Hey there Rick. I'm not sure what sparked this video. I know several vegans, and I know even more people that, like myself, are sympathetic to part of the cause. What I have had every person agree on, is that 'factory farming' is a major problem that we have to end. Some vegans are extreme, and they wouldn't agree with this, but I believe the majority that I've talked to are happy if a meat eater is getting their meat from hunting, or from farms that are not super industrial; if they aren't willing to become a vegan altogether. Then, you touched on this, but didn't go into much depth at all; the energy we get from eating plants is a lot more efficient than we do from eating meat. I don't think it's a problem at all in our culture that we eat meat, I think we just eat a little too much than what is sustainable in the long term.

My daughters’ future and the fate of our world relies on your searching your soul and rediscovering your integrity. I see the current version of the Republican Party betray everything it ever stood for in its blind complicity with Mr. Trump’s hate, selfish arrogance, and frantic greed. Separating innocent, young children from parents, jailing them in camps in order to deter future illegal immigrants from entering this country means that we are holding these children hostage while destroying their lives for political power. This is still happening in your and my name as I am writing these words and as you are reading them. There is an abundance of evidence that being separated from those you depend on for your sense of safety at such an early age has brutal, destructive, life-long effects. This is NOT bleeding-heart-liberal talk but scientific fact (many of the studies on the lasting, heartbreaking damage institutionalized children experience were done on orphans in Romania after the fall of the iron curtain). Trump’s past cavalier threats to destroy cultural heritage sites in Iran threatened not just Iran but any civilized person both here in the U.S. and abroad. A long time ago, the Middle East was the cradle of our civilization. Its cultural treasures teach us and our children about our shared history. This heritage, those treasures do NOT belong to any one single country, regardless of what territory they may lie in at the time. They belong to all of us, to our children, and to their children, and they thus deserve our protection. The same is true for ALL of our Constitutional rights, liberties, and protections (not just the right to a “well-regulated militia”!!!). Regardless of how much of a lowlife Mr. Soleimani may have been, ordering a cold blooded assassination in another, sovereign country (and to claim “imminent danger” not to be necessary) makes us just as morally reprehensible as the persons who threaten us and our way of life. Such behavior on our part destroys any moral high ground we may once have had, strengthens the arguments of U.S.-hating “hard liners” in Arab countries, and plays right into the hands of individuals trying to recruit for terrorist groups. Combining such clumsy foreign policy approaches with a crippled State Department and an expressively stated contempt for international diplomacy and non-military solutions is bound to hurt us. Mr. Trump doesn’t know any better. He is a spoiled, rich huckster, who cheated his way through school and life, and he is lacking both knowledge of our Constitution and the ability to tell right from wrong. Do you have the same excuse? Our founding fathers imagined Congress to protect us from what we are experiencing now: an unhinged megalomaniac’s abusing the powers of the presidency. If you look the other way and hope for the best, you are failing those founding fathers and the trust they put into you. Future generations (assuming there will be such a thing, given that Trump’s arrogant insensitivity and ignorant posturing may very well push us into a global nuclear war and--worst case--“scorched earth” scenario) will judge you. What do you want to be your legacy, both as a politician and as a human being? Regardless of how much you may care about Republican “core issues” such as deregulation, lower taxation, a lock of the Christian Right on our Supreme Court and its interpretation of our Constitution, and/or the hopes and expectations of your constituents and campaign donors; regardless of how much pressure you are under from people who want you to “play ball”; I trust that you have both the capacity and the obligation to NOT SELL YOUR INTEGRITY AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. You are better than that. If you believe in God, then, please, I urge you, take the time to seek a moment of quietude to pray and ask Him what you can do to protect our shared humanity from the threats we are facing right now and from the violent hate, fear, and ignorance currently spread in our names. Please, I beg you, help not just this country by finding a way to resist and stop this madness. Jesus teaches us to base our attitudes and actions on RADICAL LOVE for God and for those who need our support and protection. That is what He taught and how He lived.
