39:24 to make things more horrible for Homura. Madokas wish was for the sake of all magical girls, not Homura. it gave magical girls the chance to fight for their wishes without becoming monsters and thus, hope. however Homura was the only one exempted from this, her wish could never be fulfilled in the new world created (for obvious reasons). She had sacrificed everything her humanity, her future and her happiness for the sake of madoka and yet in the end was left with nothing but the memories of her madoka. I find it impressive that she could even continue fighting and protecting the world that madoka created.
it's implied, especially from rebellion, that homura didn't fully know whether those memories were real or fake. at the end of the main series, similar to sayaka at the end of rebellion, i'm guessing she viewed madoka as her "greater purpose" or something more spiritual and sacral religious like.... she believed in a heaven, but as the old saying goes: "if you believe in heaven, you best better believe in hell too"
