Another annual river trip in the books for us on the San Marcos River and it was a kayaking adventure! We camped at a beautiful spot, we kayak fished, we cooked some great food, we enjoyed the nature, and we had an epic time. As a novice I am always looking for the next step in the evolution into a veteran kayaker, camper, and all around outdoorsmen so follow along and drop a comment and let me...
THE SAN GABRIEL RIVER - A HIDDEN GEM!
มุมมอง 4243 หลายเดือนก่อน
My first ever trip to the San Gabriel River, and I didn't really know what to expect. The water level was decent, the water itself was clear clean and beautiful, and the scenery was great. This is definitely a river I will be exploring more in the future!
Lampasas River Kayaking and Fishing for White Bass
มุมมอง 2004 หลายเดือนก่อน
I recently moved into a new area and started to explore the local fishing/kayaking areas and came across a place called Gravel Crossing on the Lampasas River. I decided to take my kayak out there and explore a bit of the river and do some fishing.

Haha. I wish I could take the credit but it’s genetic.
Your videos are so good, so great. I really enjoy watching your videos. Wishing you lots of health and success
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this valuable kayaking safety tip.
Thank you for watching!
How cool! I’ll have to show my friend Melissa. She kayaks a lot! Where is this located?
It’s in Georgetown. I put in at a park called Blue Hole Park. It’s really pretty there and easy access!
Bad ass mfs!
We had a great time!
Beautiful river
It really is! I'm going to look into sections of the San Gabriel further West to try to kayak or maybe even kayak camp if I can find an island or something.
@@Buenas_Vistas nice
My buddy and I went there after watching your first video. It was a nice, leisure paddle and a heck of a lot of fun. We didn't make it as far as you two did. Looks like we will have to go back again. Great video
Good to hear! I drove over a section of the San Gabriel just this past weekend and it looks really nice there. I am thinking of trying to do other stretches of it further West. It would be cool if I could do an overnighter and kayak camp it. Thanks for watching!
Awesome dudes!
Thanks! We had a great time out there. I saw some beautiful stretches of the San Gabriel further west this past weekend. I may try to do a stretch of the river out that way.
Looks like y’all had a blast. Just a friendly reminder, be sure to pack out all trash. I am looking forward to seeing your your next adventure.
It was a blast! I have a video of a trip on the San Gabriel River publishing later today! We usually end up bringing back more trash than we took out there. It’s pretty easy to just throw things in the kayak and fish them out later so we try to pick up whatever we see as we go.
I'm going back again very soon! Ask me any questions about Garner or kayaking on the Frio and I will answer them to the best of my ability. I hope to run into you out there on the water some day!
This river is 💕I go every year i leave for it on Thursday
Nice! The flow is kind of low right now, but if you go to the Old Garner Oakmont section the level is always nice because of the small dam there. Have fun!
@@Buenas_Vistas we go to majors crossing, usually float happy hollow, seven bluffs, or the top half of the river, another float we do is really cool idk what it's called tho
Is that Thompson Island on the San Marcos River?
It is! Beautiful spot to spend some time while kayaking down the river.
I got to sit and actually watch this whole video primo. It was amazing. It literally brought joy to my soul. I love these memories and glad they are being recorded.
I’ll see you next time!
Richard is awesome. Have used to shadow several times..
He’s genuinely a great guy. We always enjoy our time with him. Very laid back and he even comes and picks up his gear afterwards. I always try to recommend him whenever I get the chance.
Awesome Video, you guys sure look like your having a good time. The angles were awesome…I love Texas
We’ve made it a yearly thing and if anything each year it’s getting bigger! Next year I may have to rent 3 camping spots! Thanks for watching!
Looks like a fun river.
Can't wait to get back!
You should use your big head as an anchor!
ha..... ha..... ha.....
Sick video, man! Thanks for sharing. I really like your energy and the overall vibe of the video, real tranquil.
Awesome! Thank you!
Niiiiice!!!
Cheers!
Thanks for showing us this river, I’ve always been curious about it!!
I have a spare kayak FYI.
Kayak cart makes things so much easier. Where is the put in and take out. Nice Bass at 0:52
A kayak cart is definitely going to be a game changer for my solo kayaking. I put in at Blue Hole Park in Georgetown Tx, and paddled upriver and then back down again. The bass was probably my PB tbh. I mostly fish for white bass and crappie.
This is in my backyard. Excellent video!! Thank you
@@DiegoOrtiz-jl1hg Thanks for watching! We are looking at moving to the Georgetown area in a year or so. My wife got a job down there.
