that's a honda, that happened to my on a 03 civic a plastic button goes there but 20 years made it crack and fall out. So then one morning your battery is dead and only after an hour of trouble shooting do you realize the brake lights are on all the time.

If you slather the anchor points w/ grease they will work right for the distance.

Check your grounds, then check the alternator after the battery. Always handy to have another battery because half the time or more it’s the alternator killing itself then charging half the time

Voltage regulator!

Reving the engine would also cause the alternator to spin faster generating more electricity in the process. My guess is either a faulty alternator (bearings or maybe it’s just old and kind of baked) or this could be a cabling issue, marginal connection that is only an issue at higher amperage or something. Speculating is fun with this stuff.
