I too have discovered her really late in life. I am 80. She and I were both born in San Francisco around the same time. I have lived for years in the Northeast but in my heart I am still a Californian and this song brings back wonderful memories of a California childhood. I only discovered her because of my love for the song Across The Great Divide. I had listened a lot to the great cover of that song by the late Nancy Griffiths and I always wondered who had actually written it which led me to Kate. Glad I made the journey. It's never too late to discover talent, Pity her work was overshadowed by so many other artists. People outside of Northern California hardly knew she existed and it seems she was okay with that.
Kate was all heart & soul baring - lucky to see her a # of times bc she played with another favorite group - Cache Valley Drifters. As back then, her voice & songs still pings me hard in the heart ! Love to All
When I was young my mama told me She said child take your time Don't fall in love too quickly Before you know your mind She held me 'round the shoulders In a voice so soft and kind She said love can make you happy Love can rob you blind Here in California, fruit hangs heavy on the vines And there's no gold, I thought I'd warn you And the hills turn brown in the summertime Well I will learn to love you But I can't say when This morning we were strangers And tonight we're only friends But I'll take my time to know you I'll take my time to see There's nothing that I won't show you If you take your time with me Here in California, fruit hangs heavy on the vines And there's no gold, I thought I'd warn you And the hills turn brown in the summertime It's an old familiar story An old familiar rhyme To everything, there is a season To every purpose, there's a time A time to love and come together A time when love longs for an end A time for questions we can't answer But we ask them just the same Here in California, fruit hangs heavy on the vines And there's no gold, I thought I'd warn you And the hills turn brown in the summertime There's no gold, I thought I'd warn you And the hills turn brown in the summertime
When I see Kate, she reminds me of a dear friend who also passed at about the same age as Kate was. And she could have been Kate's twin. They look that much alike. I miss her a lot still. It makes me tear up whenever I think of her. Elizabeth, I miss you so much. I will never forget you.
Emperor her music is so powerful and touches our hearts MY HEART SOARS WHEN I LISTEN AND EVEN SEEING HER FACE IS SO BEAUTIFUL like you 80 and just recently discovered her
I have no idea why I had never heard of Kate Wolf before in my like, but I surely like her genuine voice of Americana. So sad to see she passed long before.
Kate Wolf, California's answer to John Denver and his rocky mountains. He'd rather sing about West virginia than the most beautiful state in the union. All he had to do was look west.
Ouais c'est magnifique cette femme j'ai jamais entendu cette femme elle je veux pas écouter ça fait pleurer non j'ai eu plaisir d'écouter cette musique
I’m 62 years old and just discover this song maybe a day or two ago. I first heard a cover as done by AJ Lee. I thought it was beautiful. Now I came across the original by Kate Wolf. This is just simply a beautiful song and it’s just so sad that for whatever reason I never heard it before.
Kate's music broke the walls around mylifelong bachelor and left him gasping with a heart opened to love. THANK YOU KATE. MAY YOU LIVE ON IN HEARTS AND LIVES RICHENED BY THE LOVE YOU SREAD.
They left us long ago. Their wonderful voices. Thanks to digital memories when we still wait for their time to come. But maybe..., someday their souls again shall be?
She sings with a calmness and slow non nervous style feeling that too is and art in itself few singers master. Well done on these things. I only wish she would have sang more religious hymn style folk mix what I call folkgospel.
Contrary to the lyrics that appear in one of the comments (and elsewhere), Kate sings "Now I may learn to love you," not "I will learn to love you." That's very different!
Leider.
Kate Wolf hat eine wunderschöne Stimme. Sie ist jung gestorben, wie meine Schwester Sonja mit 44.
Beautiful song and video... Thank you.
I discovered her around 2012. Such lovely songs
A comment below talks about living on the west coast and looking across the Atlantic. Huh?
That's a guy from Ireland

That is all gone.

Here on the West Coast looking across the Atlantic into the rain glistening on the cattle and donkeys , California seems as much a dream as this song.

Kates voice is comforting like a warm blanket in winter.
I've needed a good cry for a few weeks, and I remembered this song, which helped me have it.
I just discovered her a year ago. I’m 67 and I can’t believe I never heard her.
O love this song but the signature line “no gold” is just not true. Lots of gold all to have to do is go get it
Thanks Kate Wolf....love you.
I love this song by Kate Wolf and I also love the red-tailed hawk
Stand in front of a mirror and sing it to who ever your love is now.
I ran across this Kate Wolf song:Here in California. Dovy I would love to hear you sing this song. Think it could been written for you to cover.
California's answer to John Denver
Wonderful...this man carries music in his soul...rest in enternal peace Kate Wolf ❤😢🙏
A duet with joan baez sure would a been something amazing 🌷

Early death in a creative life does not make music or art sweeter...nostalgia, looking back does...had she grown old, clarity bourne by time.
Immediately brings tears to my eyes
I love this Lovesong💕🐢🌹🔥😎🎸🎶

I was busy running and surviving for the most of my young adulthood. I recently found Kate - I am an instant Kate Wolf fan. What lovely music.

ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE if it will let you rename it after you uploaded it
