed of limited use to players being stuck on one planet. I did an atmo carrier for one of my other rovers, which was inspired by Dune. Figured I would build on that and make the rover of more value by being able to transport it between planets.
I am terrified, of how good that carrier can move
It's doesn't have that many gyroscopes right now. They are all in the thruster pod winglets. Going to add more in the central hull to improve roll rate.
@@kiwiboynp okay, I honestly think that this is a really good carrier design
@@King_Max2023 Thank you

Love the wheels! great concept.
Please to think about mobile base to settlement more widely, what if heavy vessel carriers has more shuttle bay and science cruisers to destination?
Not sure what you mean. But most rovers, or rover bases only have one docking point, if any at all, this mobile base has 3 docking points, few have more. Unlike space ships, rovers are constrained by weight and terrain. If you want one with more docks, my biggest one linked below has 9! th-cam.com/video/tZUjjRzw89c/w-d-xo.html

That is smart, yet why is the game engine shit, it needs a massive upgrade, this would look awesome in UE5. gUY HAS TALENT THOUGH
KSH are currently working on a new game engine, and show monthly updates on its progress. And it is impressive. Look up VRage 3. The current VRage 2 engine is more than 10 years old, and is at the limit of it's capabilities.
