Weekly vlogs about yoga, travel and my life in Copenhagen, Denmark as an American expat.
COPENHAGEN VLOG: Snow Day, Pet Passport, Brewery & Bar, Signing Up for Danish Class, Cozy Night
In this vlog, join me as we visit one of my favorite bars in Copenhagen. We take a friend to grab some food and drinks at a local brewery. I experience my first snow day in Denmark. I try not to injure myself while running on icy paths. I also share an update on my first (super short) conversation in Danish and how I've signed myself up for free Danish language classes. I obtained pet passports for my dogs during their first visit to a Danish veterinarian. This was just an all-around cozy, productive week in Copenhagen.

Lifelong Copenhagener here. I welcome you and your husband to a new life.
I'll give you one advice: Winter here is hard. No so much because its cold, but its dark for three months in a row. Survive winter and spring in Denmark is amazing.
Great... welcome.. and now you can see the beauty of Denmark. And you moved out that third world country called the US of A...
Your biking looks fine to me 🙂🇩🇰
@@sismofytter thank you ☺️
😊
I really love your smile and positivity during the whole vlog. 😃 Remember, when it is the darkest outside, to cuttle up in your sofa corner with a cup of hot chocolate, some pancakes and a good book = Hygge - That always help pulling through the short dark days.
@@hannekristensen6506 thank you so much ☺️ I love the cozy image you’ve painted. I’m definitely going to embrace the hygge mentality this winter!
Check the weather? Just look up to the sky and u will see what the weather would be
It will soon end, the short days, and they will become longer, and colder. And the Respect from learning the local language will give you an extra Plus. And the profits will be considerable. Finn. Denmark
You and your family are most welcome in Copenhagen. Hope you will all be happy here. And I am very impressed with your pronunciation of Danish, which is usually tough for a non Dane.
9:58 why would it be?
@@User-o3m2m it totally shouldn’t be! 😀 It’s a common misconception among expats that it’s not necessary to learn Danish if you’re living in Copenhagen because everyone speaks english and everything is translated to English. I was told this on many occasions before my move here. So I was pleasantly surprised to realize that Danish language is still incorporated in everyday life here. As someone who is eager to learn the language, I’m glad whenever I’m forced to translate signs and instructions. It helps me to learn!
@@asaadacwhatt? That’s a common misconception ppl have? I have never heard of that before. As a Dane, sure most ppl here speak some English, but it’s definitely not close to being one of our main languages, I think more people here speak German than english even. But yes, our education system did well teaching kids English- but failed at many other things 🤣 I want to move out of Denmark haha
@@User-o3m2m You are totally wrong.
Just found your channel. From the US. Fell in love with Denmark a long, long time ago and I look forward to your future vlogs. Thanks for sharing. Also, you're not missing anything in the US.
@@GregAcer Hello! 🤗 I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the vlog. It’s a relief to hear that I’m not missing out haha
in under a month, the days starts to get longer.
The Danes have an expression: There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.
@@lisa_and_christian I’ve heard that one! And they’re right. As long as you’re dressed for the weather, it isn’t so bad 😃
Taking Swedes to a bar, you're brave 😏
@@Alhem11 😂
You two should come to Aalborg, ill give you tips on what to see
@@ronnie5329 we will definitely take you up on that! I can’t wait to see what the rest of Denmark has to offer 😃
Yaaas Queen, that burger looked so goooood
@@kennethAmos8929 it was absolutely delicious! 😋
Oaaaw your First snow in Copenhagen! I really enjoyed and laugh watching your vlogg today, and I caught myself looking forward next eeek when you drop your next vlogg. Do get both vitamin C and D, even me are taking it from October to April. Miss you and the boys! 🥰🐶❤️
@@amelitaeggert4839 I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying the videos! I started taking vitamin D today. I will have to buy some vitamin C. Can’t wait to see you, hopefully this Christmas 🤗 ❤️
You got the right approach about the language & i'm well aware it can cause some awkward situations encountering people in Danish, since you might not be able to understand what's coming next. Just let people know you're still learning, they will understand & probably switch to English, or they might ask you about learning it, which i think is a great conversation topic to make new friends. All the best from Østerbro
@@svendemadsen8275 thank you! 😊 I will take your advice
Im pretty sure youre the twin sister to Ida Corr 🙂 Also the weather is a fundamental part of Hygge
@@thomashovgaard3134 I had to look up who she was, and what a compliment! Thank you ☺️
Keep running/exercise outside, you will get used to it and fresh air is always good.
@@Gert-DK its tough with this cold, but I definitely will continue to run! 💪🏾 👍🏾
@@asaadac Yeah, and yesterday we had a heat record, for a day in November, it might get beaten already today. Global heating is listening to you 🙂 Got 2 go. Going out to plant some palm trees 😉
@@Gert-DK I think it is! I was actually sweating during my run this morning. This weather switches up so fast
Hvordan har du det? Jeg har det godt, tak
Danish weather, not Copenhagen...
I hope the US can adopt some of the European ways or Danish ways to do things, to make it an even greater nation. Seems like life in the US is much harder, especially for people with low income or without a proper education. So if there was one thing I believe the US could benefit from, was “free” education for everyone.
Great videos. Let me reply in Danish and I will keep it simple.
Welcome to Denmark. I know you will like it here. It's very different to the US in some ways, and it will forever change your view of the US when you have lived here a few years. I can recommend the TH-cam channel Traveling Yung, a family that moved here from the US and have lots of tips.
Move back, nobody likes Americans in Denmark.
Well, speak for yourself.
@ Spurgt.
You are not well-mannered enough to speak on behalf of others.
Remember to tell danish people not to glamourise the american way of life, because real vikings dont want your american ways over here. You can keep your crazy work week and homeless on the streets, and send back halloween too we already have fastelavn.
You Will have to learn the danish concept of “hygge” 😄 It Will help you get through the Dark months. Along with warm clothes and vitamin D3 witch is so important. ❤️
Welcome to Denmark 🇩🇰❤️ I Think you moved to Denmark in just the right time and I hope you Will be very happy here 🇩🇰❤️ You are doing Well with learning danish. And everybody speaks english in Denmark too. Subscribed to your Channel today 🙂
I am planning a solo trip to Copenhagen for a few days next month. Whilst watching videos about Copenhagen I came across yours. We are both women of colour and I just wanted to ask have you experience any form of discrimination since you been in Denmark ?
@@melishaplacide-pierre7035 how exciting! I hope you enjoy your time here. Just be sure to prepare for the windy, cold weather. I haven’t experienced any overt discrimination personally, although I know it happens here, as it does all over the world. I grew up in the southern U.S., where discrimination is rampant, so I was a bit nervous about moving to a place where the population is so homogenous. However, no one in Copenhagen has made me feel “othered” and people for the most part just keep to themselves. The Danes that I’ve interacted with seem to be more interested in the fact that I’m American rather than my blackness. I hope that gives you peace of mind as you prepare for your trip!
@ thanks for the reassurance and hope you are settling in nicely in Denmark. I reside in the northern part of the UK so at times I feel like there are some discrimination that’s why I was asking to see if it’s much less the same. Indeed I look forward to my first European travel outside of the UK and am happy I decided on visiting Copenhagen 😊. Thanks again.
C’est très bien Copenhague😊
Happy birthday 🇺🇸🇩🇰🥳🎉🎂 Hope you had a great day after all 🥳❤️
@@kennethAmos8929 I did! Thank you so much! 🤗
@ love to hear that, and I know you miss home and all your traditions, but it will get better here, for you and your hubby 😊
The danish letter "Å" is pronounced as a low "A" like in "water". In the older days "Å" was written "aa" and it still is in older names ..
You are making Denmark even more beautiful 👌so wellcome and happy birthday to you 😊!
@@thormodlarsen2555 that’s a lovely thing to say! Thank you 😊
With Thanksgiving coming up, try and find a place where you can introduce yourself to the community of American expats in Copenhagen!
Happy Birthday, Asaasa! Hope you had a nice day. And remember to - take your C and D-vitamin😊🍊
@@Julleisa haha thanks for the reminder! So important during these dark days 😃
Years ago I watched The Ultimate Ballet in the Royal Theater: Peter Martins version of "Swan Lake" during a number of special Performances which took all of the Company and its effort, for a long time! But sitting just in front of the Scene, listening to the beautiful music and being able to hear the Dancers move (if any closer we would have to be able to play an Instrument!), was really an experience! Finn. Denmark
@@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 that sounds like a wonderful experience! I can only imagine how lovely it was to see Swan Lake (one of my favorites) in that gorgeous theatre 🤩
Getting new traditions doesn't mean you lose some, you just get more. Happy birthday ☺
@@Alhem11 that’s a great way to put it. I need to remember that! Thank you 😊
Best of luck.Hope You and Your husband will be happy in Your new country.Very welcome.
@@bjørnrosengren-q1y thank you! ☺️
Congratulations! But the longer you live in Denmark the more absurd it will be to come back to the US and its bad food and strange habits. And you don't need a car to find a Shop on the next corner! You have come to a country with more pigs than people, so don't expect us to become mostly vegan in the near future! But honestly, a Swede, in Copenhagen! Finn. Denmark
There are a few Thanksgiving events in Copenhagen mainly for American expats. I've gone quite a few years. There are both restaurants like American themed ones and private dinner parties. You could also invite someone yourselves if you are up for that sort of challenge. You really should look into it though. There are options! Oh, and it might also be a good way to introduce yourself to some of the American expat community. It's getting quite big.
🥳hbd!

