This is Circassian folk dancing This dance is called "Kafa" or "Pshe Kafa", It's the dance of the Kabardian nobles of Kabarda (one of 12 Circassian tribes) The man and the lady who performed in the middle are representing a Kabardian noble prince and princess The dance is performed by the Kabardian group 'Kabardinka" from the republic of Kabardiano_balkaria historically known as Kabarda in Russia, the group is 85 years old, it was formed in 1935 Circassians have many types of dancing.. but personally this one is the most elegant. The dress they're wearing is called "Cherkesska" and it's named after them "Circassians/Cherkessians" and it was adopted by most of the northern Caucasian people (from Abkhazia on the Black sea to Dagestan on the Caspian sea) as a traditional dress, even adopted by the Russian Cossacks and Georgians in the South Caucasus Circassians have faced a tragic event in the 19th century after a long and brutal defensive war against the Russian Empire which lasted 101 years (1773_1864) As a result of this war the Circassians were expelled from their homeland ( Historically known as Circassia ) to settle in the Ottoman Empire The war left about 500.000 casualties among Circassians, the rest (2_3 mil) were expelled, transported by heavily overloaded unqualified Ottoman ships through the Black sea.. a large number of them died on the way to Turkey (some by drowning, some by plague) One of the Circassian tribes "The Ubykh" who used to live in today's Olympic city "Sochi" was completely wiped out to the last man standing. Circassians today are about 5_8 millions, only 10% of them live in their homeland in the Caucasus the rest are divided between Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Lybia, the US and Europe..
