    For me the show died when Arthur took peters powers.. First and second season were both good, theres 1 downside to season 2, being the reset the characters seem to have. Season 4 had so much potential with the characters introduced but season 3 just didnt meet the prerequisite events to set up properly for season 4.

    lost is by far my far my favourite show. Interestingly, a lot of people arent aware of the 11 minute "ending" which was only included in the box set release. whenever i hear someone is watching it for the first time i make sure to send them the youtube link because it answers so many questions. A lot of people complain about the ending but i think it's great because you can put your own spin and biases and beliefs into it.

    I mostly agree with your rankings, with two exceptions. I don't dislike season 6 as much as most people, so I put it above season 8, so season 8 is my second least favorite, just above the spinoff. The other exception, is that I move Season 1 to the number 1 spot, and everything else just shifts down one. The reason I ranked it higher, is because that season had such a raw and cinematic feel to it. This is no surprise, since Stephen Hopkins directed many of the episodes (including the first one) and he is a movie director mainly. Despite my feelings about how annoying Kim is, her subplot did seem relevant (well, except when she goes off to find that kid that helped her during the kidnapping). And it had one of the best Jack Bauer kill scenes, when Jack thinks Kim is dead and he goes after Victor Drazen, two-fisting his guns and just running him down and emptying the magazines. It was epic. Other than those two differences, I mostly agree with your ranking.

    Easily my least favorite 24 season. In fact, I got so bored with it, I never watched past episode 4, so I haven't even seen the ending. I remember almost nothing about what I did see. I guess at some point, just for the sense of completeness, I need to watch it through just so I know what happened. But I didn't care about really any of the new characters, and it just didn't seem like the same show. I don't even own the DVD of this season, like I do all the others.

  • @chuckpoore

    Disney--please God no...just no. As much as I would love a revival with Jack's closing story, I had not thought about the fact that Disney would be in control of it. Maybe we fans should just let it go, because they would botch it up so badly. Anyway, I really love this season, I think the 12 episode format, while sort of breaking the whole gimmick of the show, actually works to its advantage, because there are no stupid subplots that get in the way. It really feels lean and mean. It's also eerie how (like in previous seasons) the show seems to predict something that happens in real life, namely the prospect and problems around a President who is suffering cognitive decline. That seemed far fetched at the time, but now...not so much.

  • @chuckpoore

    There were some good things in the season, like the NY setting, and the completely different angle of the threat being mainly against a visiting dignitary. But overall, I agree that most of the new CTU characters were uninteresting, and I didn't like the way they looked down on Chloe. I have always considered this my least favorite season other than the later spinoff. I hardly ever re-watch this one.

  • @chuckpoore

    This one has always been one of my favorites. I love the change to DC, and working through the FBI. I love the Renee Walker character as well as President Taylor. It's also interesting, that later on there were two big Hollywood films depicting the takeover of the White House, but 24 did it first, and in my opinion, did it better. That part of the season was my favorite part. You mentioned that the show became more liberal at this time. But I would look at this a different way. I think it wasn't so much as it being politically liberal, as much as presaging the real-life realignment that is still happening between the major parties, where on many big issues (like foreign wars/entanglement, free trade, free speech and civil liberties) the parties have kind of switched as to which side they're on. I think 24 predicted that with President Taylor, being a Republican, but standing up for many things that years ago would be considered Democratic issues (except the foreign war issue, Taylor was still very Bush-Cheney-Neo-Con on this).

  • @chuckpoore

    I don't know, I guess I had become such a fan of the show by this time I was more forgiving. I have never felt the hate for this season that most other people do. I do recognize the re-used plot points, but to me that's sort of the 24 formula (mole in CTU, conspiracy in government, etc.) I agree that Wayne Palmer was not a very good president, but in many ways that's true to life. We've had some very incompetent presidents, and looking back, sometimes what happens in 24 is eerily close to some things that later happened in the real world. Anyway, I don't think this was 24's best season, but neither it's worst. It's just kind of in the middle.

