How to Hand Pollinate Dragon Fruit Flowers
Here is how I am attempting to hand pollinate my dragon fruit flowers. I am, basically, twisting the stamen around inside the stigma and hoping the pollen will fall off and take care of the rest. I started using this technique after I felt helpless watching my first ever dragon fruit flower wilt, fall off, and result in now fruit.
I am hopeful this will result in several flowers setting fruit.

Why do Sine and Cosine Make a Circle?
มุมมอง 177 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In this video, I show you how sine represents the y value of a circle and cosine represents the x value of a circle. By transposing the cosine wave so the amplitude of the wave represents positive and negative x values, we can chart the circle using the intersecting lines made from a vertical line through the x value and a horizontal line through the y value. Hopefully, this video makes sine an...

      @@craigweinzapfel It's almost like the plant knows what to do. 😅 Your main job is to provide water and fertilizer as needed. You also need to prune and train it to climb a trellis, if you have one. Other than that, the plant can usually figure out what to do with the buds. I like to see which buds the plant wants to keep before I start thinning them out myself as most of them fall off while they are still quite small. I love dragon fruit plants. They are easy to grow.😊

    you might be able to get them to produce if you separated all the large plants into their own pots and give them plenty of room. Bring them inside in late fall, or wrap them, don’t cut them back.

      @@craigweinzapfel I’d wait until your temps are not blazing hot as they go through a little stress as it is. Use a sharp, clean (with alcohol) tool. Remove the whole clump from the pot. It tight and rootbound, hose it down until it’s looser. Cut your pups away either midway between its trunk and the mother trunk, or closer to the mother trunk to ensure you have plenty of the mother corm and roots for each pup. Return mother to one per pot. Small intact pups with corm and roots can be planted together in a pot until spring. Cut all but 2 pup leaves and use to mulch on top of soil. Use well draining soil, for pots I like cactus and palm soil with at least 1/3 extra perlite added. If you have a bit of blood,eat,or potash add a couple tablespoons mixed in, water and place all the pots in outside shady area for about a week or until a new leaf emerges. From now on, you can keep them outdoors until night temps turn 45 or below, then wrap well and keep on protected southwest area of yard near house, or place in greenhouse or in the home until spring. The best pups to preserve are the sword suckers instead of water suckers. Ie., sword suckers early leaves are very narrow and swordlike. Water suckers grow slower and early leaves are large and full to start with. Hope this helps!

    • @craigweinzapfel
      @craigweinzapfel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Each LED light is 50 PPF, which resulted in a great PPFD when the tree was about a foot shorter. I have about 3 feet above the plant box where I am hoping to increase the box height/move the lights up. This will reduce the PPFD and light output to a more favorable amount and hopefully stop the burn. I think I might need to place a few lights around the mid section of the box to help lower leaves grow too. Then, I dont know what do do with it if it maxes out that height!

    Craig, Cool use of Excel as a visualization tool for students. You state that NO VBA is used in the SCR video but I am curious how you linked the values for firing angle to the "scroll bar" control. Same in your Sine Wave (#2) and Rotating a Square in 2D (#6). Could you touch on using the Scroll Bar control? Thanks.

    • @craigweinzapfel
      @craigweinzapfel 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. There are 2 types of controls for the scroll bar included natively with Microsoft Excel. One is an ActiveX that when inserted from the developer tab will be accessible from the VBA model and include events. The other is a form control that when inserted includes properties that allow you to link the "value" of the scroll bar to a cell reference. Each time this scroll bar is moved, the linked cell's value will update. I link the scroll bar to 1 cell and base all of the calculations on that value. Let me know if this answers your question. If not, I am happy to elaborate.
