Modifications to my ZT-1 50 fuel gauge, seat
so, regarding the sending unit... i heard what you were saying about a better method would have been to use "stainless screws upsidedown from the bottom up." i'm curious as to how this would be done with the sending unit preventing access to inside the tank. am i missing something?
@@nhojcam I have changed, I found a c-ring that fits inside the tank and bolts directly to sending unit from KUSS part # FLS-U
@@brianb3382, i checked that part out. thanks for that. i am still confused as to how to secure something like this inside the tank with no access from below (inside the tank). do you use an adhesive on the FLS-U to hold it in place (from inside the tank) temporarily after drilling the holes? if so, what is the adhesive brand?
@@nhojcam no adhesive, I used two pieces of wire through the holes bent in a L shaped then install screws then just pull wires out, carefully.
My belt came off. Less than 40 hours new mower. Cub Cadet zt1 50. I cannot find the drive belt diagram ANYWHERE, even the manual is confusing. I'm pretty good at fixing things when I have clear instructions. I can for the deck belt but not the drive belt. I can't find any video that shows the diagram or how it goes. When I put the spring back on, the belt is still loose! I cannot figure this out! Any suggestions? Thanks.
I can find the deck belt diagram in millions of places it seems but not the drive belt diagram.
@@bamagym I couldn’t get camera in position to do any good, either spring is in wrong position or belt not routed properly, I had to scratch my head a couple of minutes myself, keep trying did you get a new belt? 1/2x69.125
@@brianb3382 Well, it's practically a new mower, less than 40 hours. No I did not get a new belt. I did put the belt in the pully behind the guide but there is soooo much slack. That's why I'm looking for the belt diagram. I cannot find one, anywhere. Guess I will have to go Tractor Supply or somewhere to get underneath one to look. Thanks for the reply.
Thanks! My ZTS2 50 threw the drive belt. Was bummin about clutch removal. The mower dumped the belt pretty far away, so it has to be a yard fix. The belt Looked kind of burnt up. I was towing a 400 Lb water filled aerator at the Time, so No Foul! Anyway looked like a light duty belt.. and boy are they expensive from the dealer! Finally cracked the part number and did a search on Amazon.. found a kevlar drive belt for $29, looks better than stock for a third the price. Deck belts are like $100 from Cub Cadet.. better get one in advance. Be sure to get the CC part number for your actual model belt and cross that. Thanks again!
@@markhall3434 glad to hear you’re fixed up now 😁
Brian, this happened to our 46” CC zero turn mower today! Your video is great. Looked underneath & this belt was off (hanging loose) & the mower just stopped…wouldn’t go forward or backward. I’m a 66yo gal who loves this mower, but when something goes wrong, I turn to TH-cam! Thanks again!
I’m glad I could help 😁
Hey I've got an issue with the drive pulley that sits above the PTO clutch. What is it called? My clutch locked up and sheered the bolt that holds the clutch in place up into that pulley.
Not sure of proper name you’ll have to check a parts breakdown, illustration
@@brianb3382 proper name.. engine drive pulley. My issue remains sheered off inside the actual drive shaft itself. Well all that's left is to drill and tap.
Nice K bike, too!! K1300GT??
That is a K1600 Gt
@@brianb3382 Wow. I didn't know they looked that nice!!
Big help. Thanks. Couldn't find anything in the manual or online.
Glad it helped
Hey man after removing that screw on the clutch bracket, the screw seems to small now and bracket is lose. Suggestions?
Did you over tighten? Try to bend prongs back
You could drill out and put a nut and bolt through it
@@brianb3382 i was putting the screw through the wrong side. Appreciate the fast response! Earned a subscriber!
I would’ve used pop rivets instead of screws if you wanna pre-drilled the holes and put pop rivets in it, you wouldn’t have to worry about it stripping out
I tried Riv-nuts , had a vapor leak then later installed a “C-Ring flange from Kus-USA.com #FLS-U that did the trick.
That look pretty good Randy I think I'm going to give that a try as soon as I get some shine made up
Thank you for your video. I wish we were neighbors. I have the ZT150 and I wouldn't trade it for the world ! My grass looks totally different since I purchased 2 years ago. I have done the hour meter, seat cable mod, and added a hitch ball to pull my 4x8 trailer around when needed. The gas guage, striper kit, and mulch kit are future goals. Maybe I'll eventually make a video too 👍🏾
Looking forward to new ideas you may have
Where did you get that belt and what size is it?
