Deafblind Tips 18: Folding Cane
Hello, Heather here. I would like to share another Deafblind tip called "folding cane". Many Deafblind people go out with friends, family, or commguides, and find it hard to communicate in sign language while holding a cane. I will show you a few ways to rest your arms and prevent your cane from getting dirty on the cafe floor. Enjoy this video, which shows:
- Folded cane tucked in belt
- Folded cane hooked over chair frame
- Folded cane tucked in backpack strap
- Folded cane in pouch
- Extended cane tied to tram pole inside tram
- Extended cane hanging from coat hook at DBV's "cane parking bay"!
The way I tie the cane to the tram pole holds it secure while travelling, but allows me to easily grab it without untying it.

Brilliant. A braille lebelling video with no sound.
Amazing so many stories
Very helpful video! Greetings from Brazilian deaf community 🤟🏻🇧🇷
Enjoying indeed
Why is there no audio or transcript of this video? I understand that this is for DeafBlind people who use Auslan, but there are different levels of DeafBlindness - some of us can still hear or use a braille display to read the transcript. Could you please look at making these videos more accessible for the wide sectrum of people who are DeafBlind? Thank you.
Hi Stephanie. Thanks for your comment and interest in videos from Deafblind Victoria! To answer your question, Deafblind Victoria is a self-advocacy group run by and for Deafblind people in Victoria. Many of us are totally blind and profoundly deaf and we cannot always make translations immediately. We sometimes upload videos here so we can show them elsewhere at an event that is interpreted live, or alongside an announcement in text on social media or email. We would love for all communications to be available in Auslan and plain English (spoken, large print, braille) and welcome volunteers or funding that would help make this possible! Please get in touch if you would like to help. There is a lot more work to be done. In this case we have now added a text translation to the video description above. I see you've posted this comment on several other videos on this channel; I'll paste this reply there too.
