' ⚜👑‼G R E A T‼👑⚜ ' Just fantastic, wonderfull! 👍 👏 👏👏 thank you 🤩 for showing! 👏👏👏
Man, that thimg scares
I promise it’s not scary, I’ve been helping to run it since I was 9 and I love it
@teescottageguyproductions I know, but because of its size it leaves you looking like an ant next to it. PS: How many horsepower does it have?
@ when she was built she was rated to have 140hp
At first I was a little scared by the speed it reached, considering it's so small. But now that I see it, it's cool.
That's cool, where did you get it?
It’s not mine sorry, it’s a homemade model. Hornby are releasing one soon though
I know but I realized it later.
This is why I don’t buy new engines , it can’t even move itself! I have a SW1 From 1973, that can still pull its body and a decent load
Bro you a goat
Was the large drum used to reel cable in and out? Looks like one that was used in the copper mines of Michigan's Upper Peninsula to bring copper ore to the surface.
The drum had cables running off it which turned shafts which powered the cotton mill.
"The called me a ROCKET!"
Wonderful engines !!!
What is the rated horse power for this operation? I know the torque is outrageous on those big rotating devices.
The rated HP of this engine is 3,000HP
using that for stirling heat engines in conjunction with cogeneration for home backup power would be a good idea also.
Boston Wheels Pulleys Springs Mills Wheels Lead Tyres Ribs Spikes Elevators Pumps Buckets Nozzles Venturimeter Hydraulic pumps Pneumatic Kaplan turbines Hull Hinges Chains Valves
I'm pretty sure the one I had was the SP 3. ( late 60's) UK . So sad now I sold it for $ 5 Australia in about 1973. It was a stupid mistake.
Looks like a fun experience
It’s fantastic!
That duck pulled in there like, “bro move big boy coming through”
Oh yeah you can’t mess with the Liverpool duck!
Most importantly No fossil fuel is used. CO2 is produced but taken up again by the rapeseed plants. Full circle.
I bet Sam’s Trains was very disappointed that Mallard doesn’t have sprung buffers, IRL. Oh the cruel irony.
😝
👍👍👍👍
0:24 terrorists use it , that’s the simple answer to why it’s banned
Victorian engineering - BUILT TO LAST.
Absolutely!!
"World's largest"? What about the River Don Engine in Sheffield? That's certainly larger, is working and it's certainly a "mill engine" since it powered a steel rolling mill - do you mean cotton mill engine?
The river don engine is smaller in size but it’s more powerful, when they refer to the mill engine they mean a cotton mill engine yes.
The trencher field engine has to be very close Fun Fact that was the engine the Japanese Ananime people looked at for the epic Steamboy flick .
I didnt expect to hear Steam Engine Simulator being mentioned 😮
At first, I thought the tender wheels were spinning at a certain speed where each moved spoke matched up with the frame rate, causing to look as if they’re not moving. Sorry if I didn’t explain it clearly, but hopefully you can know what I mean.
Frank Dibnah would be proud.
Hopefully! By the way his name is Fed Dibnah not frank
@@teescottageguyproductions its Fred. we both got it wrong. 🤣
😂
Preserving the past for the Future, understanding the present by remembering the past. Hence the importance of history ( that always repeat itself )
Absolutely!
4:40 what do these do?
Great question!! That spinning device is called the governor. The governor is the speed control for the steam engine. As the steam engine runs it spins the governor by a series of belts or gears & shafts. As the engine builds up speed/revs the centrifugal force of the governor forces the balls to spread out on the governor. The balls then move a series of linkages which either alters the steam engine’s valve timing or steam flow to control the engine’s speed and stop it going too fast. If it goes too fast then it can act like an emergency stop and trip the engine which shuts off the steam and stops the engine. Hope this helps!!! Thanks, James 😀
That's where the phrase "Balls Out" comes from.
Another excellent video James. When are you going to get around and take the blacksmith course at Tee's Cottage?
Thank you!! I hope to do it next year, they’re really popular so are booked up
@@teescottageguyproductions I would think that a volunteer like you could get on the list quicker. Put your name on the list!
@rickburris6164 I’m sure I could sneak on to it!

I'm thinking of buying one.. I'd thought steam engines like this would be more expensive, but if you just get the steam engine instead of that lamp thing in the shop, you can knock off 90 dollars.
Wild thought from a way to ignorant on the subject person.... natural gas to make steam? Stationary engines would be better for it than mobile engines. Only going to pay attention to people who can gives some technical reasons for, or against, this idea.
