Landing at Oshkosh 2017 - Fisk VFR Arrival

Follow our arrival at the busiest airshow in the world. We flew the Fisk Approach and had some close encounters with other traffic in the area. After landing we enjoyed a few days at the show before heading home.

    Stumbled upon your video. Two questions. 1. Why are you sitting there holding the brakes while you scroll through your checklist with the tach reading 1300 RPM? The little Continental O200A idles very nicely at 700 to 800RPM. Is there a reason you need to keep the engine revved up that high while setting up the cockpit? Excessive RPM operation on the ground when not moving causes unnecessary abrasion of the prop leading edges and can certainly contribute to adverse effects to anybody unlucky enough to be behind you. And 2. How about mounting the camera anywhere but on your head. I was getting "seasick" just watching this! Anyway, thanks for sharing. "Mike" Kelly "Old School" Aviator and CFI.

    These guys sure do talk a lot while on the FISK arrival, when we went up in 2016 and in 2018 the guy in the left seat made it abundantly clear that once we got to FISK we were supposed to shut the hell up and only call out traffic.

    Enjoyed the Oshkosh video, I've watched quite a few arrivals the last few years hoping to learn before I try it. My buddy and I just bought a 1966 150 and plan to fly to Aventure 2021 from South Carolina. Our useful load is only 533 lbs so, with full fuel, me at 190 lbs, my buddy at 150 lbs, that only leaves us with about 30 lbs of baggage. It's going to be a stretch ! What camera and audio device did you use ? Bob

    I used to fly, so this may seem hypocritical, but what I wonder if the character of the Island is in jeopardy from too much air noise.

    • @lorenjackson8961
      @lorenjackson8961 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are noise abatement proceedures posted. Aircraft are required to climb out to pattern alt 1900 ft msl before turning and absolutely no flying over the shore and town. I've seen many posted videos though where pilots don't follow this rule.

    I really enjoy your videos and have always had a question about flying thru Class C airspace. My question: I take off at a Class G airport and fly VFR towards by destination class G airport which is on the opposite side of the class C. I contact approach and they give me a squawk code. I then pass thru the Class C enroute to my destination airport which less than five miles outside the class C boundry. When I get close to my airport but still in Class C airspace and I want to switch over the my destination airports CTAF Do I first need to contact approach or do I just switch my transponder to 1200 and switch my radio to the CTAF and then land? Or do I contact approach first?
