Fiery Stride - Original ragtime/stride composition
It's been a while since last ragtime (or stride idk) piece I made. (What? 8 months? Naaah I think you got that wrong).
I don't know why my ragtime pieces got so much attention, it's unbelievable.
I hope you'll appreciate this new piece. It's quite similar to my previous ones but it was fun to do anyway.

The Last Holdout - Original Composition
มุมมอง 1.2Kหลายเดือนก่อน
LETSGOO HAPPY NEW YEAR! what better way to start the year than with some absolutely festive, upbeat music? no, that's a lie, here's some dramatic and epic music for you... I tried to make something more "cinematic" with lots of epic and percussions moments. I don't know if it works. I tried to make more key changes for the cinematic vibe too. There are many inspirations from videogames, movies ...

It's basically (almost) the same looped chord progression but I like it. I used the electric bass again but I know barely nothing about that instrument so let me know if there's any weird writing. Oh and playing this piano pattern with a metronome is a mess trust me. Please enjoy this little piece!

It's almost Christmas, so I tried to make a music in the same vibe as all the other Christmas songs you can already hear everywhere, you're welcome. It's a very simple composition but I wanted to do something special for Christmas. I hope you like it! (Even if you don't celebrate christmas)

I had my 5 (jeez...) wisdom teeth extracted a fortnight ago, so I haven't touched Musescore since. But I made some piece (including this waltz) a few weeks ago, so it's time to post them here until I start composing again. I hope you like it! 3 weeks without new pieces, probably because I made A HUGE COMPOSI... nope sometimes I just don't know what to write lol sorry Yeah some stereotypical oriental music. I think the tempo would be less regular if real musicians played it, because when I play it on my (electric) piano it sounds better because I can make slight changes in tempo and dynamics. I hope you'll like this piece !
Silent Grief (original composition)
มุมมอง 1.2K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
This one is a bit different from what I usually do. I improvised the beginning on my piano and finished it on musescore. I tried to reproduce the tempo and dynamics of a real performance. Don't know if it worked. I don't even know if it's possible to play this piece as written... (oh and there are some weird notations, yes). I hope you'll like it!

I've just found out about harp pedals in musescore. It's so much easier to write glissandos for harp with these. In this one, I've tried using both major and minor thirds. I hope it sounds good. Anyway, I hope you like it!

I wanted to make something that sounded more sweet and a bit childlike. My last compositions were quite dramatic, so a little sweetness is welcome here. It was quite difficult to get the strings to sound the way I wanted, which is why there are sometimes odd notations. The inspiration here comes from lots of different games, zelda, mario, undertale etc... I hope you'll enjoy this little tune!

    Strong beats should be on strong beats of the measure to aid readability. I think everything should be moved forward an eighth note. (or back three eighth notes) Now I've worked out why everything seemed to be falling on weird half-beats, I can say that it's actually a bit to square for my liking, and I think some more syncopation would enhance the quirky, comedic character of the piece.

    Good work man! I’m curious about your composition process, do you write this directly into notation from your head or do you utilise playback?

    • @Marshoyen
      @Marshoyen 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you so much! I oftenly start with disorganised ideas on my piano (but sometimes I start directly in musesore). Actually, it happens that I have a melody line or a rythm in my head. (I kind of "hear" something that will sound fine to me). But the playback helps a lot to write. I often listen to certain parts over and over again to see if I could add or change certain elements. And above all to find out if it sounds good.

