Are you sure those aren't the fairy voice effects? If so, they're normal. However, IIRC you can turn them off in the options screen.

@@derekpascarella ill try turning them off but it sounds like the back and forth banter of the first cutscene. Will update, also upon finishing the first boss the game black screened then booted to the dc bios menu

@@Yojimbo239 Are you using a GDI or CDI? Did you patch it yourself? This game has been widely played, and nobody has reported anything like that. I honestly have no idea what could be causing the issue. That said, get in touch with me using the "Contact" page on my website, DreamcastForever.com, and I'll make sure that you at least have a proper disc image.

There is no setting. You must be on the latest version of both openMenu and VM2 firmware for auto-switching to work.

Ignore my comment. Turns out I wasn't using the latest openmenu. After using your links correctly it is now working as expected. Very cool indeed

If you're using the latest version of openMenu, just press B once you have the disc image selected. A prompt will appear letting you load that game with CodeBreaker.

Are you using VM2? It might be limited only when VM2 is present.

i had this issue but I used another SD card to push it in and it stayed, the well in the VM2 seems a little too deep for the fingers, if you have the SD card adapter thy using the beveled corner to push it in, I'm having a lot of kinks mi trying to work out with the VM2 myself like for some reason I can't get the games to recognize it so I'm here trying to see if I need to do something either the firmware because I want to be able to have my chao and save Shenmue, jet set, evil dead, and ill bleed without switching between physical VMUS every time

ABXY+Start is the only way. Sitting through the boot sequence again isn't really that bad, is it?

DreamConn does not support automatic virtual VMU switching with openMenu+VM2. This is because the DreamConn receiver reports to the console that a standard VMU is present. DreamConn was never created with VM2 in mind. You can contact Chris directly on DreamMods.net for more information.

Dump what? The VCD player software is readily available, but as I said, it has DRM. The receiver dongle must be present for it to work. I have not successfully reverse-engineered and removed it (which would also require mapping playback controls to button presses on standard controller).

Not sure that'll ever happen. TerraOnion is not doing much in the way of active development anymore. MODE hasn't seen a FW update since 2021. Fingers crossed, though!

@@derekpascarella It worked! Great guide! I had to buy a new computer with Windows 11. On the previous one (with Windows 7), .NET Desktop Runtime 5 was no longer supported. I was about to give up and stick with the regular gdMenu, but platform games-lovers never give up! Thanks a lot!

No, openMenu is the only ODE menu software that currently makes the necessary VM2 API calls to transmit game ID and create/load virtual VMUs. This will be explained in an upcoming article on RetroRGB, so please look out for it.
