How To Start Babywise Late
Hi there. You are new to On Becoming Baby Wise. For whatever reason, you haven’t used any of the principles yet and you want to now. You are ready for great night sleep, daytime naps, and a predictable daily schedule. But you don’t know where to start. I was there once. Despite the fact that a friend told me all about Babywise when I was pregnant with Brayden, my oldest child, and it sounded like a good idea to me, we hadn’t even read the book when he was born. We figured our natural instincts of parenting would kick in and everything would be peachy. But they weren’t! And so after a month of Brayden’s life (which seemed like an eternity to me), we decided to go buy the book.
The steps you need to take to get started with the Babywise method and get baby on a great schedule. You can start late and still have great success!

      My baby is in bed around 7:00 and up at 5:30 and I think it’s extending of night sleep. He’ll feed but then wants to party/babble for half an hour before deciding he’s still tired. I’ll usually leave him be until 6 or 7:00. Doyou go by the get up time or the wake up time for calculating wake window? For ex if baby wakes at 6:00 but stays in crib in the dark, babbling until 6:30 would you start counting from 6:30 for their 2h wake window until the next nap?

    • @BabywiseMom
      @BabywiseMom หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ClaudetteDuPont7 This ends up depending on the baby--some babies will need that wake time in the crib counted as exact wake time. I typically counted it more as "half" time, so if they were awake for 30 minutes in the crib, it was more like 15 minutes of wake time. It can change with age, too. Here are a couple of posts that talk about that more: www.babywisemom.com/how-to-calculate-waketime-length/ and www.babywisemom.com/waketime-when-baby-wakes-early/

    Is it a bad idea to have any screen time while doing blanket time? I have a 4 year old 3 year old and 1 year old. My four year old is VERY behaviorally challenged and always has been. Is he too old to do this with? He struggles the most with obedience out of all of them… out of all children I know actually… so I thought maybe he could benefit a bit from this. Would I do all 3 at the same time on separate blankets or make it a more individual thing so they can observe each other and learn from one another? Sorry for all the questions! Always been a babywise mama but never tried blanket time.

    • @BabywiseMom
      @BabywiseMom 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Screen time...you could do it sometimes. The point of this is to work on listening to mom, respecting boundaries, and self-entertaining. So you could do it at times, but I would also try it without screen time. Your 4 year old definitely can do this! I probably wouldn't do all three at the same time (but when you do, I probably would do three different blankets). I would start one on one so you can establish rules and focus on one child at a time. You don't want to be too distracted and you don't want younger kids watching older kids disobey and following that example. But once kids have it down, it would be great to do at the same time! Good luck!

    Babywise is the most evil program you could ever consider using to raise your children. It destroyed our daughter's life. Shame on Gary Ezzo - he is an evil psychopath who had ruined countless lives. We followed his 20-minute rule that requires you to allow your baby to cry for up to 20 minutes and it turned her against us. She hates us. We raised our second daughter without using this evil program on her and she loves us. Just Google "Gary Ezzo evil" and view the results. Gary Ezzo should be in prison.

I had set 6am morning wake up so that we are going down for nap at 7pm in carseat but she doesnt always sleep well or stay asleep once we are back home or i have to get her out for some reason and we end up being awake and then when home i feed her to get her to settle and everything goes out the window. He is a really gassy baby and also had reflux as an infant so I'm jaded as far as wanting to pick up and soothe. Hi! Thank you so much for all this information. It is helping me with my 4th newborn, who is now 10 weeks. I do have a question: I’m not sure what to do because since I have 3 other children, and I have to take them to school in the morning, the baby ends up having a short nap in the car seat driving around in the van. How can I avoid this? Wake time is 7 AM, but we have to leave the house at 8 AM to drive to school and I’m not home until 9:15 AM because I take my 6yo to kindergarten and my 4yo to preschool.

    What does the schedule look like when cluster feeding, how do you do EWS in the 2 hours? My 15 week old still wakes 1-2x in the night, with no difference with a dream feed. Recently she always wants another feed just when I am putting her down after bath/ bedtime routine at 830, but how do I avoid feeding her to sleep?

    • @BabywiseMom
      @BabywiseMom 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cluster feeding can turn into a series of dreamfeeds, so your baby might be basically asleep when feeding. So you would feed at 6, 8, and 10 (as an example). A baby who does cluster feeding is young enough that awake time is not more than an hour (including feedings), so you still have EWS cycle. The naps are just short. So feed at 6, bed at 7, then if you feed at 8, you want to feed and go right back down, and at 10 feed and go right back down.

    Thank you for this, it was very helpful in answering some questions I've had. Do you recommend waking baby to feed, if baby is sleeping well? How and when does the routine become more consistent?

    • @BabywiseMom
      @BabywiseMom ปีที่แล้ว

      You are very welcome! Yes I do recommend to wake a sleeping baby when it is time to eat. All three of my girls had to be woken up to eat almost all of the time. With that, if you are on a 2.5 hour feeding schedule and the baby is still asleep, I would be willing to do 3 hour for that cycle so long as it didn't interfere with the total number of feedings in that day. In other words, you want to make sure your baby would still get enough feedings in the day. Also, sometimes you try to wake your baby up for a feeding and that just doesn' work out. In that case, try for about 10 minutes to wake baby up, then let baby sleep for another 30 ish minutes and try again.

    Hi, what if your baby’s nap is short, like 30-1 hr? Do you still feed right after the nap and start the cycle again?

    • @BabywiseMom
      @BabywiseMom ปีที่แล้ว

      If your baby is hungry, yes. Feed right away. If not, you can wait up to 30 minutes before feeding baby to try to stay closer to a 2.5 hour feeding cycle.

    This is great! 30 years ago, I used Ezzo curriculum and it worked beautifully for my daughter, and my five nieces and nephews, who followed her! Now is a grandma, I’m getting ready to take on watching my newborn grandson 1 to 2 days a week, and I need to brush up

    Thank you for the information! My baby is currently 5 months old. She used to have a great morning nap but it gradually became less time and now it’s probably around 45-50 minutes after a 1 1/2 hour wake window. I find that baby will take a longer nap in the afternoon but it’s pretty unpredictable. What should I do to extend the morning nap?

    • @BabywiseMom
      @BabywiseMom ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried adding a bit of wake time before the first nap? Also, see this post for ideas for this age range: www.babywisemom.com/10-reasons-your-5-8-month-old-has/

    Couldn't click on this video fast enough! My 12 week old is on a 3 hour schedule (wake windows 60-90 mins) with 4 naps a day but wakes up 45 minutes (1 wake cycle) into her naps, particularly as the day progresses. Sometimes she's quietly sucking on her hands and whinging a bit but often all out wailing. When she's wailing I'll wake a few minutes then quickly resettle her but that doesn't help. Since she's woken up 45 mins (at least) early, then her wake window before the next nap is messed up. She usually sleeps the entire length of the 1st nap, 2nd nap is 50/50, but the 3rd and 4th naps it's a guarantee she wakes up 45 mins in. The 2nd nap of the day she can sometimes re-settle herself back to sleep or doze on and off. The only suggestions my experienced Babywise mamas have is to put her to sleep on her tummy (not willing to do that though) and make sure she's getting good feeds. I'm desperate for answers!
