hi,I am planning to pet a new Gold fish again, but I wanted to have a fish aquarium without using any electrical pump.I will usethe Walstad mergid instead.

Oh I know!
Very nice. Good luck. Beautiful setup Thanks for sharing
@@markfranklin8831 Thanks. I finally got the rainbowfish and they seem to like it.
shrimp are the cutest!
@@emmaribena5529 They certainly are. One of them is carrying eggs so that’s going to be fun.
Are you a follower of Father Fish or is this the Walstead method? I will check out the island video for reference. Good to know where the plants are from, nice shout out. I love rainbowfish, I'm happy to see a large set up for them ❤
@@severedvibrations1211 Thanks. When I first setup my dirt planted goldfish tank 11 years ago I was watching Dustin’s Fishtanks and had just read the Walstead book. So it’s kind of a combo of those.
@andrewgoldfish I like the soil/dirt method. I've not had an opportunity to do a long term set up with these techniques so it's good to see them used in your set up
You should get a few neocaridina shrimp, they come in more colours and are almost as hardy as the amano shrimps. The red, orange or yellow ones would match your goldfishes haha.
@@jasontan7523 I’ve been thinking the same thing. Never had shrimp before so it’ll be interesting.
Cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I'm happy to subscribe to yours. Dwarf Neon rainbows would be great in that tank. Also, a lid isn't critical for amano shrimp. i have dozens in all my open tanks. maybe one jumper in 2 years. happy fishkeeping new friend!
@LushSaltyAquariums Thanks. I totally agree. Some blue eye rainbows would look great in there as well 😉
Tanks evolve
@@Heidi.lin...69 they do indeed.
I love your old videos so looking forward to more. Do you still have the comets?
@@Ceretrea Thanks! I had the three red and white common goldfish for five years and I’ve had my current ranchus for six years now.
It’s harder for me too to treat freshwater fish for me than saltwater fish.
@@jackiekearney other than needing to mix the salt I think saltwater fish can be easier to keep in some ways if you stick to the more hardy types.
Can we get update on giant hygro?
@@Batmancontingencyplans hygrophilas are still about the same size. They grow well floating but so far slow growth while planted. I’m wondering if I got a smaller variety. I might try some root tabs.
May I ask do you put rocks in prior to the Fluval? Or you can put rocks on top of the fluval?
@@doug9116 I put the volcanic rocks on top of the Fluval. But you could also put it underneath as long as you don’t have fish who would move the clay balls around.
@@andrewgoldfish thanks so much!
@@doug9116 you’re welcome
I bought a house in April that came with a bunch of comet goldfish in a pond. Small ones, big ones, fancy tailed ones. So I learned about fish keeping. Then I wanted an aquarium, so I got a free 10 gallon from a friend. Used my pond goldfish to cycle the tank with plants and realized goldfish are jerks with plants. lol So now I have a dwarf neon blue gourami and 6 cherry barbs. I put those gold fish back in the pond. LOL
@@Blakhawk1703 yeah goldfish love plants but plants don’t love goldfish 😀
Used to like dirt but it's just too messy when you do maintenance or rescape. Now I use only Eco-complete.
@@nhitc6832 yeah dirt can make a mess for sure

