Your processing is issue I have seen some areas like this with tank/drum contact. Chemicals can’t reach emulsion properly. Vertical lines?
@@stuartbaines2843 agree Stuart, some issues in the processing definitely. Thanks for watching.
Hi Martin do you pre-soak the fomapan film? Did you use already old fixer (what fixer?). I always have succes with rodinal 1+50 and fomafix (3 to 3,5 minutes). Bromide drag is realy rare on 4x5 sheet film. I would say narly impossible. I you keep the standard ilford inversions drag cannot be a problem. Sheet film does not have sprocket holes. To me it looks like a film problem. But realy nice images. A good thought to revisit.
@@ruudmaas2480 Hi Ruud, I generally pre soak at 20 degrees for a few mins. The fixer was fresh and it’s the same box of film that I’ve had no issues with so far. I think I may have forgotten to stir the developer when mixing it up and maybe that could be the problem but still not sure. On a positive note, I developed some film yesterday from the same box using the same process and it came out fine which is a relief. Looks like I just made a mistake on the day. I normally use the twist stick thing for agitation. Maybe I inverted the tank on that particular day but I don’t think so. Thanks for watching and commenting and for the help, much appreciated.
@@martinwilsonphoto It looks like you use the Paterson tank You use the twist stick. Always had problems with that tank. Now I use the stearman Press tank for my 4x5 sheets, and I have never any problems. Only when I mak a user mistake or In the field.
It's bromide drag, is a by product of development. If there are areas of high development, the bromide runs down the neg causing uneven density. The fix is more agitation. And never the less, nice images
@@lute-p thank you. I was never too sure what bromide drag was so thanks for that. It sort of rings a bell in that thinking back, I may have forgotten to stir the developer when mixing it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Yes - it looks like development issue. But it is not easy to say as I do not know the development process used. Fomapan film can also be the one that causes this. It happens to Foma. I even get some issues with HP5+ emulsion - white spots in the sky.
@@rudolffamiev2188 I thinks it’s probably incompetence on my part and not Foma Bohemia 😂 as the rest of this box of film has been good up to now. I also developed some more yesterday using the exact same process and it was fine. Who knows 🤷🏼♂️? I’m flummoxed 😂. Thanks for watching and commenting.
enjoyed your video and empathising with the outcome having just come back in from a fruitless trip up to the Cow & Calf. Try Avon's Oh So Soft for the midges - nicer and less harmful than 'pure' insect repellants!
@@AgillexUK if your going to blank then Cow & Calf is as good a place as any. Love it up there. I’ve never tried Avons Oh So Soft, will bear it in mind for next year.
Great video! Would you be interested in collaborating with us? We are producing a video and photo editing plugin called Dehancer. If yes, how could we get in touch?

Therapeutic photography and very relaxing to watch your video! What's the phone app you are using to find your composition?
@@AgillexUK thank you for watching. The app is called Viewfinder.

@@AgillexUK same here, it took me quite a while to work it out 😂.
Beautiful

I noted several interesting rubs to keep your kit dry in misty conditions. Would enjoy seeing a video devoted to shooting large format in misty, drizzly weather. TIA
@@russellyoung2852 Thanks Russell, I’ll have a look into that. Sounds interesting. Hopefully 🤞 we get some misty autumn 🍂 conditions over the next few weeks. Can’t beat shooting in mist and fog. Might even dig the colour film out 😉.
@@martinwilsonphoto excellent, I look forward to learning from you.
Beautifully produced, I felt like I was watching a movie. Who is the artist singing at the outset? TIA

Just curious what app you use to help frame up the shot? I have a lightmeter app but it doesn't frame it as nice as that app you used.
@@Chris-eh3du hi mate, it’s called Viewfinder. Pretty good as it gives you loads of different lens choices and also film simulations if you shoot film. Also doubles up as a light meter and allows you to take a picture of the scene through the app if you were out scouting maybe. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@martinwilsonphoto thanks! I enjoy the format of your videos very much, nice and relaxing to watch!

