OP should also make sure his "son" is in therapy as well - there is a genetic component to bipolar disorder, and the kid would do well to be examined and monitored, so he can deal with potential symptoms in the future.

If she would have come home the next day and said, “Honey, I totally screwed up.” He may have forgiven her. But to hide it and then brag about it in her girls group went waaaay over the line. Even her future father in law left respecting his decision. Kudos to him for sticking up for himself.

IF she had confessed immediately - expressed remorse and begged forgiveness - you might have been able to reconcile. Studies show that people who confess immediately to infidelity are actually LESS likely to cheat in the future. It's the ones who are only "remorseful" after they get caught who are more likely to cheat again - because it's not the cheating that they are remorseful about, it's the getting caught.

The moral of this story?... of ALL of these stories?... stay single guys. Focus on yourself... your career... hobbies... friends... have fun... entertain the ladies... but stay single if you're the type that can. Because the truth of the matter is that EVERY woman is capable of this given the right circumstances... (I know... i know men aren't angels either but we're not covering that here) maybe not right away.... maybe not one or two years into the marriage... but eventually they will be faced with the option. How sure are you that YOURS will be one of the few that can avoid the temptation when faced with it? I've experienced it, and have known many others over the years that went through this again and again... at some point they get bored, or restless. The attention and validation YOU provide gets old and ineffective and they begin to hate the routine that inevitably happens in every long term relationship... but the A&V they get from that "new hire" at work, or their boss, or that guy at the gym? Well... THAT A&V gives them the "tingles" again... makes them feel young again, "seen" again... and they can't ignore it. It infects everything they do, and they can't see anything else. Oh, they never mean to "hurt" you, never mean for it to "go that far", after all it started so innocently LoL, just a coffee, or lunch, etc.... but when they get caught, and they ALWAYS get caught, they aren't really sorry for what they did because let's be honest, they all feel they deserved to be "happy"... what they are truly and only sorry about, is having been caught, because when what they've done sees the light of day and they lose everything, the excitement of the affair, the high of the danger and sneaking around loses its allure and leaves them empty.... as empty as the betrayal leaves you. Just sayin.

No "deafening silence" or "palpable tension" or "storm brewing inside", that's a welcome relief not to read those cliches.