Got belt at my local cub dealership 1/2x69.125
My belt is very loose when I put the tension spring on. I checked the routing. Any idea why?
The only thing I can think of is proper belt size ?? 1/2 x 69.125
Brian, GRAT VIDEO! Worked like a CHARM!!!!
You could but there must be a connection in the dash that’s prewired , I’ve seen videos of people just plugging in. Mine came already installed so not much help for you
I used two pieces of wire through the holes bent in a L to hold while screwing in,after a few screws in just pull wires out
So could I use the "unused" cable off the battery for an hour meter?
There should be a plug for it in dash
Why do you need a zero turn with a gas gage just put gas in before use
It’s just something I like to have it’s not for everyone
What size sending unit did you use?
100 mm - 4” I later installed a horseshoe ring on the inside of tank to bolt it in, from KUSS USA. Com # FLS-U don’t forget the ohm’s must match the gauge
@brianb3382 ok thanks! Do you have a link to the sending unit and gauge?
@@christopherkellowan5723 sorry it’s been a while I don’t remember but you can get matched units eBay or Amazon
On my 2023 zt1 i don't have the bolt holes for the seat rest cub cadet told me only up to 2021 had bolt holes for the seat
Trash ass video
Brilliant. Thank you very much.
What's the size of the belt?
1/2X69.125
so to put the belt on i just need to put the belt on the garage floor then blink and i’ll be putting the spring on haha
Yup , I couldn’t film with one hand and put belt on with the other. I said it was bad camera work.Sorry
@@brianb3382don’t apologize this was still helpful
Useless/still gotta lift seat corncob
You do not have to lift seat to refuel so I’m not sure what you’re referring to.
Purfect from day 1.
the wire plug by the battery he talks of is for the head lamps on some of the models, it's a good solid point for key on power,
for the seat stop cable use Cc model ZTX5-54 KW FAB (47RIAAA7010) parts needed 1- 753-06563 a shoulder bolt 1- 738-04395 a shoulder bolt 1- 746-06511 the cable total costs as of 09/18/23 $21.54 plus tax and shipping
I have a 2023 ZT1 54" and my seat doesn't have the brackets for the armrest on the frame. I checked before I ordered the armrest kit.
Did you remove seat cover ? Brackets behind cover and need to cut a hole for bolts
@brianb3382 I pulled the cover up to see if there was a bracket there and it was just a tube. I looked at the possibility of replacing the seat, but the cost is not worth it to me.
Brian you should build a fuel guage kit.. I would interested in buy one for sure.. Came out great.. I would pay for this kit.. Thanks for video.
I also used the factory holes for the seat cable. Got 4 black cables for 10 bucks on Amazon. For the life of me i can't understand why CC doesnt add one at the factory would only cost them a buck or two! Nice mods I'll look into a fuel guage. I added an hour meeter and bunge cord to hold the deflector up for parking it in the garage.
👍
they also discontinued the hour charge meter and deck wash fiting, CC/mtrd/black and decker has cut every where they can. arm rests thanks to my being a retired auto mechanic i ran a tap into the weld nut first, . seat stop cable made my own from hardware store parts for $4.00 the gas guage i found a reinforcement ring in summit racing made by tanks it's thicker taped 10/32 ,
Great job 👍 I also found a reinforcement ring from KUSS.inc it worked well
Do you happen to remember the model or link to the gas guage you found on ebay? Overfilling has been a PITA! :-)
I’m sorry I don’t have the model numbers but manufactured by Moeller, the main thing is make sure the ohm’s match the sending unit to the gauge when you make your choice
@@brianb3382 Thanks very much! I'll try to find a set that has a meter! Thanks again forca great video! (I wish my T2 looked that clean:)
What no part numbers of what you used??? Ok bye 😘
Can you send me the part number for the seat suspension kit please? You get it off Amazon?
Got it from Amazon-Rotary 12530 suspension platform
@@brianb3382 thank you very much! Is it really worth it?
@@Thetankguy308 improves ride but it depends how rough your mowing area is,and how well you can handle that. Only you can determine it’s worth
Nice work! I have a 2023 ZT1 and so they have made some changes, but none to fix the issues you noted, so I also did the armrests, seat suspension, fuel sender and hour meter. In terms of your issue on the fuel sender, KUS makes a 'backer plate' that has pre-threaded holes and screws to secure the sender unit. it is a ring with a gap that allows you to work it into the tank (use wire through the holes to suspend it in place while you bolt it in) It is only $6.00 from KUS - if you search, the part number is FLS-U.
