Bro is cooking with this one
Meglio.
a fun version... i especially like Nathan's clarinet on this. i think my favorite rendition of this tune is the 1952 Ellington Uptown recording
Nice job, guys!!
Beautiful Clarinet vibrato!
Nice to see a band dressing up. Unusual nowadays! Nathan's first chorus is very like Benny Goodman's introductory chorus with Billie Holiday in 1935.
You'd be happy to know that Nathan's youth band dress up too :).
Sophia you are great!!!!!!!!!!
Great as always, and special kudos to Mr. Chen's fine piano. I'll search for more of his work.
Thanks, Doug. Charles is an amazing pianist.
Man Nathan's got himself a NICE band! Great playing from all involved!
I LOVE this one. Benny Goodman's 1953 (and maybe only existing) recording is by far my favorite version!
@@PiotrBarcz You meant 1935? What a band that was!
@@sunnytokunaga No no 1953! It's one of the recordings from The Fletcher Henderson arrangements :D Never had been recorded before and Helen Ward was singing!
@@PiotrBarcz How about this - th-cam.com/video/djd06zp47HQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UwSpbI7NGAMbAanU - with Billie Holiday :)
@@sunnytokunaga Oh yeah I know that recording! I suspected Benny was playing clarinet on quite a few of those Teddy Wilson sessions. I personally think that tempo is a bit too fast but I'm used to the Henderson arrangement recording from '53. Billie Holiday honestly ain't my style but I won't deny she knew who was good and sung with the best!
PIanist was COOKING on this one too!
Nathan does the most accurate transcriptions of Goodman's solos I swear! Perfect inflection, perfect tone, nobody does it with such quality! (not to mention the improvised solos are some of the best I've heard PERIOD and that is NOT an exaggeration I assure you)
@@PiotrBarcz thank you!!
Sounding great!!!
Nice transcription, if you have the written notes on note paper, I would be interested in getting a copy. Thanks
Que moça chata estragou a filmagem
Rob Thomas recorded a couple of the tunes from this set (you can see his mics in the frame by Adrian's tenor sax). I've watched the recordings of I Got Rhythm and You're Driving Me Crazy at least 50 times each at this point, they're just so damn good.
Coming from a classical background gives you so much improvisation patterns to work with that you wouldn't otherwise know if you were picking them up from jazz recordings only!
Roll 'em Nathan!
Very Nice!
Sounds awesome, sounds like Zoot Sims!
Very nice! 🌞 Thinking of the Swedish movie "Saxofonhallicken" ("The Saxophone Pimp"), which is about a woman who can only dance to this particular song.. (and the saxophone playing band member that helps her out).
nathan why are you on my feed
Such a great band! Lead man here is my favorite though xD
Fantastic! Very well done FF!!
@@ner1971 Thanks Nick!!
This is just fantastic to see and hear! Well done everyone.
Thank you so much, Nick!
Cool stuff!
@@PiotrBarcz Thanks 😊
Always a pleasure to hear Duke’s music played well.
Thank you!
Thank you all for coming to Rinconada Library so faithfully the past couple of years. You've developed quite the following here in Palo Alto.
@@cynthiakarpamccarthy6598 Thank you Cynthia! We so appreciate YOU ❤️!
Sunny has the Dodd's thang a happenin???????
OH MY GOD, I'M HERE FOR THE CLARINET OBVIOUSLY BUT SOMEONE GET THAT GUITAR PLAYER A FKN (insert BIG MUSICAL AWARD here) BECAUSE HIS TONE IS INCREDIBLY AUTHENTIC. My goodness, where was this recorded? Because the quality is PHENOMENAL. I'm just dying of good audio quality syndrome right now xD
@@PiotrBarcz The band recorded an entire album at Tritone Productions in Oakland.
@@sunnytokunaga That is EPIC, I just wish the piano was tuned xD
@@PiotrBarcz Lol 🤣...
@@sunnytokunaga Just one of those things I guess XDDD
Thanks! I had Will (guitar) unplug and play acoustic rhythm guitar for this tune. He’s a great versatile player!
Clearly a source of greatly deserved pride for you (and for Nathan). His many TH-cam appearances have been a bright light, and he was mentioned in a recent New York City trad jazz Facebook group (forget exactly which one). As I may have mentioned previously, I used to work at the Palo Alto Main Library before it was renamed Rinconada, so it's a kick to see his performance there.
@@dougmiller254 aww thank you so much, Doug! The best part of playing at the Rinconada Library is the multi-generational audience, from toddlers to teens and adults. When Nathan was very young, we sat through a live performance at our local Belmont library, and afterwards the musician explained to Nathan the instrument played was called a soprano saxophone. Public libraries are wonderful!
This is even better than I remember 😉
Go Nathan!
Swinging like Benny Goodman
Great!!
Damn impressive, considering they are masked! ✊
Man that's a good tune!
Fantastic!👏👏👏👍
@@AndrewClancyJazz Thank you!
You're welcome @@sunnytokunaga
Excellent!
What a wonderful venue! Jazz in its natural environment, as an inspiration for dancing. The band is really in the groove!
@@lesterwyoung It was a magical night!
@@sunnytokunaga One of the ways jazz will survive is through swing dancing. Nathan really on fire here!
Clint always teaching.
Bring back that music!!
Hey man, sound is great! What sorpano mouthpiece are you playing on here?
Give me a bottle of Lone Star Beer! Fine solo by Nathan, not typical part of his repertoire.
Thank you, Doug! Happy 4th!
Awesome, better than the solo I took on it by miles.
Aww thank you!
Loky me fr
Very pleasant.
The trombone and clarinet played so nicely with the acoustics in this hall!
