Great video! I recently bought a relic M1 with fixed bales, and there's no way I'd be able to find the heat stamp, however your tips about the shape of the bales and the punched dot helped me figure out that it was a McCord shell. Thanks again!

Hello, I liked your video, but you have a couple of serious errors that Id like to point out. The circle of large pillars are not radar and they were never used to assist the B52's at all. The large circle was a receiving antenna aray. Used bt the Army Security Agency to collect SIGINIT for the NSA. The antenna is called a FLR-9 and can be used to recv a wide range of frequencies for a direction of 360 degrees. I was stationed in Augsburg, FRG and worked at such a site for four years. ASA had one mission. That was to collect information for NSA. We had direct contact with them, and used to retransmit data to them every 10 minuites when the analists were able to break the coded messages we received. I hope this info will clear up things about you story... Wayne Miles

the pink ID card is the ferrang ID card. if you do it right you get it at the same time as the yellow home registration book. love the video it is very helpful as i am about to change from the marriage visa to the retirement visa. i have heard say that you have to prove the money comes from outside Thailand. is that the case?

Is that visor profile unique to the Schlueter made helmets? I ask this because I have a relic condition helmet, its a rear seam helmet, it's markings all rusted away, its side profile is exactly like my fixed bale, front seam Schlueter. It does not have the oval welds of a McCord.

Some of the antennas were removed. I saw one like this at Clark AFB in the Philippines. In fact this is RDF radio directional finder station notice the very low frequency antenna VLF it might be used to locate the submarine to form triangular method together with the one in the Philippines and somewhere else like Taiwan.

Enjoyed the video. I have always wondered how officer rank insignia was affixed to helmets such as Gen Patton's stars? Glue? Welded? How? Does anyone have an answer? NOT the painted rank insignia, but the actual metal insignia.

OK...Where you came out of the tunnel, you arrived where the Classified Operations Building was located. That's the building that was destroyed. It contained the radio intercept, communications center and all other ASA Classified Operations. It also contained all of the KW26 and other encryption equipment that was used for the inbound/outbound transmission circuits. Seeing that is was the only Classified location on base, it was destroyed. And again, never any radar on base. And the plaque from the B52 Dispatch, was probably just a thank you plaque, since we allowed the Air Force personnel to use our Officers Club and other amenities that the Air Force base didn't have. The 7th had concrete air conditioned barracks, while the Air Force base had mostly quanson huts with no AC.

  • @marshallbrinson2815

Was at the 7th RRFS for three tours. First two consecutively from 68-70. Then to Ft Hood for two months and back to the 7th for a 3rd tour. 1. There was never any type of actual prison established at the 7th. The closest any type of jail was a few miles down the main road, toward Udon, that was a Thai Police barracks. 2. There were never any aircraft on base at the 7th. All aircraft were at the Udon USAF Base. 3. There was never any type of radar set up on base. The large circular antenna was strictly for radio signal intercept and nothing else. The round building in the center held cabling and electronics to operate the antenna. The verticle antennas on base, were for encrypted radio transmission. 4. When I arrived in 1968, the operations building was nearly finished. All operations were still outside in vans. We, later, moved all operations into the new Operations Building. That is where the radio intercept and inbound/outbound teletype circuits were located. We had circuits to various locations in Vietnam and to NSA at Ft Meade. 5. The long tunnel you traversed was almost full of cabling that ran between the Classified Operations Center and the Round Building in the middle of the Intercept Antenna. 6. Basically, the only people allowed inside the Operations Building were ASA Personnel and all had top level security clearances. We never controlled any B-52's or any other aircraft. Again, all of that was done from the USAF Base, closer to Udon Thani. 7. If there had ever been an attack on the Udon area military bases, the USAF was under orders to protect the 7th RRFS before their own base, due to the classified nature of our Army base.
