Many individuals complete their bachelor's degrees and, after spending five to seven years working in the industry, choose to return to academia to pursue a postgraduate course. In fact, almost 70% of applicants in our mentorship programme come from such professional backgrounds. However, if you do not have any work experience, both universities and the UKVI will typically require a valid explanation for the gap. Generally, a study gap of more than three years without relevant work experience can be challenging to justify. In the past, we have worked with applicants in similar situations who undertook IELTS and short courses during their gap years. We were able to present this to universities and successfully secure offers for them. Ultimately, whether a study gap can be justified depends on your individual circumstances, background, and academic achievements." We requested Dr Niaz to respond to your comment and he provided us with the following reply: প্রথমেই আপনাকে ধন্যবাদ। আপনি যে দুটো বিষয়টা এখানে তুলে ধরেছেন তা বেশ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটা আলোচনা। এ বিষয় দুটো নিয়ে আলাদা ভিডিও তৈরির পরিকল্পনা আমার অনেক দিনের। আমি সংক্ষেপে এখানে কিছুটা আলোচনা করছি। ভবিষ্যতে আপনার কমেন্টের রেফারেন্স দিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করার ইচ্ছে রইলো আলাদা দুটো ভিডিওতে। নিজের উপর ইনভেস্টমেন্ট- এই বিষয়টার সাথে আর্থ সামাজিক অবস্থান জড়িত। আপনি শুনলে অবাক হবেন কেম্ব্রিজের ২৬% পিএইচডিই সেল্ফ-ফান্ডেড। আরো অবাক করা বিষয় হচ্ছে মানবিক বিভাগের ৪৩% পিএইচডি সেল্ফ ফান্ডেড। এ বিষয়ে রেডিটে একটা আলোচনা রয়েছে। আপনি সেটা পড়লে বিষয়টা সম্পর্কে আরো বিস্তারিত ধারণা পাবেন (আমি রেফারেন্স গুলো খুঁজে দেখছি, যাতে ভিডিও বানালে সেখানে যুক্ত করতে পারি): www.reddit.com/r/AskAcademia/comments/u57e7n/26_of_cambridges_phds_are_fully_selffunded/ আমি প্রচুর চাইনিজ এবং ইন্ডিয়ান সেল্ফ ফান্ডেড পিএইচডি স্টুডেন্ট যারা ইম্পেরিয়াল, ইউসিএল ইত্যাদিতে পড়ছে, তাদের সাথে কথা বলেছি। বিশেষ করে চাইনিজরা বললো তাদের বাবা-মা তাদের জন্যে ছোট বেলা থেকে এই টাকাটা জমাতে শুরু করে। এটা তাদের কাছে অনেকটা নিয়মিত লাঞ্চ করার মত বিষয়। ২০০৭ এ ইম্পেরিয়ালের একটা ছেলের সাথে কথা হয়েছিল। সে মাত্রই তখন পিএইচডি শেষ করতে যাচ্ছে। তার ইম্পেরিয়ালের পেইজে বড় বড় করে লিখে রেখেছিল যে তার পিএইচডি প্রায় শেষ এবং এখন সে জবের জন্যে অপেক্ষা করছে। তাকে যেন কল করা হয়! আমি ভীষণ অবাক হয়েছিলাম যে এভাবে কনফিডেন্টলি সে উল্টা