    The show definitely hit its peak during this season. The first time I watched it, when it actually broadcast, I was afraid that the subplot with the First Lady was going to be one of those annoying distractions that I hated. But boy was I wrong. Her subplot was central to the overall story, and Jean Smart's performance was Emmy-worthy, she really showed her acting chops. She was one of my favorite characters in this season, which is saying a lot. If I had one complaint, it would be that the plot point of the hostage crisis in the airport in the first act of the season, as cover for the terrorists getting their hands on the nerve gas, seemed a bit of a stretch. In real life, I can't help but think there was a more efficient way for them to get the nerve gas, than creating a hostage crisis where the whole world is looking at them. It's well done, and they try to weave it in to the conspiracy, but when you give it too much thought, it really doesn't work. Love this season though.

  • @chuckpoore

    I definitely agree that all the new characters changed the flavor of the show, but in a good way. I loved the additions of Bill Buchanan, Curtis Manning, Charles Logan and James Heller. I also believed the romance between Jack and Audrey. Despite how much the show stated that Jack loved his first wife, Terri, I never really saw any chemistry between the actors. But I do see real chemistry with Audrey. I just liked her better than Terri. My only criticism of this season, is the stupid subplot with the CTU director's daughter (can't remember her name). That distraction of constantly having the clinic call her and say "you daughter's acting up again," just got real old real quick. Like I did with Kim's scenes in Season 2, I just skip those scenes, and it's much better for it.

  • @chuckpoore

    I agree that Kim's scenes were not as bad or distracting here as in Season 2, because she actually has something to do relevant to the plot. But still, her personality is so freaking annoying, she's so stubborn and insufferable. I'm so glad that in later seasons, they just let her show up as a guest for a few episodes and then she's gone. Also, this season shows why you never let a married couple, or even people in a serious relationship, work in the same office, much less when one is the boss and one is second in command. This would never be allowed in real life, even in the corporate world, much less in a military-style government agency. That being said, I really do love this season overall.

  • @chuckpoore

    Your comments about the Kim Bauer "storyline" (if you can call it that), are spot on. That part is really the low point of the whole series. I read somewhere that the producers really liked the actress, Elisha Cuthbert, and were just trying to find a way to keep her in the show. But even Elisha admits it didn't work, as you said yourself, other than Jack constantly wondering where she was, her "perils of Kim" plotline had nothing to do with the main storyline of the show. That being said, this season is really my favorite season in every other way. When I watch the DVD's, I just skip all the Kim Bauer scenes, and then it's really more like "19" instead of "24", but that really makes it better. If someone could do a super-edit and edit out all the Kim Bauer scenes, it would make a super tight thriller.

    Great review. I think its the worst season of x-files. Horrible scripts for almost all episodes. The dialogue is way below average. Its almost comedic whilst trying to be super serious. Too much religious talk on top of all that. This was the first season i stopped watching some of the episodes. Even without Mulder the cast would have been able to provide a good show. But the script and dialogue writers killed it. Then there is too much religious talk. Skinner which i love has some of the stupiest lines in the whole series. His character is completely wasted. In all the other seasons i longed for the mythology episodes, in this season it became a joke. Nah.. anyways i rewatched it 3 times over the last 23 years and i stop trying to love this season. I really tried it but its horrible.

    I saw the first Star Wars in the theater in 1977, so my take will vary from a fair portion of the fan base due to being a generation older. Way back in 1980, when Luke Confronts Obi Wan's force ghost about his father, Obi Wan resorts to what he said is true "from a certain point of view"and I knew that the Jedi story would be far from black and white back then. Even Lucas retconed himself but much of the original footage has been taken from history. Even he didn't have a clear vision of where he was going or doing back then and often winged it. So I really don't see how Disney politicized the show as claimed. The original series had a lot of Fascist/Communist themes in regards to the Empire. I lived the Cold War and grew up with it. See the originals before the prequel series came out and you'll see what I mean. The Acolyte really should have been 12 episodes and of at least 50 minutes each to further develop the story and close holes. Episodes three and four could have been combined, showing two different views of events. At least the finale was really cool. Star Wars has never had much of a script to begin with. It was a B-rate story dressed up with unseen and new types of special effects to give it that WOW factor. Further on in the series depends more upon special effects to carry it. As to plot lines, its often someone behaving like a petulant child or teenager with a temper tantrum with the characters inflicted with airheadedness with each movie. This really takes off with the prequel series. All in all, I give the Acolyte a 7 out of 10. The acting in much of Obi-Wan was awful and then some, which made it worse in my opinion. The thing that bugs me the most is that the Makeup department makes Lee Jung-Jae look like a driver's license picture from the beginning. If it had started with him looking as he really is and then went into being scraggly at the end of the series, it would have had far more impact. I see that often Star Wars under whatever umbrella often has Asian men looking like driver's license pictures.