@@conquistador69420 sounds good. I use to have some bacopa in this tank but it only lasted a year or so before getting pulled up. Hopefully you’ll do better.
@@andrewgoldfish so far so good, I try to not give it too much light but enough to make it redish
@@conquistador69420 yeah I’ve lowered all my lights to 50 percent to help keep algae at bay
You must be watching Father Fish videos
@@spiritualsaggi6297 Yes I watched a couple, but I’m not sure if he keeps goldfish or not. I liked his story of keeping a tiny fish in a jar as a kid.
Hope the gravel over the sand works! in my goldfish tank the only thing planted on the sand is Crinum and I placed some rocks around it so that the goldfish wouldn’t dig it out and it works pretty well but I see my sand moving as time passes except for that part where the crinum is. Also that happened to my Anubias too when I spray them with excel to get rid of hair algae and they died back and sprouted new leaves again.
@@skyrimfan1000 if only we could promise our goldfish extra treats if they agree to not pull up the plants.
Hi is it sea sand??
@@hansleybanzigou8001 it’s Carib sea supernaturals aquarium sand, made from quartz I believe, not from corals, since it’s ph neutral.
Very nice. Good luck.
Thanks.
It will look more goldfishy once the babies get moved over. Then we'll see how the goldfish vs plants story goes.
This has nothing to do with goldfish
The baby ranchus are in the tank now. It’s officially goldfish territory. 😉
Just found your videos. Nice :)
Thanks. Hope you enjoy them.
Please do an updated video in a few months. Interested in seeing how the plants fair. I have hygro in just gravel with fert tabs and growing well.
I plan to.
I was just watching your dirt planted goldfish tank video last week glad to see you back !
Thanks. The new iPhone makes it so much easier to shoot and edit.
@@andrewgoldfish hopefully more videos to come, happy Father’s Day and stay healthy
Hey Andrew Thx for adding Hygrophillia Corymbosa in your plant list! Hygrophillia Corymbosa Pro tip: even if your goldfish rip some of the leaves out don't take them out. Under sufficient light even floating single leaves develop root system, and start developing small leaves. My gold fishes rip some leaves from time to time and it even helps this plant propagate.
Will do. I have more plants than I need so I might try “planting” them in the gravel of my Anubias tank and see what happens.
Thanks for the awaited update! Looking forward to seeing more videos
Oomgggg you posted again love your videos❤
Thanks. It’s so much easier to make videos now just using a phone.
Hygrophillia Corymbosa is the only plant who stand toughest against goldfish & it also grows like wildfire 🔥🫡
When I did a search for that Dustin’s fish tanks came up. I might try that in a new tank I’m going to set up.
@@andrewgoldfishI’ve used it and i can say that it grows like crazy in a tank with goldfish
@@Hi-gv6hk thanks for the info. Looking forward to seeing how well they do.
Love ya videos 🔥
Thanks for the update! Your old videos inspired me to use real plants in goldfish tanks. Everyone told me it couldn't be done, and then there was your video with happy goldfish cruising around in a jungle!
Thanks. After nine years there’s not much dirt left, but the Amazon swords are all still hanging in there.
Yay! I thought someone worst may have happened to you. Welcome back and thank you for the update!
Thanks. I kept shooting footage during the last five years so I’ll probably make a bigger update with it all like I did in my first video.
I always wondered where you went! I was waiting for a cheddar update…😂
Hi there. The original two ranchus died this year, but their kids are now all in the same tank and breeding.
Ever thought of getting ramshorn to tag team the algae? There reproduce as long as there is algae & extra food and stop when they've reached a snails to algae ratio. Also they're beautiful especially the red ones. You just need 1-2 ramshorns to seed the entire tank. I myself use them too, they work wonders.
Yes I might do that. I have some pond sails tight now but the goldfish eat them.
We'll watch this channel ❤️
Your goldfish look so cute and chubby.
Ranchus look like water puppies to me. Very cute.
@@andrewgoldfishI always thought of them as Water Hamsters 🐹
Thanks so much for this video! I have gone a little nuts with MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome) and probably have more enthusiasm than brains. I have two tanks for my Den upstairs where my 180 gallon and 125 gallon already have stands. My unfinished basement will eventually contain 75 gallon tanks I purchased a year ago during Petco’s annual sale on tanks. And your video just showed me how to build very nice stands for those. 😊😊😊
I love you natural goldfish aquarium! I am looking at building a 55g natural fancy goldfish tank with 3-4 fish fancies and school a of white cloud mountain minnows, snails and a weather loach. I've been trying to find a video like yours and there doesn't appear many people keeping goldfish this way. Maybe in a pond outside which I've done before :). comets
Thanks for the comment. How did your plans turn out?
@@andrewgoldfish I added 2 fancies a couple of days ago. I will be posting a new video soon.

This is an interesting story - going from salt water for 20 years to Goldish... usually you see the other way around freshwater to salt water
True. I miss the trigger fish, but don’t miss the saltwater changes.
Dirted planted tank is the way to go.
I agree. But after nine years I wonder if I should “re-dirt” the tank.
Hey there! I’ve been searching so much online and just need a tiny bit of hope here. We bought a 200 gallon aquarium and are excited for it. Saw some cinder block ideas and pirchased 15. Planning on stacking 3 under each corner and 3 under the center and run two thick pieces of plywood along the top of the blocks. Will this be enough to hold the weight of a full 200 gallon? Thanks!
I just came back to TH-cam after a break. How is the 200 doing?