রিক্রুটারদের বলে রাখছে তাকে যেন কল করা হয়! এ বিষয়টা পোস্ট কোভিডে আরো বেশি দেখতে পেলাম যখন আমি চাইনিজ স্টুডেন্টদের মেন্টরিং করি। আমি তখন এ্যাকাডেমিয়া ওয়ান বলে ইউকের একটা স্টার্টআপের সাথে কাজ করছিলাম। ওদের চাইনিজ স্টুডেন্টদের সাথে আমি ২ ঘন্টার একটা সেশন নেয়ার জন্যে ১০০ পাউন্ড পেতাম। সাথে কোঅর্ডিনেটর হিসেবে একটা চাইনিজ মেয়ে থাকতো। নিশ্চয় তার জন্যেও ১৫-২৫ পাউন্ড খচর হতো। আর কোম্পানীর লাভ তো আছেই। এই পুরো টাকাটা ঐ ছেলে-মেয়েরা দিত। একবার ঐ কোঅর্ডিনেটর মেয়েটা জয়েন করতে পারে নি। তখন আমি যাকে মেন্টরিং করছিলাম তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করেছিলাম, তোমরা এত খরচ করো কেন? সে বলে এটা কিছুই না। এমন কি সেই ছেলে পিএইচডির পর ইউকেও থাকবে না। তার দেশে এখন খুবই ভালো স্যালারির জব পাওয়া যাচ্ছে। কিন্তু শর্ত হচ্ছে রাসেল গ্রুপ ইউনিভার্সিটি থেকে পড়ালেখা করে আসতে হবে। তখন আমি বুঝি যে তারা জানে তাদের ইনভেস্টমেন্ট তুলে আনা সময়ের ব্যাপার। সেজন্যে তারা এই ইনভেস্টমেন্টটা করে। আমি সর্বশেষ গত মাসে একটা চাইনিজ টেকওয়েতে বসে এক টেকওয়ে ওউনারের সাথে কথা বলছিলাম। তিনিও একই কথা বললো। অতএব বুঝতে পারছেন, খরচটা এখানে একটা লং টার্ম ইনভেস্টমেন্ট। আমি যখন আয়ারল্যান্ডে আসি মাস্টার্স করতে, সেটা ফুললি ফান্ডেড ছিল। পরে আমি পিএইচডিও করি ফুললি ফান্ডেড। ঐ সময় আমার ইম্পেরিয়ালে পিএইচডি করার অফার ছিল। যদি আমার সক্ষমতা থাকতো, তাহলে আমি গ্লাসগোর ফুললি ফান্ডেড পিএইচডি না করে ইম্পেরিয়ালেরটা করতাম। যে ভিডিওর কথা বললাম, সেখানে এ বিষয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করবো। একেবারে আমার নিজের ব্যক্তিগত অভিজ্ঞতা নিয়ে। সবশেষে, কমিশনের কথাটা বললেন। রিসার্চ মাস্টার্স এবং পিএইচডির জন্যে আমরা যে পরিমাণ সার্ভিস দিচ্ছি, সেটার জন্যে একটা টাকাও কারো থেকে চার্জ করছি না শুধু মাত্র কমিশনের কারণে। প্রায় ২০০ স্টুডেন্ট মেন্টরিং করার পরে হয়তো ১০-১৫ জনের জন্যে কমিশন পাচ্ছি আমরা। আমাদের টিমে কাজ করছেন ৪ জন ডেডিকেটেডলি। তাদের স্যালারি এবং অন্যান্য যে খরচ আছে, তা তুলে আনা সহজ নয়। অথচ কেউ বলতে পারবে না জীবনে কারো কাছ থেকে একটা টাকা আমরা নিয়েছি আজ প‍র্যন্ত। যেহেতু প্রসঙ্গটা তুললেনই, তাই এ বিষয়েও ক্লারিফাই করে একটা বিস্তারিত ভিডিও পরে আপলোড করবো। আপনার মন্তব্যটা লেখার সময় আপনি শেষের দিকে এসে একটু রেগে গিয়েছিলেন। আমি ঐ অংশ টুকু ইগনোর করে গেলাম। আশা করি এখানে অথবা অন্য ভিডিওতে আপনার সাথে গঠনমূলক আলোচনা হবে আবারও। আর বিজনেসই আমাদের কাছে শেষ কথা নয়। আপনি অনেক ভালো ভালো ভিডিও পাবেন এখানে। পাশাপাশি আপনার যদি বিশেষ কোন ভিডিও সম্পর্কে আগ্রহ থাকে এবং আমাদের বানাতে বলেন, আমরা অবশ্যই সেটা বিবেচনা করে দেখবো। ভালো থাকবেন।