      @@nukritik2933 I would have liked to see more character development. The ending didn't surprise me at all. Yoda knew all along and was arrogant in thinking that the order would never fall or he was a total airhead unable to connect things together. The prequel trilogy bugs me because where things are headed is so obvious to everyone but the Jedi. When the starlight station fell, and the Jedi closed up all their temples is when they created their downfall. They switched from an order based on being for the people to keeping their own power and fearing to lose it. All of this is cannon. It's been interesting to see how Star Wars evolved for nearly 50 years.

    Okay I loved season 8, it was like a lovely trip back to Lois and Clark the new adventures of Superman. Loved it and hated it but still I watch it for the comedies not the TH Lois who was so easily fooled by Lex Luthor. Man did I hate her! She could handle herself but when it came to Lex she was a pussy wuss. Loved seeing the interaction between Lois and Clark. And another thing that should’ve been quite obvious. Clark should’ve moved to Metropolis cause no one, not even Lois ever question how fast Clark was able to commute to and from SM to M to work at the Daily Planet, I wished I could’ve seen Clark getting raised for an article he wrote. I know he is trying to keep a very low profile on Clark Kent so no one suspect him to being the Blur (god I hated that title). I hated how Jimmy came close to finding out Clark’s secret only to be dodged (at round one) but gets to find out in the end (and then we learned he is fake Jimmy). Chloe was at her worst on this season, nuff said. I personally wished they didn’t bring in Doomsday or Zod. Unless they were making a series called Metropolis and Tom was willing to wear the suite, these master villains (Darksied included) should’ve been saved for a Superman series. Writers strike was over yet they made terrible choices for the characters. And they made this series too biblical and I do mean biblical. Tess was worst than Chloe who was a stalker and spies on Clark but Tess she’s like Alex Forester. Minus the boiling bunny. Well the show could’ve just replaced MR or just end the show when Clark goes north for his training. Tess is supposedly a gender swap Lex Luthor. She knows Clark’s secret but how? That was never clarified, explained not elaborated. But she is way more intrusive then Chloe was. I could’ve loved season eight without Jimmy and Chloe, the Doomsday beauty and the beast with Chloe and I know Tess is an original Superman comic book character but I wished the big twist of her story is that she is Queen Maxima come to earth to see if Clark Kent is worthy to be her king. Which he is but she also does it to save him from his impending death AND because she loves him. As for Doomsday I wrote a FF where Davis is actually Clark’s half brother. A Kryptonian woman who wanted Jor-El but he rejected her and in retaliation she used Red-K and Gem-K to get him to copulate with her and she created Doomsday. Kryptonians managed to incase him and send him to the Phantom Zone. Along with his mother. Yes once again another interruption of Clark moving on thanks to Lana. I was disappointed that there was no interactions between Lana and Lois. A silent way of Lana telling Lois Clark is all hers now. Example: remember when Lana left they farewell video? Lois comforted Clark and helped him get back on his feet and all? Well after that ridiculous reason to finally leave, why not have Lois find out Lana is leaving and she races over to stop her from leaving. Now she doesn’t know the real reason for Lana’s leaving. She cries as she tells Lana how devastated Clark was the last time she left. Lana who was at first sad and fearful of leaving Clark suddenly smiles and tells Lois “Clark isn’t alone, he has you” and she leaves with a peaceful smile on her face. Why not? It should’ve happened to show how mature Lana truly is. P.S. my personal favorite episode of this season was Stiletto.

