    After a bike fit advise, I reduced the width of my bars and it eliminated upper arm soreness during endurance rides. Went from stock 40cm->38cm matching my shoulder measurement.

    I think maybe one factor is still not recognized: On a stationary there is only the body shifting from side to side, on a real bike it is the whole system of rider and bike. I don't mind that the fitter won't recognize disbalances or assymetries, but if symmetry is established on the stationary maybe better check also the drivers dynamics on a real bike, there's also free rollers to do so inside. And as the bike is shifting naturally the pelvic shift is shortened and should eliminate body shifting. Maybe this would allow to dial in a greater saddle height and dial it into the best interaction of body parts and bike. Perhaps there's also an energy return in that shift, so the shifting might not be reduced to zero. Also a side shift of the bike prolongs the distance between the pedals and perhaps improves the force direction of the downstriking leg so the leg doesn't point inwards but straight downwards contrary to the picture on the stationary. How I come to these thoughts? 😅 I used my stationary roller for first time since maybe ten years😅 and I found myself very uncomfortable on the saddle and wobbling around and I felt that my tightly clamped bike not allowed me any wobbling or shifting. And what feels completely different -- there must yet be a difference.

    • @Raucherbeinknacker
      @Raucherbeinknacker หลายเดือนก่อน

      And maybe it's a big deal for the bike fitting, because if the stationary does not shift naturally it will not allow the rider to move naturally!☝

    Isnt it better to measure ankle mobility in half kneeling? Standing you can easily cheat by using your spine ? If you extend the spine (anteriorly tilt of pelvis), you can get a lot further.

    That emoji is cringeworthy. And some people should start to understand that road bikes are meant to be ridden with the torso at steep angles. Those who complain about neck and shoulder pain and mount short stems in order to ride an a vertical position would probably be better off riding hybrid bikes.

    • @ecphysiotherapy8012
      @ecphysiotherapy8012 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey mvm9407, thanks for sharing your opinion. While I agree with what you're saying about road bikes needing a longer and lower handlebar height, the decision isn't always black and white. I educate everyone on the consequences of changing bar reach and height, but you have to consider and respect the person's decision. If they can make an informed decision for themselves then I consider my role to be successful. Some examples: they may not have the means to buy a new bike, or they may have attached sentimental value to their bike. Also, as a health care practitioner I'm happy to take the heat on that emoji if it helps to protect my patients' privacy.

    Very good video. Short and to the point. I’ve been experiencing the same problem with a 110mm stem and been guessing I need a shorter one. I will definitely try out a shorter one, probably 80mm actually.

    • @Aston2003
      @Aston2003 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I took a chance and went directly down to a 60mm from my previous 110mm. Insane difference. For the first time in the roughly 3 years I have had the bike I feel genuinely relaxed in my neck/shoulder blade area. I thought a bit of discomfort sort of came with the territory riding a racing bike. Not anymore 😊. And there is no problem at all for me to get down low (on my drops for example) if I want to go aggressive-mode in a sprint or against head wind for example.

    I have the same issue and have seen this with other riders. Found it had nothing to do with my fit and everything to do with newer shimano brake hoods. They are smaller/narrower than older versions, thus placing the heal of the palm in that spot. I have two bikes, the same model, everything. One new and one older. Older bike has wider Shimano hoods, no issues. Both bike setup the same.

    Hate to disagree but your main focus on fore and aft adjustment should be knee loading....or at least that is I was told by some top coaches.

    • @ecphysiotherapy8012
      @ecphysiotherapy8012 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes knee loading is something to tune into for sure. In general, the more aft the saddle, the more hamstrings load. And the more fore the saddle, the more quads load.

    • @ecphysiotherapy8012
      @ecphysiotherapy8012 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have pain on the outside back the foot should be rotated heel out. For pain on the outside front of the knee, the foot should be rotated toe out. For outside center knee pain, move the foot away from the bike.

    I have knee pain. My knee collapses inward and brushes the top tube. I think I might be internally rotating my femurs on the downstroke. My toes point out so if I reduce stand width too much my shoes/heel strikes the crank arm and even the chainstays sometimes. Any suggestions? Maybe I just need to focus on hip/glute strength to keep my knees more in line with ankle? Thanks!

    • @ecphysiotherapy8012
      @ecphysiotherapy8012 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you still want your pelvis to rotate forwards evenly on each side during the pedal stroke

  • @Gledii
    @Gledii ปีที่แล้ว

    what about the pedaling strenght during the test.? i noticed that at high load, its much easier to keep the hands off compared to low load or high cadence. i have my seat a way back but still cant remove the hands without a little effort on increasing the cadence...

    • @ecphysiotherapy8012
      @ecphysiotherapy8012 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes effort is another variable that will help dictate how to set this part of the bike up. If you race your bike and want to be dialed in during threshold efforts, then the saddle may be a bit more forwards and front end of the bike lower. Whereas if you wish to be more comfortable during an endurance pace the saddle may be a little more aft in comparison.

    I have a pain deep in my left glute when putting power out. Im 34 now. Im a cat1 cyclists planning to race again next year. I had to stop racing because of this issue at 25. Its gotten better with a wider saddle and some strength exercises but still comes up when really putting power out. I have a leg discrep on the right but shimming didnt help back in the day. I even rode shorter crank arms on one side to deal with shorter femur as I was told by a cycling pediatrist that I had 8mm shorter tibia and 8mm shorter femur on the right leg. So on my right side i pushed my pelvis forward and it looked like i was sitting to the right on my saddle. When actually i needed to push my pelvis back. Make sure you’re sitting square on the saddle. Also my hamstring is weak and the pain was actually at the head of the hamstring and not the glute