Ok thanks I’ll try it
i got a 5 screw ring made by tanks from summit racing, same shape but thicker, taped 10/32 yes it costs more 16 dollars but at the time wasn't on back order like from kus
What fuel sending unit are you guys using? Are you using a probe or a float system? The ones I found are mostly probs and the shortages ones I found is 4" , and it requires 1"clearance from the bottom of the tank.
I used the 4" one, and while it is not perfect (never really shows totally full) it does let me know when I am running low and need to top it off. For me, I had the sender and gauge laying around form a different project that I never used, so it did not matter to me whether it was exact. Also, did need to use a sealant in addition to the gasket - got some leaking but the sealant solved that. @@Leo-pd5su
I got a 54", I did mostly all of the same mods. Currently I"m just using a Gas Gauge Filler Cap, not too accurate, it will let you know when you have burnt the first 1/2 of tank. Do you have any part #s for the sending unit and gauge?
Unfortunately I don’t have those numbers anymore I installed over a year ago , it’s a Moeller marine sending unit I got on eBay
Which Gas Gauge Filler Cap did you use? I've been toying with the same idea.
Rubber bushings under the front of the seat ,great idea, I guess there's only so many springs you can add .
Rubber bushings are for extra clearance so the seat platform can move freely
Finally got the correct cable. The dealer had correct part number but was on wrong cable. I finally got the correct one on today and love it. I hated that seat had to tilted all the way to the front on mower. Thanks so much!
i have a ZT2 60" unit has anyone found thicker blades that will last longer? i live in Florida and the Florida sand tears up the Cub blades so fast
The cable doesn't come with the bolts. Can you tell me what bolts you used please?
bolt 753-06563 bolt 753-05499A nut x 2, 912-3027
What's the part number for the seat base cable? I picked up one at the place that i bought mower...it doesn't fit my ZT1 54....
Hello Wanda, seat base cable 746-06231
@@brianb3382 hmmmm, that's what i have but won't work on my mower unless They put wrong part number tag on the cable...it's way too long and has the little bars with cotter pin on the ends also...
It sounds like you have a deck lift cable, not sure how I can help , or try to fit on a dealership floor model with the parts guy
@@brianb3382 thank you!
Where did you get the gauge assembly? Do you think one could make a second metal ring with threaded holes to put on the inside of the gas tank then put the sending unit on the outside like normal, sandwiching the rim of the hole in the plastic between them?
Got mine on eBay,you can get any brand just make sure the ohm’s match sender with gauge. I’ve thought about doing what you said , just never got around to it, if you make a ring let me know how it turns out. Good luck 👍
Just bought a 2022 ZT2 50.....It DOES have the seat retention cable on mine.
Ok good deal, congratulations on your new machine.
Our 2022 doesn’t. I wonder what determined if they added one or not?
Where did you get the gas gage?
Got on eBay, made by moeller just make sure the ohm’s on sender matches gauge and your good to go
Awesome. Hoping to do the same soon to my zts1.
I like allot of these , would love to know where you got a couple of things.or how you did
Is it normal for there to be black smoke on startup when the choke is applied? Runs like a champ with no smoke when once I take it out of choke position.
I discussed this issue with my local dealer they say smoke on startup is normal with Kawasaki engines, I get a puff of smoke also.
@@brianb3382 ok! I just got the 42” zt1 with the 7000 Kohler. Only has about 2 hrs on it and when it mowed today I noticed with the choke on it was spitting and sputtering with lots of black smoke. Put once I dropped it into the throttle position, it runs smooth and clean.
if you use lightweight oil in the kawi's, i've heard that they will use a bit more oil than if you use a heavier oil. i am in FL, so i use 20w-50. no / very little smoking on startup and no oil usage.
I got the Ultima ZT2 54 so far it’s been flawless no issues at all no deck vibration it’s a 2020 model got 100 hours on it hope it stays that way ✅🎯🤙🏽
2020 zt1-50 kw 100 hours of trouble free operation,

Can you send me info on your guage and sending unit have same mower but having issues thanks and good job on installation too 👍thanks
Hello Randy, I purchased a marine gauge and sending unit made by moeller on eBay , just make sure the ohm’s match each other and the sending unit can be adjusted to 4”
