I've never seen this series ever before but even I'm so upset rn... Even from just the clips Shawn and Angela seem so cute together :((( Gonna ignore that girl meets world exists and headcanon that they end up together (or stay friends at least)

They could have saved it by putting in more work on why they didn’t get together. Like I could write a better ending to their relationship and I’m not remotely a writer. They had it on their plate too. All they needed to do was go back and show that they DID communicate and Angela knows he wanted to marry her but she realized that she enjoyed being overseas. That they grew apart as people and had realized they wanted different things. That would have been a good lesson for the show. That would have been realistic. Topanga could have still been good friends.

I can't say I agree. I can tell that you are strongly in favor of this film, but keep in mind, there will be people who will criticize the media you enjoy and that's fine. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. Some of the "hate" isn’t just out of bitterness. There are plenty of valid criticisms and you shouldn't call them "losers" for having opposing viewpoints. That's just immature Jumping into the film's specifics, yes, I know it's an adaptation but that doesn't mean every decision was a good decision. In Meet The Plastics, they took away Karen and Gretchen’s parts and butchered Stupid With Love so badly. I also can’t comprehend why they deliberately hired an Aaron who doesn’t sing. I also hate the assumption that people hate theatre-like songs, so they thought "remixing" it into something poppy would be the best course of action. I’m not too keen on fashion but the outfits are also a fair criticism because, yes, they do look bad. They might be a trivial to you, but the outfits in the original film, they reflect on their status at the top of the hierarchy and their personalities. Regina wears rich clothing, indicating her wealth, Gretchen’s clothes have more color variety, and Karen’s style is a bit more preppy. You can see how much they put into the fashion in the original movie. Overall, the movie was okay-ish. I wasn't expecting much from a movie musical but it's not the worst out there.

You actually do not know if there was something that happened between them after the last episode of BMW. There was a lot of time there in between so there was plenty of time for them to get together and split up in between. No I don’t like the loss of Angela as she was one of the best characters from BMW however just assuming nothing happened between the two characters between the two shows is not the best either.

People break up for a lot of different reasons. Don’t make problems where there are none

never watched any of these shows but its so bizarre how they frame her reason for leaving as superfluous and that she just abandoned this guy out of nowhere. but she had to choose between her dad(her family) and the boy she loved, it's so weird

If Shawn was still so butthurt about Angela, clearly he was not mature enough to marry and adopt. The whole thing was yuck. I would've liked Katy way more without Shawn in the mix.

I know it was racial because they could have given Shawn and Angela their own show. They were far more realistic than Cory and Topanga, they dealt with actual real life while Cory and Topanga's situations were always like "privileged problems", you know? Like that episode when Cory's parents refused to help them when they needed a place to live. He kept whining about not liking the place instead of being an adult and fixing it up like Shawn and Angela had suggested. Even in the earlier seasons, Shawn was more interesting and realistic than Cory because he dealt with things people deal with fr: poverty, family issues, abandonment, etc. Cory's problems mainly consisted of him whining about every small issue thrown at him. Honestly, if it weren't for Shawn, I wouldn't have watched the show because when the episodes were only surrounding Cory, it was terribly boring, so much that I'd fall asleep. Then when Angela came, I got so excited and it made me feel so...idk, proud? Shawn and Angela's relationship had such a major impact, it was so important to see that as a black kid! That alone should've been a reason to have them end up together and/or have their own show

Shawn and Angela would've been so bad for each other. They never truly trusted each other. They were never really their own couple. They only wanted Cory and Topanga. Stop making it about race, please.

They had to diminish Angela to justify why Shawn needed to marry the mother of the female version of him. Like we get it Maya is meant to be Shawn so he has to be her dad. But like at least put effort into ending Shawn and Angela because he fell for her.

GMW had me stressing growing up bc i watched it live. I watched BMW while also watching GMW and was like "wow the spin off was ass." When they did the Shawn and Maya mom thing i was so pissed

another thing that made no sense was the episode about when they were finding out where they're family is from and Riley was just american? like what? did they forget that native americans exist? and if she was they don't mention the culture of native americans at all, and beside the point that no one in Riley family looks native american like i was so confuse watching that episode as a kid, i know Topanga in BMW was from hippies but from what i can i see they're family was just hippies not native

It's all the more upsetting because Shawn obviously lied. With Angela having moved on and everyone, both alive and dead, in his life telling him to be with Gertrude, his final statement about Angela was actually about Bubbles. He is only marrying Tina because he feels like it's what he's supposed to do. Shawn is still hurt that Angela left. He initially understood and supported her decision but, due to various reasons we'll never get to know, they couldn't make it back to each other and now he resents her for leaving. So now, in attempts to make him feel better and not so empty, everyone turned to either trashing or not mentioning her. Once Maya takes a liking to him because of they're similar (but no the same) abandoned and rebellious upbringing, everyone's just like "Hey, you know how you're still hung up on Voldemort? Welllllll Maya has a a single mom. You already loosely look at her in a daughterly way, why not give Becky a shot?" Shawn is upset that Angela moved on, got married and had the nerve to come to him over a decade later about her marital woes and contemplations. When Angela suggests Mary could be right for him he's a little offended but leans in anyway because what else does he have. He knows it'll make Maya and everyone else around him happy to move on and even more so if it's Maya's mom. Since Terri for whatever reason seems to be already all in on Shawn he just dives in head first because it's what everyone else wants him to do. His final statement about Angela was his way to try to move on by invalidating their time together. He's finally at least trying to grieve the loss of Angela by committing to this new life with Maya and Brittany. He meant what he said, but it wasn't true to his time with Angela but rather his future time with Denise.

If they wanted to go the route of Katy and Shawn. They could’ve done it more tastefully. Perhaps Angela and Shawn tried marriage, but Angela rebounded better than Shawn. And maybe Shawn notices Katy when maybe she gives him a pep talk or something, or notices how much of a good role model he is for Maya. And maybe that kickstarts Shawn and Katy’s relationship. And Angela is NOWHERE to be seen, and isn’t spoken of negatively. Or maybe there’s a flashback that shows Angela and Shawn ending on very good terms. There were way better ways to do this.