    This is actually really good, what do you use for writing the scores? I use Musescore 4 but I don t have the same control that you have, I would like to learn from you. Also I noticed you used choir voices, for me they are really clunky and bugged, they have different and weird attack times... I don't know if it's just me (I use musesounds) I'm also curious if you sketch on piano first on you just go on the score and write stuff, I find my harmonic content lacking when I go directly into the score part

    • @Marshoyen
      @Marshoyen 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you very much! I do use Musescore 4 with musesounds. I see what you mean by "clunky and bugged". This sometimes happens with updates, try updating musesounds and musescore, it may help. Also avoid writing more than one note at a time in a bar. It will sound better with only one line to play (for example, at measure 53, I wrote more than one line in "tenors" bars, but I put it as "2nd voice" so the soundfront plays them as separate voices). It depends on how I start a piece. Most of the time I look for some ideas on my piano (chords, melody, rhythm) and then I write on Musescore and it's very common to make some changes to what I had in mind at the beginning. But sometimes I start directly in Musescore (I think I did that for some parts of this piece). In that case I often use the piano in Musescore to visualise what I am writing. I often start a piece with the strings or the instruments that will bring the main idea. I usually put the percussions at the end. But I often come back to certain parts and add or change some instruments. Sorry if the wording is a bit clumsy, but explaining this in another language is a bit complicated 😅

      Thanks you!! In movies they always use big percussion for epic music, so I used taikos, bass drums etc. to make something similar. However, I don't really like this new trend of putting the SAME heavy percussion in all film trailers to make them look ‘epic’ without really adding anything else. (Recent trailers I can think of: mario movie, minecraft movie, mutant mayhem, sonic movies and so on. That doesn't necessarily mean the films are bad tho, some are even very good).

    I've just discovered your channel and have been binge-listening for the past 90 minutes. You're only 20, self-taught and you're writing stuff like this? WOW! What a talent!! You say your compositions may sound amateurish? IMO, many of your compositions do have much more to offer if the music can be developed further. But hey, even as they are, they already sound very nice! I love your orchestration. Sure, there may be nitty-gritty details about how to write for a real-life orchestra. But you clearly have a natural talent for blending different sounds together into something lovely. I'm in awe of the lush soundscapes you create! How I wish I could write music like you! I'm definitely going to be trying to learn from your music and orchestration. Ending with a shameless plug: My only orchestral piece to date (Alaska Wilderness Theme) is written in a somewhat similar style as some of your music, so maybe you'll enjoy it and find further inspiration. @BarnieSnyman หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheBalbrigganTelescope Thank you for the kind words! :) But yes, it ends rather quickly as you note. It ends before the music gets a chance to become truly grand and epic. But that's due to my lack of compositional know-how. I wanted it to be longer, and I do have several ideas on how to expand the piece, but couldn't yet come up with something that I'm satisfied with. The plan is to eventually expand this piece so it doesn't end so abrubptly.

    Majoras Mask intro cutscene music was a large inspiration?

      Actually to be honest, I started this piece thinking ‘oh let's do something like the intro of Majora's mask so I can understand how the composer did it’. I hadn't planned to post it on my channel (I was just exercising) but I kept composing and in the end it was a 6-minute piece so I thought it was a bit frustrating not to publish it for that reason.

    This whole thing sounds crazy amazing! At this point you should compose a concerto! If you want ofc.

      Thank you very much! I don't know how concertos "work" to be honest so maybe one day, or maybe not

      So, basically a concerto has a solo player (e.g. violinist, flutist, pianist, cellist, sometimes more than one soloist) and the entire orchestra plays for the soloist. Most of the time, the soloist will play something really difficult. There are many concertos but sorry I have no idea how to compose one. (sorry for bad grammar)

      @@aPersonWhoHasViolins Thanks for the explanation! To write really difficult solos, I'd have to be a really good soloist myself, which isn't, haha.

    3:50 I thought it was the beginning of the medallion calls from Pirates of Caribbean, it is exactly the same thing with violon alto and cello

      I’ve spent dozens of hours over the past two months working on this music to create an arrangement for an orchestra and perform it with my friends on my youtube channel, so it felt really funny when I heard that🤣🤣.

      Thanks! Yeah I generally make short music but I recently composed something about 5-6 mins long. It happens sometimes and oftenly not... it's also because I don't know how to extend the theme

      Actually the shaker is from the drum kit (don't ask me how I ended using the drum kit because idk), but both are from Musesound

      Thanks a lot! I had the sound in mind and looked for an instrument with that sound, but there are probably better instruments to use to make these sounds.