    I understand it was made during the writers strikes which begs the question “why didn’t they put Smallville and all other shows that were effected by the writers strike on hold?”. Had they done that, we would’ve had a better season seven. When it comes to Supergirl I am madly in love with the 1980 Supergirl movie. Yes! I love that movie so much, I watch it fantastically. Helen Slater was a magnificent Supergirl, it’s a terrible shame we didn’t get to see her with Christopher Reeves as Superman again in a movie. Oh she played Superman’s mother! Well why not? Anyways sorry, so THIS Supergirl, while I liked the cast I didn’t like her introduction and it seemed ridiculous that she could fly but not Clark. Once again they should’ve just stuck with the comic book source. From what I was told from another TH-camr Supergirl suffered from the worst case of PTSD and survival’s guilt ever. To learn that her family and home are all gone just devastated her. Which made her easily manipulated by Lex to become bad and go after Clark. As for Lana, well you already know how I feel about her. I really wished that Lana became all bad and Clark had to do the most painful thing he ever had to do. Either she was killed or maybe she wounded up in a coma which is a bitter ending for Clark because he’d believe she is in a dreaming reality where her parents are alive and he hoped he was not in it at all. OR when she loses her powers, Clark helps her to leave the country which he makes her promise not to return. Lana accepts her exile because she goes to foreign country to help where ever she can and anyway she can. Pence is the key for her to make her learn that true happiness is what you give to others not have them give back to you. That sad video goodbye episode really got to me but then again it was another infuriating tease the show dies in making me think AT LAST THE CLANA TRAIN HAS ENDED. Especially the way Lois comforts Clark, it’s the second time she shows to really care about Clark (second time was when Alicia dies and she prevented him from killing the guy that killed Alicia). Don’t ask me about Chloe and Fake Jimmy. It was disturbing how Lionel is forgiven and having thanks dinner with, Martha (he practically killed Jonathan), Chloe and Lois (tried to kill both of them) and Clark could welcome him after all he did in the past? And that Veritas cult club? Who came up with that shit? It was dumb! Nuff said. After the introduction of Patricia Swann, I thought she was perfect and hoped her mother was Bridgett Crosby. It was too bad she didn’t appear in earlier season as another of Clark’s short lived relationships. They would’ve made an interesting couple. The Gabriel Grant guy? Totally forgotten about him so moving along. BTW I really would’ve loved to see Justin with a Goat T.

      There was definitely too much going on this season, resulting in a lack of focus and direction until the last 8 episodes. The way they brought back Lana was silly and Supergirl was underutilized. And don't get me started on the Stride Gum Episode 🙈🙈🙈

    Ok I made some errors in my last comment but I meant what I said in them. This season was very very very soap opera ish, lord did I hate that. What they did to Lana with having her fall for Lex and seems like she was in love with him but still wounds up turning around and is still in love with Clark. It’s the same as when she was with Whitney, Adam and Jason, girl is more of a skank now. One that pins for Clark yet doesn’t have it in her to not lead other guys on. BTW it’s super breathing not sneezing and much as I love Superman’s ability to fly I love his super breathing. We don’t get to see it a lot after that episode.

