Several weeks of slaying tanks at slab lake
The cariboo did not disappoint with producing some large rainbows ice fishing this winter, although I did get skunked half of my outings it was all worth it to catch fish like these through the ice.. what a rush

(3:52) I think the DFO says that you have to keep the carapace on the crab until you get it home. Otherwise, there's no proof that it was legal - with the carapace 165 cm across. (6 1/2"). But I have to say that I am SO jealous. What a marvelous catch you got.
Yup you gotter, that’s correct. It specifies that the carapace must remain on until you are at the place of consumption. I always leave mine whole to take home. But the ones im eating on the water or at camp I clean. Also important for identifying male/female 👍🏼 Cheers :)
EXCELLENT VIDEO Thank you for sharing... Please NOTE: The Background Noise/music was a little too LOUD making it hard to hear you.
Amazing! Thank you!
Interesting video. Any idea of why there are no guardrails?
@@ryhinton thank you, there is a couple spots that have cement barricades but for the most part there is none due to the continual sloughing and movement of the hill, it the same idea why it’s not paved as the hillside is always moving
@@wesseufert5028Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.
Any dock where u can do crabbing? Planning to go there from vancouver
Very interesting and good video ❤❤❤
Realistically, how long from Bella Coola to Williams Lake? Time wise.
It’s five hours towing my boat, might getter done a little quicker not towing.
Also a hotspring on other side of bay. In the 1960s it was a hole that the water came out of and d someone built an in ground bathtub, cement, I believe and had moss type covered planks in the bottom. You could only access at low tide. Where you are, it was a shack with a tub in it and a hose that ran continuously in it. We would bailout the tub a couple of inches to put in cold water. It was very hot. There were two middle aged men living up the river and they would walk down to the outdoor, homebuilt tub at low tide for their bath. This was all back in the 1960s when I was a kid. We used to go and visit Frenchie and Simpson and their Siamese cat, who lived on a house barge. Sometimes a dock would be at the entrance on the right and sometimes in the bay. The bay was usually too shallow at low tide for more than one boat to be tied to it. I think it was a fisherman’s net dock fir when he repaired his net.
Where abouts was this place you are talking about? I know of one hotspring but the place you are describing I have never heard of?
Those fellas lived on a float camp on west side od Eucott bay,my dads norwegian friend had a camp on east side that was near the main hotsprings
Surprised you don’t have rock protection for your boat.
Really enjoyed it
Great trip you guys. Too bad few crabs. I few years ago we flew into Ocean Falls to meet friends on their boat for a trip through the inside passage. While at Ocean Falls we set one crab trap at about 2 pm, picked it up about 2 hours later hoping to have a crab for dinner. It was full of crabs, I mean stuffed. We threw any crab 7 inches or less back and kept the 8 and 9 + ones. I had never seen so many crabs in a trap. Apparently it is the eel gras which holds the big crabs. 60 feet of water right infront the blue building. I have pics as proof. You could make Ocena Falls in your boat . There is a dock and small store there.
Thanks for that, much appreciated. Sounds like a wonderful trip and time you must’ve had 😎 such a beautiful spot!
Couldn't imagine a worse hill to be on, in snow. That snow plow is the only reason you made it.
That steep drop-off next to the road is actually Young Creek Canyon.
Shhhhh
Just watched you catching some beautiful bows thanks for taking this old coyote fishing
the water looks so calm is it always like there up there?
No I just got lucky this trip, I’ve had to call the coast guard before due to weather issues. It can be nasty. Mind you the “work channel” is typically calm
Great video, I’m going to try your fillet method on my next Kokanee limit. Thanks for sharing 😎
Work Channel ?
You betcha
Thank you so much for sharing your set up. Most guys wont show nothing. Im heading up in the cariboo end of feb. Thanks again for your video...
