Very nice Paul.....by the gold records on the wall I'm going to assume you are one and the same Paul Mills who produced Stan Rogers? I too love James Keelaghans work.....his first four albums I consider my bible.. ....what an incredible piece of songwriting with this one!

Thanks! Yes, I did produce Stan Rogers but the gold records are not for his recordings. They are for records I produced of the children's act, Sharon, Lois & Bram.

Aahh my heart ❤ Cousin Cyril my Hero. I wore this CD out and now wish I can find a copy somewhere. Is there anywhere I can possibly purchase this Paul? Even downloaded version if at all possible? I would love to be able to listen to them all again. I miss them all so dearly.

Good job. I remember when they came out too. I always liked them , they were entertainers, and had a sense of humor that was sadly lacking in the Great Folk Scare.

Thank you Paul. Love the song and the story. met you a while back at a house concert in Montreal. Had Ron perform in Ormstown a couple of times and he left a life time impression with the folks in the Chateauguay Valley. Love the man and his songs. sadly missed as well.

So beautiful! I am learning to play this song from your video (slowed down). There are lessons galore on youtube for the fingerstyle guitar parts by Peter Paul &Mary and Eva Cassidy but I like your interpretation more. The thing you do with Gsus(?) in the intro and end actually sounds like gentle rain. Beautifully sung as well.

This was the first Gordon Lightfoot song I learned to play and sing, way back in the 1960s. I still enjoy singing it today. You cover it well.

I love your covers, they give me a glimpse to the past to an artist that I'll never be able to hear in person, i just discovered stan last October and i immediately fell in love with his music. So thank you paul for preserving these wonderful songs that are more than 2 decades older than me.

You are amazing at guitar, I'm just getting into guitar because I have a highschool class on it and I've been wanting to play stan's songs, but I never find tutorials for the more obscure songs, but I'm not mad, because every time I see you play and it just reminds me that it's possible. So thank you paul

Thank you so much for sharing this. It brought tears to my eyes as I was looking for something to play as I try to learn to play myself (I think I'll start a bit less ambitious than a 12-string, though!). My daughter Ellen is named after this song and it's been one of our favourites. She's been the epitome of the song and is a neurosurgeon now - I like to think Stan would be proud. We sing it together whenever something bad is happening. Rise again! <3

I’m walking thru Gage Park 1976 Festival Of Friends Sunday morning and I hear this big booming voice singing this song ,I had never heard of this song or Stan and I says to my wife who is that and we made our way to little stage to listen to,my first introduction to Stan Rogers. Later that evening they had open mic on same stage and I got up and sang 2 songs I had written, Now this 16 yr old kid asks me if he can borrow my Gibson J 200 to sing also and I ask him his name and he says Tom Wilson . Yes my ole friend Fr Blackwood had service for Stan at St Luke’s in Hamilton 1 block from my house where I’ve lived for 82 yrs and neighbours of mine at that time were David Essig & Jackie Washington,True Story love your stuff Paul Thanx

Hello! I'm a Canadian expat in Japan, and The Elephant Show was one of the programs that I grew up watching in the 90s. I had been teaching this version to my students for many years in lieu of the cliché and overused Super Simple Songs ones, and the kids always love the altered outro! I picked up guitar last year after a 20 year hiatus, and I'm about a month into my second year of playing. (Counting from January 2023.) Since Valentine's is coming up again, I thought it would be great to learn the song on guitar. When I searched for a tutorial, your video came up. Your video was clear enough that I can learn from the man himself, and it has been super fun jamming along with you. Just one chord name escaped me though, but I think it's in the A family? It's not an A. Not an Am, but between those! I'm sure it won't be hard to reverse Google image search the chord, haha. Your love and friendship with Sharon, Lois, and Bram really shines at the end of the video. Thank you for everything you do.

Beautiful fingerstyle 👍technique. I specially like that *final chord BMaj7* 3:46 which is something I play in first position (no capo) as a GMaj7. But I tend to add the middle finger on the 3rd string but same fret as the index finger so it plays a 9th of that chord... so the *actual chord in your version* would have *the middle finger on the 3rd string and 6th fret* and could be labelled as [BMaj7 (9)] I think 😅 That ninth just makes the chord even nicer in my opinion but of course you have to use these jazzier chords with discretion when you are playing country classics like *Early Morning Rain* 🤔 😀👍
