That "you're alone" hits so hard...

This is still my favourite song from the first two sagas, though most of the rest are also very good. The high level continues, as well as the many twists and turns in the story. The whole musical is great, the final Ithaca saga is the only one I have been able to see at the time it was released over Christmas. It will be interesting to follow your journey, thanks for sharing.

Ah! Your reactions are great! A lot of people seem to know something about theater or Greek mythology, but a person going into this completely blind amazes me! I would say I'm excited for you to react to a specific saga, but all of them have awesome songs. Motifs! Motifs are used a lot in Epic! You're right about Athena having a piano to represent her being there! I would watch out for motifs since a lot of them are subtle and a motif might be there without the character that goes with it. Athena is the goddess of war tactics, she's very analytical, so it does make sense for her to have some ignorance in why Ody is so upset. Odysseus met Athena when he was young (as mentioned in Warrior of the Mind) so of course he sees her as a friend! She's a god, though, and doesn't understand how complex human emotions are. I wouldn't say that Ody sees Athena's ideals as wrong, but he doesn't want to be as ruthless as she wants him to be. You talk a lot about the lyrics themselves and the emotions behind them. I say this since a lot of reactors talk about how smart the "wiser / why's your" lyric is and simply allow the other lyrics to be interpreted. This isn't a bad thing at all by the way! Yes! The ghosts are people that have made an impact on his life! We see Polites holding the infant and a woman on the left. I also think the "just a man" line is interesting because it could be negative, as in: Odysseus doesn't deserve her teaching since he's just a man. It could also be more positive, as in: Odysseus is just a man and doesn't need to push himself this hard.

Polites was likely the person who would have talked Odysseus through things up to this point, his moral and emotional center. His "light" if you will. Athena has been with him for nearly as long as Polites and Eurylochus, but she never came down to his level or accepted his friendship. She does have a solid point with the cyclops though and may not have been so angry if he had groveled instead of fought her even if he opted to flee in silence instead of killing Polyphemus. PS Keep an ear out for all these motifs in future sagas, they can give as much insight as the lyrics and animations.

The thing with Athena is, she had good intententions. She wanted to make Odysseus a good leader, she warned him about the danger, and she is mad that he did something that may harm him in the future... But you rightfully noticed that she lacks empathy. She always tried to give Ody a wise advise and tell him how to live his life, when he actually could use some emotional support. I think this song is such a good breakup scene, because they both kinda care about each other, but then they get mad at each other and start yelling and say the worst possible things. Odysseus telling Athena she is alone hits hard, because she is really pretty lonely goddess in mythology.

I really like this song, because it shows Odysseus in the interesting state of mind. On the one hand he is sick of bloodshed and wants to honor Polites by showing mercy. Also don't forget that he killed the baby and the guilt is still haunting him. But on the other hand he is really hurt and angry, and these emotions make him forget the caution and make some decisions that he may regret in the future. And there is also a bit of hubris here, because he is kinda wants to be merciful to the cyclops, but actually turns it into a gloating over him, and it's not really the way to make peace. Also I like you thoughts about how Odysseus is going to act in the future based on what Polites taught him versus what the harsh reality of his situation will teach him... There will be a lot to unpack.

Polites is still our favorite sunshine child despite his death, his impact on us and on Odysseus is felt throughout the musical

fun fact: in the original story, Polites lived longer than he did in the musical, but had much smaller role, meanwhile in the musical he lived shorter but managed to leave an impact

Some songs in Epic like these two go really well together (and i do recommend listening to each saga in one session for the best expierience) But yes 7 men have fallen including Polites 593 men still standing

I too believe that Polyphemus was the real victim here. Even when my class read the Odyssey in high school, I felt bad for him.

Hello again! "Turn off your heart" is not a very common phrase in America, but "Use your head/brain" is (which makes sense since she's the goddess of wisdom) and I assume that Athena meant that Ody should use logic rather than his emotions in decision making. I'm pretty sure the artifact you tried to describe is a scale! The apple was most likely the one that Polites tried giving Odysseus. The song was probably Athena using Quick Thought again, in my opinion, and it was Athena telling him to "Use his head" as I said earlier The sagas, from what I know, mark a transition in Odysseus' journey in becoming ruthless and the next major conflict. A lot of songs make more sense when watched together (The Horse and the Infant + Just a Man) and I'd like to list them to make things easier! The Cyclops Saga would make more sense split in three (Polyphemus, Survive + Remember Them, My Goodbye) The Ocean Saga should be split in half (Storm + Luck Runs Out, Keep Your Friends Close + Ruthlessness) The Circe Saga can be split in two or three, but I think three would make more sense (Puppeteer, Wouldn't You Like, Done for +There are Other Ways) The Underworld Saga can be listened to one at a time The Thunder Saga is a bit complicated (Suffering + Different Beast, Scylla, Mutiny + Thunder Bringer) In the Wisdom Saga Legendary, Little Wolf. and We'll be Fine should be listened to together and the rest (Love in Paradise, God Games) can be listened to separately. In the Vengeance Saga only Get in the Water and 600 Strike are better when listened to together. I am sorry if this sounds too straightforward and maybe even rude, I am incredibly tired at the time of writing this comment.

You are already recognized the main theme of the mysical! "Open arms" vs "ruthlessness" is going to come back a lot in the future, you'll see. I think it's okay if you react on separate songs, because you talk a lot, and videos are going to be long. But on the other hand some songs are very tightly connected, so it may be hard for you to wait for the next one after some heavy cliffhanger. Some people prefer to record reactions on several songs at once, but then edit and release them separately. But you do what you more comfortable with! Also the Polish cover sound interesting!

There are certain songs that you will want to react to together if you plan on doing more than one in an episode. (Eg next saga would split well into two videos, Get in the Water and different beasts work well grouped together, Storm + luck runs out, and mutiny+thunderbringer)

The lotus eaters are called Winions!! It is a combination of wind and minions because (this only kind of a spoiler for the musical) they were canonized, or made official, in Keep Your Friends Close (The third song in the Ocean Saga). The word Winions what fans of Epic: The Musical are called too, often called the "Winion Army" With some of the confusion at the end: The fruit that the Winions offered in the bowl was the mind-controlling lotus that they did NOT eat and after Polites asked they told him and Odysseus the way to a cave that had non-lotus food. They go to the cave and the plot continues. The vision is explained in the next song (which I see you have reacted too! Yay!) but is because of Athena's "Quick Thought" a power that allows her and who she uses it on (In this case Ody,/Odysseus) to have an entire conversation or whole battle in just a few seconds. I'm very excited to see more reactions!!

Open Arms is such a heartwarming song, and yeah mircsy's design of the lotus eaters is adorable ! This hopeful philosophy of Polites clashes with that of Odysseus (and that of most people I’d say) but it did reach a part of him. After this 10-year-long war and the unspeakable acts that come with it, Polites truly is the light in the dark for Ody and the crew. Warrior of the Mind is next and the last song of this first saga. Mircsy’s animatic of it will indeed answer your questions regarding the end of this one. Have fun !
