Yea I cleaned my grandma house real good. Painted white. And ended having to paint the ceiling in the kitchen (where she smoked the most) about 3 times. It kept seeping through. Best way is to strip the drywall and re drywall.

yeah but then you're drenching all of the walls with liquid, and then with the vapor all this humidity will seep in the walls, and mold will form.

Looks like cigarette/cigar smoke residue. It seems to me that "nicotene" would have little to do with it.

Spray nine, t.s.p. a good rinse, a good sanding followed by 2 coats of primer and you're good to go.

It's mind boggling how long this person lived for while torturing their lungs all day. The human body can deal with a lot of poison over time.

I live in a 4-plex building (two on top/two below). I live on top, caddy corner from a heavy-duty smoker below. We have been neighbors for a decade. He's a recent widower whose late-wife also smoked heavily. I'm concerned because he never opens his windows, except his front door. It's so bad that his curtains are stained brown. I noticed after his wife died, the stench has improved a little, but I'm concerned about third hand exposure in our building. The landlord refuses to do anything. I'm not saying he should be evicted, but I'm kinda hoping she'll get him to air out his unit, deep clean it and/or at least provide him an air purifier.

I'm a painter. And we've done many. My concern is the nicotine even after cleaning will still turn your paint color yellow ,or gold as you say. We are doing a old home that customers decides they didnt want to wash walls. They want 2 coats of oil kilz and two coats of paint. We put in contract that it's possible it will turn

I used all purpose cleanser the type you'd wanna use for greasy kitchens. Worked really good it just all melted off instantly.

Ive had better luck with the purple degreaser... You spray it on and it literally melts that smoke away, you can watch it drip... But best to wipe it down before it dries up. Not sure how much your mops can handle, ive had ok luck with swiffer dry pads and then coming back for round 2 with paper towels... Doing this just so i can actually paint - dont think any paint or primer would stick to the smoke...

This is why I keep my cigarette smoking outdoors.
