Emergency Planning for Seniors and Disabled Adults
During emergency situations, seniors and disabled adults may face unique challenges. For those with health and mobility issues, or who rely on electricity to power vital medical devices, it is especially important that they plan in advance for potential emergency situations such as fire/smoke, power shut offs, earthquakes, etc. Do you know how to adequately prepare and respond?
This webinar brings together a panel of experts - Navjit Dosanjh from PG&E, Ron Halog from ILRSCC, and Lars Eric Holm from Eden I&R / 211 - to discuss emergency preparedness for seniors and disabled adults. Navjit, Ron, and Lars Eric share helpful tips and resources that will help seniors, disabled adults, and the organizations that serve them be better prepared to respond to emergencies.

Safe and Visible- Making a Home Visit Welcoming to LGBT Seniors
มุมมอง 3.8K7 ปีที่แล้ว
So much progress has been made for LGBTQ rights in the U.S. But, many who grew up and spent decades living in the shadow of legally-sanctioned oppression are scarred. And of those who were able to live 'out of the closet' when they were younger, many now feel the need to hide their authentic selves as they become frailer or dependent with age. If you were vulnerable and didn't know who to trust...
Safe and Visible: Creating a Care Facility Welcoming to LGBT Seniors
มุมมอง 84K7 ปีที่แล้ว
Because they grew up and came of age in a time when their rights and safety were not protected and discrimination was even sanctioned by society and the government; LGBT older people on average are more likely to live in poverty and have deferred healthcare issues, and less likely to have an established support system. Many remain traumatized by the oppression they experienced over several deca...

God loves everyone but it hurts when we sin. There’s a reason why we feel shame even tho we have people supporting us. No matter what, we need god. We have to give up ourselves to Jesus and allow him to guide us in our lives. We love everyone. And we want the best for everyone. But you have to want that for urself to. And you have to think, what you’re willing sacrifice for the truth. Bless all who read this 🙏 I pray that you allow the lord to work in your life like how he’s done for so many others

Crazy to think that just 6yrs ago we were saying "lgbt" and not "lgbtq" like we do now. In any case, I'm glad we're coming along, but it such slow progress still... Even assuming we have aids and will sxxually assault children (all while cishet folks like to ignore the statistics that cishet harm children the most, especially from a child's own parents). It's exhausting constantly fighting to be heard. Some bigoted people are so brainwashed and uneducated that they think being gay is a struggle people choose, mainly something white people choose, because they think white people never have systematic struggles.

No, you're not alone! And just because there is a decal or little "rainbow flags" in the flower boxes doesn't mean that the facility is open or welcoming to LGBT residents either! Anti-LGBT rhetoric at local senior centers goes on ALL THE TIME! The hurtful slurs and derogatory remarks of straight residents are often never confronted or corrected by senior center staff! Most often they try to pass things off as a "joke", but it's not a "joke" to the person(s) that are being humiliated. It's deliberate bullying!!!

Way too much talking and lecturing. The people he was blathering on about should have been permitted to talk for themselves. What a waste of a documentary.

I'm South African and gay. In my 20s I dreamed of opening a LGBTQ old age home. Life happened, I never did open that home, and now, suddenly, I an 54, almost old enough to live in a home myself... watching this video, and others like it recently, has rekindled the dream.
