Given the increased pacific range requirements and the new optical sensors of Russia, I wouldn't be surprised if the NGAD's don't last long And instead we see greater numbers of the SR72. An interview revealed its broadened role of possible strike missions and not just spying. If we can no longer reliably rely on radar and thermal stealth then the days of conventional fighters might be over. At least until we invent practical optical camouflage that can also absorb radar but that seems aways away.

Extremely intriguing. This reminds me of the laast program for what became the current [ F-35 ] ; maybe the program for the F-35 wasn't as high profile as the F-22 program but had a profile in it's own right. Now it's Boeing inplace NorthRop Grumman vs Lockheed. Imagine if all of them were to collaborate making it. Yes each company may not make as much but each company could add their own strengths to it. Which other country could hope to even coming close to equalling or bettering the "Ultimate" that could be offered to the USAF. So the entire US aviation industry vs the world. The cost to the USAF could be reduced significantly making it easier to aquire enough planes to completely replace all of the planes needed to do what the F-22 wan't able to do.