Whats Fomopan like in terms of grain?
@@ThroughTheLoupe pretty easy to control if grain isn’t your thing and I don’t really try that hard. If you do like grain just push it a little bit and you can get a nice look.
A cracking image
@@kevinthephotographer9346 thanks very much Kevin.
Nice image. Hopefully nothing broke with that tumble.
@@ruudmaas2480 Thank you. Luckily everything was okay as It’s pretty padded in there. I was a bit worried watching it roll down the hill though.
Admire your visual style and enthusiasm. Regarding the imperfection, I suspect, but do not know, that perhaps a very thin layer of moisture built up in the film holder--perhaps due to temperature/environmental extremes--causing mild uneven contact with the holder backing resulting in the uneven peripheral appearance. Pure conjecture here. Good seeing and great videos! I'm certain your channel subscribers will grow. Keep up the good work!
@@airship9637 thanks very much. That was my suspicions also but wasn’t 100% sure.
3.41. I see it.
Had just watched the Top Withens video so watched this. For me there was far too much video of you driving/walking/having a drink and setting up tripod with about one minute of photo content. If meant as a record of pleasant scenery then OK but the title is a bit misleading. Not for me although I appreciate your efforts.
@@DanDare-i2z that’s the reality, especially with large format and the aim is to tell the whole story of the day. Each to their own I guess.
Why not print in a darkroom ( other than space and need for an enlarger )? Also please what did you scan the negative with ? I assume a flat bed scanner but what model ? I did exactly the same walk a couple of years ago but with snow around Top Withens and nearby ruins. I much enjoyed the video but would have liked more photography content. Thanks for producing and posting the video.
@@DanDare-i2z Hi, thanks for watching. I do some printing in the darkroom (converted bathroom) but it’s mainly contact printing lith prints as I don’t have the space for a 5x4 enlarger. I scanned the negative with an Epson V750. Thanks for the feedback.

@@JamesRBurnsVLOG Hi James, it’s definitely a labour of love for sure. Get yourself up there, I think you’d like it.
one big step to the left would have widened the elements and not kept them so central that my eyes wonders off so quickly.
Having been brought up just down the valley from here, I don't feel that the location rewards the photographer with the epic photographs they anticipate.
@@UKMike2009 yeh I think it’s more atmospheric than epic and a great day out even if the photography doesn’t quite work out.
I've watched a few of your videos this morning and have, of course, subscribed. I appreciate the quiet style of presentation, without too much narration and no self promotion or sponsor messages. Soothing background music nicely blended with bird song. Well done.

I appreciate how much physical and mental effort went into making this video!
@@Chris-eh3du Cheers Chris, much appreciated!
Nice to see "non-digital". Been there several times and had the location to myself (and dog!). The path up to "Top Withens" had Yorkshire flagstones put in place 20 years or so ago to protect erosion of the footpath. These were "stolen" from Saltaire (UNESCO World heritage site) and turned over from the smooth surface to the reverse, to create a rougher surface for the many hiking boots that passed over!
@@michaelthwaite3282 thank you, I didn’t know that.
I think you've done well to take the eye to the building but it still feels lost in the landscape, probably because it's not a strong subject in the first place?
@@stevewturnbull I think it looks a bit lost as well to be honest but I wanted to show the wider landscape as I think that’s just as much a part of the story. Hard to strike the right balance sometimes. Cheers!

Lovely photography. With Fomapan 100, I am usually @ iso 80. Never tried going to iso 400, but it seemed to have worked fine for you.
@@lensman5762 it’s the first time Ive tried it to be honest and thought it handled it quite well. Such a versatile film.
@@martinwilsonphoto That is most likely due to the use of 4X5 neg where tones do not break up so much when underexposed, which is what pushing film is.
Beautiful work and image!! Do you have a lot of dust spots and other weird spots on the Fomapan 100 film? I use mostly the fomapan 200 4x5 sheet film. It takes some work to get rid of all those spots. But I really like the tonality of that film. I mainly use rodinal 1+50 to develop.
@@ruudmaas2480 thanks very much. I get a fair bit of dust with Foma films but no more than any other film manufacturer really and I haven’t noticed any weird spots so far. I’m a big fan of their films, think they offer great value for money. Thanks for watching.

I once photographed a beautiful after storm sence with my MPP MKVII. A couple of ladies arrived on horseback asking me what I was doing, so we got talking.
