Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas which motivate us to think about interesting subjects. Listening to many of your videos talking about robots, it seems that it is assumed that the robots have the same instincts, motivations and ego problems that people do. I keep thinking that if the robots would be smart and won't have the same systems of reward and punishments that our instincts/nature installed in us why would they bother to continue being and not turn themselves off. After all, being alive and pursuing goals are hard work.

"Science as an institution", IMHO he's basically talking a bit of nonsense here because those who do science merely for the sake of an institution or grant or paycheck are no better than doctors who fail to take the Hippocratic oath seriously. We didn't use to fall from grace so easily - we used to take our oaths and cultural values and mores thoughtfully. If I were sure that mechanistic atheism were correct I could have his view; he doesn't consider it jaded since he has no frame of reference for feeling that way. In the past 50 or so years educational institutions were worn down, as were countless corporations (fortunately my company ETC wasn't; the CEO gave his ownership stock to us); even though decades ago the moral beliefs espoused by large numbers in the U.S. were at times held hypocritically, at other times it served as a fabric; the same kind of fabric that politically correct individuals try to edit; but rather than being synthesized it was organic and full of interesting traditional and honor-based concepts. Put aside the hypocrisy which I know is real, and just consider that those morals grew out of close knit family units and groups of people whose existences were at odds with modern corporate interests which have taken over. Modern idealists try to use ESG and shaming to push ahead, but they could learn from the past, in seeing that spending hours a day with a tablet or phone trying to get a serotonin response from likes isn't the same thing as interacting with the energy fields of living individuals. Now imagine that in ancient times, a battle was waged for enlightenment, and "science" was a real thing, of individuals coming together, discussing ideas, using script, drawing, illustrating, to earn the right to meet with equally focused saints of learning. This is the legacy of Science, a conferring or benefaction that may only be in the minds of living men if you choose to believe so. It is not, however an institution. An institution, like a corporation, is a lifeless construct unfortunately. It has no morals, it is defined as a profit-seeking entity. Also there isn't one "institution" of science any more than there is one "institution" of education. You can set up policies and bribe people into compliance on ineffective educational methods and get them to commit to that one entity, but you can't force everyone to put heart and soul into it; there are many who see right through it, and types like Yuval whose ego is stroked by getting to make his erudite sounding pronouncements.