Tillykke med fødselsdagen! ❤🎁 You are experiencing the benefits of growing older. The griefs lies many years ahead. Enjoy your youth, your husband, the new familiy in Sweden and your parents coming to Denmark. Maybe they will move here too (just kidding).
@@MogensDam thank you so much! 🤗 Haha I don’t think I can convince my family to move from sunny Georgia to this cold country, but I hope they’ll visit often!
Those were some deep and emotional thoughts you brought here. I could almost feel them myself. I understand what you feel, and also thought that it is right that once in a while in life you have to take chances to develop and seek happiness. And your family will always be with you, even if they are not physically there. Have fun with the ballet. By the way, there is a tradition of standing up if the royal family is also in the royal theatre, and then sitting down when they has sat down. 😉 Happy birthday. ☺🎂🎁🎉

the reason u left america doesnt really add up, from my pov. U can live a healthy life in america, u can find work/family balance etc. They also have tons of support for Women/Mothers; thats why so many illegal immigrant/single mothers have recent moved here, because America has social services unlike many other natiions. As far as safety, Denmark is safer than the USA, but its for reason much deeper than "culture". U can experience crazies/crime anywhere on this planet. But to act like crime in America is unavoidable is a false narrative thats way over used. Been here since the 1980s, and things use to be much worse. GL to you though.
But as she said. In Denmark her family will have 52 weeks paid maternity/paternity leave. And her children will not have to train how to act if a shooter comes to their school.
