Artist shares his #1 tip for how to paint more often!
So beautifullllll
Thank you! 😊
How long did this take you!? It’s stunning
Thank you! About 2 hours I think
Amazing painting and nature 😮
Thanks!! It’s so beautiful out here
😍
🥰
Wow!
Thanks 😊
Brilliant course!
🤩🤩 I’m glad to hear you’ve enjoyed it
You can't even tell the difference from the painting to the actual rocks 😅 your colour matching is the best 😊
Thank you ☺️☺️
Still deserves a like though
You could’ve picked way cooler stuff like the lake or teh mountain or even the trees but nooooooo you decided to paint the Rockes 😂😂😂lol
He can already do that though, he's done it loads of times, so it's nice to draw or paint something different
Make sure you not let the rocks hear you say that, they may take vengeance 🤣
It really resonated in the beginning of video when you mentioned to look for something that interests you and therefore will interest others, not to look for something that others might be interested and therefore missing "passion" elements. Just before this video, watched an video of a random dude(for me at least),who talked about good/bad art. One comment struck me with saying if something is stirred up within artist upon making a piece,it will also ripple to others. And here you are saying something so similar, making me think - yes, this is it! This is the sign! Received an answer I was looking for a while, lost this knowledge, just to find it again! Thanks Justin! 🌲
So glad to hear it resonated ☺️☺️ it’s always worth the reminder, for myself as well
Wow it’s so beautiful
Thank you!!
12:30 Majestic walk off into the heat of the desert * runs back to fetch camera * Fantastic as always Justin
Haha yep, the life of a vlogger 😅 thanks!
😍 gorgeous. And you matched the colours so well!
Oh thank you 😀
Wow ❤
Thanks!
Great job!
Thank you!!
@@JustinDonaldsonArt you’re very welcome! You do beautiful work.🙌🏻
this is incredible ☺☺
Thanks!!
So good one of your best videos yet!❤
Thanks!! I’m curious about what makes it one of the best (if I know, I might be able to improve the upcoming videos 🤩)
@@JustinDonaldsonArt you seem very confident in your setting and you spoke relaxed, yet excited. The pace of your speech, especially the pauses for emphasis are really well timed. I appreciated your openness about when things don’t go well or the unexpected causes you to change things up-very authentic. The filming, script and music are very inviting and really added a professional quality, and like I said before-time to get that Netflix series going. Really well done Justin.
Haha thanks 😊 much appreciated
I just love your storytelling
☺️
Love these videos Justin! Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks 😊😊
I’d never expect so much coolness in the desert, but wow the sky really lives in those shadows
It’s so true!! It’s kinda like those sarolla paintings on the beach where the shadows get really cool and really dark and it’s hard to believe until your there and see exactly that
We’re gonna need more of these types of videos sir!
Coming right up 😉
Did you use gouache as watercolor?
I use gouache like watercolour during the initial stages a fair bit, then I get thicker as I go
I need to get on a plane and find a place to paint that isn’t always green.
Haha, yeah. Green is goood though, I do always love some green. But these pinks and oranges are something new for sure😉
Please, while drawing, put an equal camera so that I can learn. This is very difficult for me, and I want to learn. Please, professor.
It’s so pretty! How long did it take you? I tried pleine air painting before and it was so hard to get everything done in time.
Haha yeah, it’s definitely not easy, about 2 hours maybe?
Beautiful!
😊😊
Coming from watercolor I still can't figure out how to use this... I need more practice.. Btw, that artwork you did looks wonderful❤
Beautiful!
Thanks Sarah!
Amazing!
Thank you!
Great review, thanks.
Thanks!
Another beautifully done video❤
Thank you so much!
Outstanding! I could binge a whole series of this. Beautifully shot, excellent instruction. 10 stars
Thanks so much 😊🙌 I’m definitely planning on a whole series as we travel around the states
Thanks for the vid, great information and advice in a stunning location
☺️🙌
Soo impressed - I can't believe how much work this must have required! You make it seem like it was all one day, but I can see it taking more than a week to organize! It seems like you're setting and filming everything by yourself, and you even had footage from the air! On one hand, I imagine this can take a lot of enjoyment out of painting (judging by small experience of filming myself painting), on the other - all the work to create a wholesome video like this is art in itself, and so satisfying! Looking forward to the next one! By the way I am somehow quite anxious about all the art supplies you had to trim down. I guess my attachments are strong with mine. Also how you moved from your stationary home, that could be a separate series in itself! And wow that improvised pallete and interesting new brushes! I might learn something about oils after all, just watching you plen air:)
Thanks! I make sure that when I’m painting I can be 100% in the zone, everything else is based around that. It is an art in and of itself, very satisfying to create!
I think that light diffuser should be giving shade to the panel I think
Excellent 👌 Rock painting without palette...wow😮
Thank you so much 😀
Keep a checklist before moving out of house...it helps me
great video!
Thanks!
This is so aesthetic, I love it ☺☺
Thank you!!
Are you coming to California? Looking forward to seeing your next adventure,
We’ll be over that way probably next year. The next big trip is glacier national park and down the south west
Wonderful video. Well done. Excited for the next one!
Me too!! 😊🙌
Good luck on this amazing adventure, Justin! It’s truly inspiring to follow along with you. The river painting is absolutely beautiful!
Thanks Lena! I’m looking forward to meeting up and’s painting with you one day!
It would be fantastic!!
Agreed 😊
Ahh man youve got me super homesick right now. Blowing Rock/ Boone area was my favorite escape when I was SC. Hope you had a great time out there!
It’s such a nice place! Especially in the summer!
@@JustinDonaldsonArt Totally! My family has a place in Burnsville and I practically lived there from summer to fall (the leaf changing there is out of this world. The Penland art school is really rad as well!
Oh I hadn’t heard of the penland art school! Sounds awesome!
@@JustinDonaldsonArt Definitely check it out if you're out that way! Its a really amazing school. The Penland area is know for its high concentration of artists and craftman.
I grew up very close to Boone, so this video is like a trip home for me. Beautiful paintings, especially love the one of Grandfather! Surely you stopped by Cheap Joes while you were in town, right?
Absolutely! I went into cheap joes and spent more than I was anticipating… so the usual cheap joes experience 🤩
Incredible production on this. Always so inspiring to watch you work. I hope we get a chance to paint together again if you end up passing through PA! :) Hope you and the family are doing well on the road.
PS Netflix or PBS or somebody should write you a blank check to make a full series like this. :)
So far so good! I can’t wait to get to PA and go painting!!
Oh that would be amazing!!
Brilliant start to a series! I absolutely loved seeing Boone through your eyes, visiting your new studio, and seeing your paintings so far. Happy travels!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
*gaaaah* This is so great and interesting! 👏👏👏 When you see a scene that'd take more time to paint, do you ever take photos and paint the scene in the studio? Do you have any tips for that?
Mostly I’ll just go back a few different times to paint from life - they always turn out better when I paint from life. But if you are going to work from photos (which is perfectly great to do) I’d at least make a few little colour notes that the camera would never get quite right
Incredible! I want to get an RV and load my supplies and goooooo! What an amazing adventure! I see a Netflix series in the making.
Yess!! It’s quite a change of lifestyle, but worth it!
so good j dog!
