Northstar California Resort: Upper Pioneer to Village Run

From the Tahoe Zephyr chair, I skied past the Zephyr lodge on Upper Pioneer. I intended to cut over to Deerskin, a long, pleasant blue run that had little traffic. However I went past the cut over and took lower pioneer instead. That led to Village Run and back to the Big Springs Gondola.

looks nice I'll have to ski there one day
The liftie said the sun was coming out. You sounded kind of snobby with your reply
@troypattillo4100 you've got to be kidding? I didn't hear what he said. And that was what I said to myself in the video as the chair pulled away. I wasn't sure if he was scolding me about something or just making small talk. I don't have the greatest hearing in the world. And it's impaired, a little more with ear flaps from my helmet over them ;) I'm always nice to lifties!
Thank you. This was really useful

very nice
Cool
I saw it from Clarksville, TX. So glad to have been blessed by the Moon's shadow.
U were sitting next to jet brooks right
Yes, and Suzanne
@3:28 When you say "here comes the shadow", you can clearly see the moon's shadow creeping up. It's awesome!
thanks for sharing your experience. definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity =)
Great place, nice contest Southwest. :D
I have no idea why this video got no likes omg, because this is one of the best videos i have ever seen!
Amie, thank you for sharing. That is so exciting. I am seriously impressed with how “all out” Omni & Southwest went! Enjoy!!!
Is Brian Head better than Eagle point.
I've not been to Eagle Point.
I NEED THE RESTRAINT. I WILL FALL AND D!E
I heard this place is long drive but the prices are good. Does it have many challenging runs.
The more challenging runs are on the Brian Head peak side. The Navajo side is mostly greens with a few blues. It is a very economical resort, especially for families.
All new lifts have them.
Can you ride the gondola with a Heavenly Ski Pass or do you have to buy another ticket?
Yes it's considered one of the lifts. I used my ski pass to ride it up to start my ski day.
Safety bars are completely unnecessary
A epic video with lots of detail- thanks for posting. Nothing like that here on the east coast - All the best and God Bless. 🙏❤🇺🇸
thanks, @ActiveJoe!
I'm definitely more comfortable with having a safety bar when riding a chairlift.

That's called sleet 🤣
Sleet aka "wintery mix" is not in solid, round pellet form such as this, but rather more of a slush. This was hail, ball bearing-sized. Perfect spheres.
yay me
😆
Headed to Vegas, I'd imagine... nice views on the approach
Yes, I thought it was a nice view at sunset.
It’s beautiful on that side of the mountain.
We won’t have a car while in winter park. I had read reviews that there is a resort bus stop by our hotel (best western) . But a person at the private lessons office said the bus system is terrible and tough to know when a bus will be by your stop. She also mentioned no Uber service in town and gave me contact info for a place called CK transport instead. I’m curious if you used the bus system and if so what your experience was like.
Sorry, I was just there for the day. I actually stayed over by Blackhawk, and also skied at Keystone and Loveland that week. Both of my visits to Winter Park have been day trips in a rental car.
I’m taking my kids (9 and 15) next week. I went skiing once 23 years ago so we’re all beginners. I booked a half day private ski lesson for us. Hopefully that’s enough to be comfortable on the easy/beginner areas.
Good luck, and reply back how you did! I'd say its a good start. A multi-day set of lessons to keep improving is better. Sometimes after a single half day, you may only be only be on the surface (carpet) lift. Hopefully by your lesson end you get some instruction on a chair lift. If you can swing it, I'd highly recommend a 2nd half day of lessons.
@@seaskiandme So day one of half day private lesson wasn’t great. The instructor had us walking around in skis expending a ton of energy. When we finally took the Gemini lift my daughter and I were able to ski right away and didn’t need help from the instructor. My son had an awful time and was unable to get down the slope without the instructor holding out a pole for him to hold on to. In short it sucked and wasn’t worth the insane money I paid. However, I decided to get him a private lesson the next day and hoped the instructor would be better. Well, he was WAY better. He was much younger then the first instructor and connected better with my son. After the 2nd lesson ended we skied discovery over and over about 10 times then skied all the way down to the base and took Gemini lift back up then skied all the the way to base again. It was awesome!!
@@Nflguy4949 Glad to hear it worked out in the end and you had a good time!
@@seaskiandmeis there any small slopes that you can walk up without a ski lift. We only want to snowboard 2 hours so I do think $125 pp is justified
@@ciara9930 I'm not aware of ANY ski resort where can you "practice" on their snow for free. You will have to sign a waiver to do so, which is usually done during the ticket purchase either explicitly or implicitly. HOWEVER, many resorts offer a "beginners only" lift ticket that limits the areas where you can ride/ski (perhaps only serviced by a magic carpet, tow rope. poma, etc.) Those are usually much more affordable. Alternately, a number of resorts that offer night skiing have more affordable night ski/ride tickets (can only use after 5PM or so. Note that it's usually much colder at night, but less crowded.) If you are a very experienced rider/skier, then for "free" you'd be looking at backcountry areas to hike/skin up to ride down. However, never do that alone or if not experienced due to avalanche and other dangers.
The Lakeview Express and the Lakeside trail are all great additions to Mt. Rose!
:D
back in my days it was the best we had
the first time that cat track sucked so bad on my 🏂 but finding Sunset was so worth it. love those tree runs
Thanks for the upload! I’m a beginner skier heading up to winter park next week and trying to plan my way around haha
Omg it looked so dark at some point! Did you enjoy night skiing? The couple times I did it I was freezing 🥶
I love night skiing: cheap lift ticket and no crowds! As far as the cold. I'm mostly used to it, living in the upper Midwest! It's only dark for a smidgen, and I'm very familiar with the place, but I guess might be intimidating to a newbie! The true beginner area is very well lit, though. The night ski I do in Wausau, WI requires toe warmers bc it's only 90 minutes north of Cascade but quite a bit colder.
Snow looks AMAZING!
It was pretty sick! Visibility tough in some spots, though.

omg, haven't been to BC in a few yrs, mostly been at Vail, Keystone & Steamboat. Going to BC this Jan ..Can't wait to check out McCoy , looks amazing fun :)
Found a nice tree run. I just uploaded it on my TH-cam
I just saw, but comments are turned off. Snow looks great and I can hear it squeaking! I'm jealous!👍

One of the best hills currently open for preseason
Indeed, they had a lot open but conditions were not the easiest. I won't complain for the chance at November turns, though!
@@seaskiandme yip exactly, too much ice not enough snow. Broke my thumb somehow today coming off the main run. Tues - Wed should be good. Snow coming in 😁