Right on Dave, thanks. I don’t mind sharing, and good luck when you come to the cariboo soon 👍🏼😎
Thank you...@@wesseufert5028
Read story very interesting! Slow down your video pan as us older folks need time to process. Good work
Now GET BACK THERE! Look at all that exposed cobble. There's GOLD in them thar banks! Probably LOTS. 😧
That, and when Vladimir flipped his boat he had 17 bags full of dust. According to my version of that fateful day in 1971.
@@clamsoup Yikes! I'm on my WAY!!
Popped in to add Russians in BC circa 1950 were likely Russian Doukhobor exiles. Many were in New Denver. They were chased like dogs. A sad tale when you dig into it - you may have seen national news articles recently.
Very cool, what a great way to spend a day :)
Cool video, bush looks dry as a popcorn fart already
Live nearby and never knew the island existed. Bizarre story. Thanks for posting.
where those orcas you passed in the start of this video?
Yup they sure are 😎
3 bottle caps screwed to a 1" dowel works awesome for scaling. Totally have to scale 'em, Im the same way. Nice fileting skills bud 🍻
Thanks for the video. I’m wondering where you got the fillet knife from. Good job, love that green machine.
Thank you. The fillet knife came from “fish tales tackle” in terrace BC. Hard to find a good one with a spoon on the end!
Awesome video . Gunna go try my luck up there soon Any lakes around that you suggest for burbot ?
Thank you, and burbot.. it seems most people go to Canim or Lac De Rouche. Good luck
Really appreciate your videos. Which community would you suggest a single lady goes to live off-grid near???
In that area.....mostly wild and no road access. Off grid living...maybe around Bella Coola area.
nice video. where did you find that cover for the bow of your boat? Thanks.
I live in williams lake BC and a company called "The recovery room" in Williams lake made it for me. Does great work!
It looks great. Thanks for getting back @@wesseufert5028
Is this chimney near Williams ? Is there burbot in this lake as well Don’t live around here but going to be working out here for the next few years . Looking to target burbs
It sure is chimney , and yes burbot.. but from what I’ve seen n caught burbs are small. Hit chimney in new year for Kokanee it can be amazing 😎👍🏼 just look for everyone else lol
Heard lots about that road , thanks for the video helps ease my mind
Cool vid....been up that Hill many times in many conditions. Always amazed how things improve/fall apart in a very short period of time. AND....definitely need a full tank and cash in case power is out or interac is out along the Chilcotin. Glad you got back safely and had Mr. Plow there.
I’m so impressed with your crab and prawn trapping and your guided tours. Beautiful country!
Great video, Wes!
Quite the adventure! Glad to see you are doing well; great truck, beautiful boat. I loved your narration.😊
Thanks wendy, surprised you recognized me after all these years. Doing very well and loving life. Take care Wendy and thanks for all the education 🙏
Lol wish the ministry marked the road better after they put the new road in. I’m going back out there in a couple days and I’m bringing a sign with me.
Thanks. I thought most of it was paved. Glad you mentioned that at the end. Can't wait to see the Ocean.
That first turn at the top use to be a nineteen percent grade.
Very nice tour, Thank You !!
Thanks very helpful. The road does haven image that looks darn too. It’s. Not for the faint of heart. Keep up the great work love the drone shots too.
I was over to Texada for 1 day last May long weekend, didn't get past Gillies bay due to limited range on the e-bike, hopefully get back there soon on the motorbike.lot's more to explore, thanks for sharing.
Maybe the spring have cooled down because we definitely coo,ed eggs when I was younger.
When we first started going there t hat big pool your In wasn't there it was just a smaller pool at the hot end a d t h e ca n p grou d was this rustic camp ground way nicer than that a n d ft here was always a moose in the boardwalk area.
I grew up in watson lake back in the eighties when the alaska highway was still a trajl, my dad aas an airport manager and we spent almost every weekend there as my mom and i were in a very bad car accident and moms leg was almost amputated andthesprings were so good for her legs.
