Ninja Spider Trimaran 1. seatrial
มุมมอง 7K14 ปีที่แล้ว
Thats the first seatrial from our new Ninja Spider Trimaran. It shows the first Testsailing in Cape town. For the production we changed thebeams, what lifts the outriggers more out of the water.
Ninja Spider Trimaran seatrial

First seatrial from the Ninja Spider Trimaran what you can also sail as a Proa. You have to change the beams and leave one outrigger at home:-)
Thats a very well thought out design, the way you can pull it down and roof rack it is a really attractive proposition. I wonder how it compares to other tri's of this type price wise?
Super!
Who bought the Ninja boats and molds?
Was this ever a commercial venture, if so, was it ever successful?
Thats a great tri.. Would love to give it a try
Zap, click, tap, wack, snap, wow, nice! 💯😎🙏🏻
looks like it would be a dog upwind.
pretty useless test. I thought you were going to drop it on concrete, that would have been impressive
no dagger or center board?
Of course- standard centerboard
awesome
Fun toy 👍
The proa conversion is interesting.
but aren't you sailing it backwards?
Fast as and takes off zero to full speed in just a few seconds. Love how you are going so smoothly and not getting lots of splash plus sitting proud so even in rough water I can imagine the splashing is minimal. And certainly very easy to assemble.
Maravilhoso parabéns.
Мечта))
Needs foils bro,
это уже не проа))
Still for sale ???
Cannot see a good reason for such a test. It would have been more meaningful to have supported the craft on a diagonal and see how much load those braceings would take. I would say that the most punishing for a trimaran and a catamaran is taking the wave diagonally and so that would be a useful test especially a repeated cycle test.
bad euro-music beat
To a proa purist, this seems like too much of a compromise. Take the interesting advantages of a proa then rig it like a conventional boat - why? so its more familiar to conventional sailors?
Tacking a proa by shunting in an average New England summer day means doing that in 25 knots of wind. Few people I know can do that. Adding a tacking sail like a Sunfish is a good adaptation.
FYI if if were a Ninja you wouldn't see it

This is an amazingly well thought out boat. Did anyone buy it from you?
Didn't see the mainsail go up..Some specs and speeds would be great, and the price.
liam moore both named Liam, both have a last name that starts with a M...
A good monodromic proa; one side pacific proa, on side atlantic proa and tacks like a normal boat. Called also tacking outrigger. The first I know was the cult 18 feet Malibu Outrigger in the fifties and sixties, Chris White sold the plans of a 16 feet one Dragonfly around 1982. I made one on 1985 (16 feet 180 lbs 110 sq feet main sail plus gennaker). It's a very funny boat, even in light weather when the others are scotched in the water, but not the fastest in front of cats in a regatta. Goes very well upwind and tacks very fast, it's the strong point. If built sturdy, it's the best thing for jumping and surfing waves, with 10 feet waves and a 20 knots wind it's totally exhilarating; I made mine for this lone purpose. It's easier to sail that it seems, but make your learning trials in a secluded beach far from the others as the first day will be a bit ridiculous...For great fun the closest thing is a Moth International and it's descent the Moth on Foils
What is the asking price ?
290000
I saw her out at Langebaan in November 2019. Is she still for sale?
I dont get it, why not make it a catamaran with an center mast or add another outrigger and make it a trimaran? WHat are the advantages of this setup?
***** Ease of righting, lighter weight.
Faster speeds, self-rescue, ease of assembly, lighter weight, and it's just cool.
It is a beautiful boat. I like the neat design of the outrigger. Looks like the cut and folding of the hull could easily be made from plywood. Very nice indeed such simple elegant curves
great video! two things I'm missing: how long does the setup take? how fast is it? @6:30 it seems to sail without wind (or almost none) ;-)
Very sorry to find that these are no longer being produced. Would have bought one in a skinny minute.
i could be your agent in the Northest, USA give me a boat ill sale it!
wow
Agreed. It's a tacking outrigger, not a proa (which shunts, using either end as the bow). And no safety ama?
Joseph, you just saved me typing all trhat. She'll be a bit tender on Stbd. tack.
yes, you maybe right, but it is a rough cut and not a promotional video AFAIK. But look at the moves it makes - being "cut" and "arranged" like this, you are not distracted by marketing sounds and foleys and songs and slogans etc. By the way: it reached more than 65,000 hits by now. I call that a nice one.
non shunting
This is NOT a proa, it's a single outrigger canoe. You'd think the makers would know that!
This thing looks like a weta tri missing an outrigger.
remember the Malibu outrigger ??
Quite possibly the worst promotional video I have ever seen.
if you'll buy it.. doesn't come with a free one
One of those few wind still days in Cape Town hey boet? Let's see it in a good old South Westerly wind. :)
Shame about the noise!!!
Of course this is a proa. The same as Crossbow [ the world speed record holder] was a proa, just a one tack proa. This is a one tack Atlantic proa and on the other tack its a one tack Pacific [flying ]proa
A proa is a symmetrical outrigger canoe, with the mast in the MIDDLE of the larger hull. It tacks by changing direction, shuttling backwards and forwards upwind. Typically, the ama is up wind, and the boat is trimmed by hiking out towards the ama until the smaller hull is just skimming or above the water. Changing directions on tacking is the hallmark of a proa. Google for more info
My twopennies worth. Proa has asymmetrical hull . And whole vessel is not symmetrical,.And all boats change direction when they go in the opposite direction I think you meant to say the rig is changed when going in opposite direction after shunting.. Cheers.
What does a proa look like then?
Beautiful boat! But not a proa.
Hey... That;s in Cape Town! Nice boat...
This looks like what I used to dream of when I had my Malibu Outrigger.
