I love hearing about other people who have had music guide them through tough times. Whenever I listen to Conception's "Parallel Minds" album, I'm always transported back in my head to the tough times I was going through, even though it was almost thirty years ago now. Music is such an incredible, amazing experience.

Thanks, Mary. It wasn't easy. Even listening to them for as long as I have, replicating their sound without it coming across forced was a very difficult thing to do. But I loved that Unplugged / Jar of Flies sound and really wanted to replicate it as I found it was Layne at his most relaxed.

The shock at the time was unfathomable. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

He absolutely was. Such an understated, and probably underestimated, vocalist. First time I saw them was when they supported Megadeth in Glasgow and I'd never even heard the name before, but they blew me away that night.

Really!!?? That was the first and only time I had the pleasure of seeing them, I was 15 at the time and they were supporting Megadeth only it was at the Edinburgh Playhouse not the Glasgow show. I had also not heard of them before then but I certainly knew of them afterwards one of the few support bands that made such an impression on me and I remember it vividly to this very day . You're right, it was Edinburgh, my bad! Megadeth, The Almighty, and Alice in Chains. I was 18 and I think it was the only time I came away from a Playhouse gig where I'd never heard the support band before and went straight out and bought their stuff. I remember Killer Dwarfs supporting Maiden and didn't like them, same with Loverboy supporting Def Leppard, Kings of the Sun supporting KISS. If you're still local, you should come see my band sometime. This is the only thing we've released with me as the singer, but there's an EP coming out shortly. It wasn't until I'd used the line "but it's over now" that I thought, "hmmm... I wonder!" and I had to make sure the other titles slotted in without it seeming as though they'd been shoehorned. Glad you like it :)

Aw, thank you, Kelli. Wanted to keep this one relatively simple and have it focus on Layne's tale rather than over-complicate it with unnecessary colours and textures.

I wrote the lyrics first, and when I first came up with the music I thought it would be better to NOT have it sound like AIC, but I argued with myself for quite some time before deciding that it would be more fitting to remember Layne as though he'd written it himself. It really is sad. If he'd only allowed those into his life who were trying to save him, we'd still have him with us today. There's a reason he wrote about his addiction as much as he did. He always knew it would take him, but he also knew he couldn't be without it. Such a shame.

Yeah, that's absolutely what I was going for. Risky, I know, because it genuinely does stick out like a sore thumb on the album... but it had to be Chainsesque for me to feel satisfied by it.

Hey! Yes, I wrote this early 2021. It was specifically written to sound like Alice in Chains around their Jar of Flies era, and to incorporate a number of their song titles in the lyrics.
