OPEN STANCE AND THE FLOP EXPERIENCE
OPEN STANCE AND THE FLOP EXPERIENCE is meant to demystify the flop shot and its technicals in favor of a philosophical approach to elevated short shots.
The one caveat I did not mention but insert into the discussion ex-post facto is that the hips CANNOT TURN THROUGH THE SHOT, at least with "The Big Lazy". Turning your hips through means leaning the shaft at impact, which means your ball will explode forward instead of "up". Be careful about that.

OPEN STANCE AND THE FADE EXPERIENCE
มุมมอง 2.6K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Open Stance and The Fade Experience is part of a Mastery process, to sharpen ball-striking while measuring adaptive expertise. I begin by setting the ball outside my forward foot with the intention to make perfect contact and insist my ball finishes on my target... all from an open stance. The adaptation required in club face, path, set position, and takeaway is extreme. I do this to regain con...
BAY HILL MIRACLE
มุมมอง 1319 หลายเดือนก่อน
I walked along with Paul Casey and his group at Bay Hill a couple years ago, and watched this poor Wykagyl Mastercard gent bug-cut it around with a HUGE, All-World Slice. I mean drives 10 feet high and peelin' 50 yards... hard. Anyway, we got to the par 3 seventh, and I had to speak up. I walked from the tee to the green with him explaining the clubface-path relationship. On Eight, he hit his d...

KNOCKING DOWN NORMAL
มุมมอง 2.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Half shots are not the same as knock down shots. Half shots describe a full palate of off-speed swings. Not quite the same as flighting your ball, your set up remains as in a full swing. Only the speed element changes. Regardless, knocking down normal shots is the subject here. These shots are ‘feel’ shots. These are the ones the touring professionals do so well. They are the subject of my arti...
GOLF SWING REBUILD - THE BEGINNING

After more than two years away from playing and practicing due to career change, I have moved myself (with move-acquired shoulder injury) to Florida. I am Opening my Open Stance Academy at Mission Inn Resort, in Howey-in-the-Hills. I’ve undertaken a new project as my Academy materializes, which is this series. I mean to show the World what an improvement process looks like, what changes are mad...

When we don't practice, we lose skill. We lose skill because confidence is compromised. Confidence is compromised because we lose competence. Competence is lost because we don't practice. Practice is compromised because we don't prioritize it. #visciouscycle

Lee Trevino Slice Cure? ... A Flatter Swing
มุมมอง 4.8K5 ปีที่แล้ว
As the only teacher of the Open Stance, I emphasize the inevitable athletic response to shallow impact and square our path by cultivating a flatter swing. Here, my man Lee Trevino, explains his way of communicating to students how to cure a slice. “Pay Me!”
Lee Trevino Confirmed My Suspicion
มุมมอง 20K5 ปีที่แล้ว
I’ve written plenty on golf magazine “Lesson” articles, and how little I think of them. My thoughts on the subject changed with the ridiculousness of the assertions therein. My suspicion became that the instructor cited as penning the article didn’t write it at all. Lee Trevino confirmed my suspicion.