Some locations do already use Gas Boilers to power their steam engines so it’s certainly a possibility!
Interesting steam engines. It must be a special experience to see so many engines at once.
Oh yeah it was brilliant!
the current available solid eco fuels are fantastic for stationary engines and pumps but like you said anything running under load like a steam lorry or locomotive wont fair off very well, hopefully something is developed at some point because coal is not viable anymore unfortunately
if you look at car from the 1960s to the present day there is little comparison, with a modern car, imagine if we had to continue to develop stem engines up to the present day, what would they be like today? we threw the baby out with the bath water,
We tried a couple tonne on our 2 Lancashire boilers at claymills victorian pumping Station and it worked alright but will never match coal as it burns at a lower temperature
Yes I remember I think I was there when you were doing the trial. Yeah coal is still better
You might not know that "Newcastle on Hunter" in Australia is the worlds biggest exporter of coal - Why not bring coals from Newcastle, it's probably dirt cheap!!
Sounds promising but big difference between a constant load running at 30psi and a varying load running at 250psi.
Absolutely! Plus these engines on the video running at 30psi have no load
Hopefully the new Eco fuel for steam engines will keep the engine running for another century😮
Rapeseed oil cake? Pretty cool.
Çhuck some plutonium in the fire grate and your good for a few million years 😂
The only hole that eco-coal belongs in is the one you find at the base of the rear side of politicians. Without coal, steam is gutted. At least 50% of the magic is the SMELL. With interest in heritage steam all over the world, surely, there is enough demand to justify still keeping a mine open in this country.
Que composición tiene el combustible y como se forma
It’s made out of rapeseed
People see some smoke from a chimney and immediately go into spasms over it! However, when they get on jet plane, no thought or criticism is headed in that direction. As others have pointed out, the amount (nowdays) of pollution that preserved steam puts into the air is only a poofteenth of the aviation industry!
Passenger aviation gets plenty of criticism. Both industries should try to reduce emissions wherever they reasonably can. When the fuels cheaper and the engines look to be running well it seems like a no brainer.
why don't they buy coal from the USA? We can get it easily enough here. Getting a bit pricey from some places though. Until last year we were getting coal for our locomotive from a place that got it as a byproduct of digging stone in Pennsylvania. Was like rocket fuel, high volatility, low ash, no clinker, great stuff. We got 22 tons delivered at a time.
It depends whether the coal is suitable for the boilers and the cost
In the UK even though demand for coal is dropping the wholesale price is increasing.
@@brucelamberton8819 I bought some "coal" 6 months ago in Home Bargains in England and it was expensive. I think 6 pounds a bag. I don't think you can burn regular coal anymore it has to be smokeless which this was. It was like big briquettes. It burned really well, lit easily and had a nice friable ash. I normally live in NJ and you can buy anthracite but not bituminous for home use. It has been that way for years. Anthracite is difficult to light. In Pennsylvania it is a whole different story.
@@paulnicholson1906 SOUNDS LIKE YOU GOT ANTHRACITE COAL, AS IT IS CALLED! KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS 👍👍
@@rossbryan6102 What we use is bituminous. Locomotives were designed to use a a specific type of coal. Most use bituminous. Bituminous lights off faster and is easier to respond to variations in steam demand. Anthracite was used on some eastern US railroads and used Wooten fireboxes to facilitate its use. Bituminous smokes more if you don't fire it correctly though. You have to fire light and often to quote LMS guidelines.
interesting a colliery engine runs on electric motors......
The two colliery engines shown (Bestwood & F Pit) run on motors because the boilers have been scrapped and they haven't got replacement ones.
Nice to see that this comes now to more places, have seen it on German locomotives, had a little less power but worked otherwise well an less cleanup after running. In the future it should get cheaper and more energy dense if we stay on it.
incredible
I do wonder why none are using Wood or oil in place of coal? in Australia alot of our steam stuff is run on Wood and sometimes coal but mostly always on wood
A lot of places use Wood, Ryhope (the location in this film) mainly uses wood
@@teescottageguyproductions Nice, nice, was sorta worried if they'd killed Steam in the UK, because in australia we're still going strong with our steam operations
@GamingCraftTeam don’t worry steam is very much alive in the UK
What an incredible place the machinery is mesmerising.
Absolutely! I spent 3.5 hours in there just watching the engines ticking over and chatting to the lovely volunteers
Brilliant video and an amazing collection of engines
Thanks!
Abaolutely awesome, good meeting you James 👍