That is a beautiful river.
It really is!
@@Buenas_Vistas thanks for taking us along.
Recording the experience to show it to others makes it even more enjoyable. I’ve been working on my editing skills a lot more lately as well.
You look like you're doing well with that@@Buenas_Vistas
That River sure is a Gem. Thanks for showing us
It really is! I almost went to my old "go to" instead and I'm glad I didn't.
I use a retractable dog lease with a 5 lb weight plate as my anchor. I hook it to my yak with a large carabiner. Nice video b.t.w! You gained a new subscriber!
The 5 lb weight holds your kayak in place well? I have all three of those things so I'll be sure to give that a try! And thanks for subscribing!
Where do you attach it to on your kayak?
I have a OG Coosa as well. A retractable dog leash is actually meant to be used. Can’t remember what size, put the retractable part in the handle area facing backwards with the line going down the side of the yak towards the back handle. Use a big chain wrapped in an old bike tube. Works great!
@@hootonoutdoors thanks for the great info!
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video! I haven't been on the river in a couple of years. Me and my sons use to put in at the bridge in Ding Dong! We live in Temple. Water has been shallow for years. I'm trying to fish this weekend so this video let me know the levels. Maybe I'll see ya on the river some time!
I have been considering the levels in Ding Dong for a trip! Still seems low over there right now too. Maybe when the lakes are back to 100% the rivers will be better too. Lately I’ve been considering the San Gabriel. Either way, if you’re out there we’re bound to run into each other sooner or later!
Is it necessary to reserve a camp spot??
Yes for Garner State Park you have to reserve a camping spot well in advance as it fills up pretty much as soon as there is any availability. It's worth it though!
@@Buenas_Vistas is it only online reservations?
@@alburvarraaa2711 I am not positive but I think you can call to make a reservation as well.
This is making want for do some kayak fishing
Looks like a lot of fun Kevin!!!😊
@@Adventure.America That's one thing I have been wanting to do and I just haven't done it..
It takes some work usually but it’s always a lot of fun and in the end you just remember how much fun it was.
@@Buenas_Vistas for sure
Nice ❤
Thanks for watching! :)
Is Garner State Park an awesome place.
It’s amazing! Truly a great experience. I only planned for 3 days and two nights last time and it’s super hard to get a reservation, but there was so much more to do there. I would definitely recommend it.
I have been there@@Buenas_Vistas
What are you freaking out about at 9:24?! Also, awesome video!
Haha, the camera didn’t pick up the noise but something was rustling around up the hill by the bank. Probably some wild pigs. I’ve been told there are a lot in the area. Thanks for watching!
Looks like you cought some decent bass after a rough trip up the river!!! Great video!!! Have a wonderful day?!!👍👍😊
Thanks! You too!
Hey, Troy
@@hikingwithjackieboy hello Kevin!!!👋😊
Looks like a real nice fishing spot!!!😊
Thanks, I made a longer video of this trip. I'm uploading it now and it should be up by tomorrow. Thanks again for watching!
@@Buenas_Vistas looking forward to it!!! 😊
Nice video✌🏼 when exactly was this? Keep the good adventures
Thanks for watching! I'm trying to commit to taking several more trips this year, and recording them.
🤘🤘
As many vehicles y’all had you could have driven one (another follow) at takeout place. We’ve done that many times on 7 -10 mile trips. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed
Thanks for watching! We’re pretty new to the whole process and we were worried about where we were allowed to leave a vehicle. Hopefully we’ll get the hang of that soon!

Sounds like a VERY complicated truck
It is definitely a lot to take in when you first get one! That's why I figured it would be a good idea to record it and have something to reference later on. Thanks for watching!
That's awesome. Soo many buttons!!! 👍👍
Great video we are from Corpus Christi, Port Aransas. Is s great beach town.
Thanks! It's a lot of fun to camp on the beach in Port Aransas, but that wind is no joke!
The Frio river is such a Beautiful river.
I'm trying to get back out there but it's so hard to get a spot in the Oakmont section of Garner.
@@Buenas_Vistas If you keep checking the website throughout the week alot of times you will find a cancellation. That is how I normally find them in the Oakmont area!!! 😊
❤ The Frio river. And the Texas Hill country.!!! 👍👍
It was a great trip, I'm trying to book a date for this summer again but it's difficult because it fills up fast.
Lmao
Solid video, the guy talking about the truck is a stud.
If you are in ARFF drop a comment and let me know where you're from!
Me and my family own half of the river and multiple businesses there
Hook a brother up!