    Are you kidding me?! Season five was the worst, it was practically the downfall of the series. Oh I wanted it to be canceled but it wasn’t and for maybe a self destructive reason I had to see it through. We had message boards then to vent out our frustration and complains but thanks to racists, male toxic trolls they were taken down. Firstly Clark was supposed to begin his training but ONCE again nosy-stalker Chloe interrupted. I also hated how the show made everything related Jor-El and all things Kryptonian bad. They never took a time to get Clark to know his own culture and people and definitely not his biological parents. It infuriated me. Like when Clark had until sundown to return to FOS and begin his training but he purposely chose to be late and what he get? Humanity? Yea for him but then he got shot and was given another chance, got his powers back (BTW note Lana never asked why and how Clark survived and why he looked like he’d been through Hell) then Clark proposed to Lana, she says yes then dies. Clark begs to change things after being told about the rules of balance then Jonathan dies which frankly that was going to happen anyways thanks to Lionel. So Clark was screwed several times. I read and heard the two creators of the show left at this point. And they wanted to end Smallville and start up a series called Metropolis where Clark moves to, gets a job and does small secret hero and given the name the Blur least until the final episode where he comes out as Superman. But that took for-God-Damn-ever! They then turned the show into a soap opera. And I’m sorry to mock because I was a Guiding Light fan from the late 90s to early 2000s. But the whole Clark-Lana-Lex drama was just as lame and boring as Chloe-Clark-Lana oh plus Jason then they throw in Pete for a while till they completely eliminate him 😡. The vampire episode was just as ridiculous as the witch fiascos. But yes seeing Carrie Fisher on this was awesome and for a moment I was tempted to see Perry White gender swapped. Rest In Peace Princess Leia. NOPE!!! I actually thought they should’ve casted Mark Hamill as Dr Emil Hamilton. MH has been a huge Superman fan for ages. Still hated Chloe and wished she never was created at this very point well I wanted her either to leave town or just be killed either way, Chloe was a racial and gender attack on Pete. Meaning they didn’t want a show where there was two guys and one girl, they preferred the one guy with two girls.

    You did a fantastic video. I started out enjoying the show when it seemed to sometimes pay tribute to the 1978 Superman movie especially when they had Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Terrence Stamp (mainly his voice) Marc McClure, Helen Slater, and Annette O'Toole all in it. I loved Lex Luthor and Lois Lane and sometimes I like Clark Kent but I think he would've been made better. Looking back and after researching the comic books Superboy (which is not what Smallville is based on), I wish they had just stuck to the comic books. Instead of having a guy named Whitney Ford who is Lana's boyfriend and the character Chloe Sullivan a character I call Clark's designated certified stalker. Lord Lana Lang! Apart from not being a fan at all of Kristin K. because I don't believe she can act to save her life, I have seen her in three other projects and her acting is terrible. But as for the character Lana well nuff is said about why she sucks, I'll tell you when she really earned my praises. When she gets Clark's powers and suddenly she has gone all bad, she even lashes out at Clark for hiding out on a farm. Yeah after that episode I started wondering why didn't they make her the bad guy disguised as the good small-town girl? What a better arch for her. Especially (and this statement no one seems to see or chooses to ignore, tell me what you think please) when in the beginning she wore a piece of the meteor that killed her parents as a good luck charm, I started thinking "That's disturbing, I beg the question again, who does that? Does Yoko Ono wear the bullet that killed John Lennon? Do the families of the victims of Columbine wear the bullets that killed loved ones? Does Chris Perez wear the bullet that killed his wife Selena?". I have so many favorite Lex Luthor starting with Gene Hackman, John Shea, Clancey Brown (voice of course and I am sure there are more and I'll hear them later) Micheal R. was a sensation, he made his Lex Luthor just perfect. Then I saw John Cryer and didn't recognize him till later and he paid an amazing tribute to Gene Hackman's Luthor. Love the Kents though Jonathan was really a judgemental guy when he chucked his hatred of Lionel on Lex, I mean he isn't Lionel but right away Jonathan is quick to judge. Having Annette play Martha was a great touch to the show just wished they didn't make the whole senator crap.

    Just finished this and I was WOWED! Seems like a perfect miniseries with a meaningful story of Dexter reuniting with his son with a ruthless villain so I thought the slow burn worked well. I also thought Harrison was perfectly cast with his emotions and their adaptations throughout the show making sense I genuinely don’t understand the hate for the ending although I wish there was a scene with Dexter and Batista with how close they were in the first few Dexter seasons. It made perfect sense as Harrison got closure without a motive to keep his dark passenger with Dexter always getting people killed like Logan. Him killing Logan just for a way to see his son showed the sociopath he really is and how he deserves the death penalty