His swing is so up right but never crosses the line
Lee Trevino, extreme open set-up, was 5'6" - and he hit it far enough
What is the “chop move” and should we be doing it ?
Thanks John for your website & videos. I am just starting down this path today (after finding the cure in the dirt 'by accident') and have yet to receive your book. One easy question: for the standard straight shot, do your shoulders also align open in line with the feet - or to target line? Thanks, Steve (New Zealand)
Open stance with a slightly open clubface to hit the ball straight and eliminate fats & thins ???
Jesus is God 🥰
F the golf swing, learn how acoustics work.
proceeds to thin the living daylights out of it.
Looks like 80’s p orn
Tits Litzke . Walked in a very distinctive way. One of a kind!
Followed Bruce one year when they played the LA Open at Rancho Park....couldnt believe hi9s shot shape...It wasnt a fade it was a total slice but he knew where it was going every time.
After all these years his swing is still so silky.
I've seen a few other golfers that have similar technique in their golf swing. The one thing they all have in common at this level, is they are all tall or powerful in build. It is a very compact repeatable swing, with very little moving parts. The only issue would be for shorter golfers who would have trouble picking up swing speed and distance with the shorter back swing. But the technique is great for scoring irons and shorter shots around the green.
Sometimes, didn't play because he was fishing. Class act
I agree but explanation was much too detailed. Golf stance to open should be done in minut increments. The brain will adapt in time.
Good lesson. Thanks
i have a tendency to open my stance as i use the 7,8,9 onwards, it gives me greater accuracy, and i find it aids me stopping the ball.
he dropped a sick club twirl
Yes kids that’s how it’s done!
Followed him for a few holes at Doral in mid 90s. He played a 40 yard banana off the tee, but it went where he wanted it to.
just found your channel - been standing open for forty years and playing a draw
Straighter than train smoke
Does your body line up square to the target & stance is open or does your body lines match your open stance line? Thank you & great video.
He shanked the divot.😅
Bruce’s swing is very Freddie like. Smooooth.
How to hit a high fade 1.01
I been golfing that way naturally
What kind of lie do you have to have to reliably use this shot?
There has to be some cushion under the ball. The amount of grass you’re able to manage the club through is up to you.
Speaking begins around the 7:15 mark
Could you please explain your opinion on ball position with woods and irons with the open stance. Thanks
Ball position with any club, in practice, should be the same every time, unless you have to make adaptive changes.
open stance cured my inside takeaway and my chicken wing
very similar to marcus edblad swing, His is open ,ball back a bit has a controlled draw, his is the closest to my own swing. In the passed I have always used an open stance with my short game, wedges, pitching and 9 i. , now after watching Marcus I can do driver as well. Thanks, TOSA, for explaining it as you do.
I can set up wide open or dead closed and NEVER hit a shank! You must understand swing path! Without swing path knowledge, an open or closed stances, potentially have the dreaded shank results!!! TRUST ME! PH D. IN THE FIELD OF THE SHANK!! I hit them for 30yrs. Now 67, I have the best swing of my golf career and weep for those hitting shanks.
I was constantly hitting behind the ball with my irons, a recent problem that occurred after I healed up from a severe shoulder injury. While hitting practice balls, I found it necessary to move the ball back in my stance to avoid thin and/or fat shots. After some more body alignment work, I found myself hitting better shots with an open stance. This video golf lesson validates my experience 100%.
My friend noticed my feet are aimed way right while my club is faced towards the target and when I did line up correctly even a little open it felt like I was aimed way left. Going to be weird getting my body used to it but the shanks have got me bad this year coming across the ball really bad I wonder if this is part of the reason
Am a big fan of your "open Stance " John, however I don't agree with this theory on ball position. The position of the body as related to the ball must be from the line of the heals, as these are what the body stands on, whatever the position of the toes!
What if you didn't use your body consciously, and instead move the club the way you want to move it, and simply allow the body to relax and only respond to what you are doing with the club? It appears to me your mishits are all a function of the lower body movement interrupting your otherwise great motion. This is a bit of a throwback to Ernest Jones and Manny de la Torre, but I have seen proof of this. When I was a kid, we had a friend who had braces from his knees to his ankles, and he played golf with us. He couldn't use his hips or legs, he could only stand there and swing. He took the club back, pointed it to the sky, let the heavy clubhead fall and it would shallow right into the slot every frickin time. His dad would take him in a cart to play with us, and you could not beat him. He hit just as far as we did and he almost never missed a shot. He hit the prettiest little draw on with every club and would shoot low 70s when he was 15. Fast forward two years later, his knees/legs were healed and braces came off. Within a year, and getting move the hips, clear the left side, drive the legs etc "instruction", he couldn't break 80. I have often put my feet close together and copied his braces swing, and it always comes off beautifully.
Shot best round of my life (by about 6 strokes) by opening up. Always been a draw player but find baby cuts a much better strategy for me. Stumbled upon this video as the second time I tried the open stance technique, I was losing a lot to hard slices rather than that nice little fade. Is the lesson in this video that with the open stance the ball needs to be farther FORWARD in the stance to compensate for the adjustment?
Talking feet
Fred Couples... 295 yard drive over 60 years old... why do i suck?
You appear to be set up square.
He's open at address because he plays a fade that's easier on the back.
These shots were drawing.
Just out of curiosity, what would be your normal yardage for a full 4-iron, versus a knockdown 4-iron? I'm 53, and at 40 could hit my blade 4-iron about 215 and land it soft. Now I can barely bounce and roll my cavity-back 4-iron 200. I've never thought of trying to knock one down, though. My other comment is that, to quote Ben Hogan, "the secret is in the dirt." I applaud your efforts at finding it.
That’s about my stock 4 iron, too. Distance depends on wind/ elements, of course. These were in the 180-190 range, as I recall. The flag in line with the covered bays is 165 front-185 rear, and most of my KD4s were landing where I couldn’t see them.
I was taught this 25 years ago by John Mason at Encinitas Ranch. I recently went back and looked at some video as I was struggling as I've aged and had some left (lead) shoulder issues, as well as Parkinson's, which some days restricts my rotational mobility. I was on the range today and went back to what used to be an old standby, the open stance. Now I have a feeling of freedom through the ball. My reacent teacher had me trying to shallow out and I jsut couldn't do it physically until I opened my stance a bit. Thanks for explaining and giving a refresher.
What about wedges ? How would we set up to hit wedges in tht open stance
He recommends the same amount of open and a different ball position and side tilt with each club to keep our shoulders square to the start (target) line.
It doesn't look open to me ?
Jims closed stance, but move the ball abit right, this pleases all.
Are your clubs upright, seems like it on video, also do you swing along the body line? Any special hand action coming thru impact, right under left to fade it?
Clubs are 1.5 degrees flat to TM spec. What I wanted to do was get my club shaft and hands set at the top to create mechanical and feel synergies. Control of your set position allows you to understand contact and ball position changes more quickly.
sweet video. Love seeing Rickie swinging the club well
