Resonite Avatar Showcase: Rusty Drone
มุมมอง 10K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
This avatar is by far my longest running project EVER, and the video is honestly just as much of a show of how I'm built to interact with my friends as it is of me doing cool stuff. Edit: I forgot to put Portalmaster18 in the special thanks! I can't stress enough that I look extra awesome because my friends were able to help show me off so well. Come learn how I do what I do: discord.gg/Gwk6CjT...
Rusty Multitool Gripper Animation
มุมมอง 1K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
This only took me about five hours from start to finish! I had my hand already of course, but everything coming out of the panels was done today. This will be the gripping claw part of my built-in multitool in the VR platform Resonite.
Rusty Test Animation
มุมมอง 818ปีที่แล้ว
I decided to finally finish my Blender animation rig. Here it is put to the test! The particles need work, and I haven't even touched the materials yet, but I'm feeling pretty good about it as the result of a 2-day learning frenzy.
Showing off Water Cube
มุมมอง 910ปีที่แล้ว
Recorded in February of 2020, Project 2.1 for Mech 200 built in VR with Anyland The parameters for the project were as follows: The structure must fit in a 6cmx6cmx6cm cube. The structure must hold water The structure must fail in a predicted manner when force is applied to the top I built mine in Anyland and 3D printed it out of PLA. It got a 100% =)

I followed everything. It also worked just before I wanted to save. Is the game crashed, which frustrated me😕
please add subtitles my goat! :(
Feedback noted! I'll make time for it.
@ LETS GO!!! THANK U MY LEGEND :DD
Putting a user pullout in your hand seems super useful! Just got that setup for myself!
how did you achieve that ? tried chipping away a GetActiveUserSelfNode but that dosen't work that well.
Just followed this today and couldn't love it more! Thanks for the tutorial! Is this system preformant enough for public sessions? Fwiw, I added together the GetUps of both hands so they'd control movement in combination and very much dig how that drives.
Nice work! It's a super cheap system in terms of computation, and when it's off it only costs the RAM it takes up.
My favorite part about multitools is how they express the personality of their creator
Do you plan on a model tutorial? i have looked everywhere, but I haven't found a good resonite modeling tutorial to make avatar modifications look good.
Sort of depends on what you mean. If you're talking part/item additions and rigless stuff then yeah absolutely. If you mean rigged meshes or Blender stuff then no, at least not any time soon.
@@RustyManufacturing Thank you for the rosponse! looking forward to it.
12:56 Bro did not need to die
I've been playing resonite for close to three months now but I still will watch this because this might as well already be the nicest tutorial about this topic all around, and who knows, you've never safe from learning a new thing or two, in those 20 minutes of pure bliss
Hey, is it possible to remove friction for the shoes that will let us just slide around on surfaces? Have you played the game Tribes? It has jetpack and "hover shoes" that let you basically ski around on the terrain at amazing speeds and then fling yourself up hills and fire up the jetpack and take to the sky.. It's so liberating and fun but I've never been able to make something like that in a VR thing. Is it possible? I would love to make something like that for VR. The VR game Jet Island also does this and it's really sweet. We just need more of it in VR cause it makes my tummy tingle!
where the legend started ig
what world aare you in?
The Ring! It's The Neolander's space station. The room I'm in is The Lawn, the main habitable section. bsky.app/profile/rustybot.theneolanders.com/post/3lanjfmrvss2x
Guh, I don't want to do this, but I also have 3 tools I switch between all the time, so I guess I should. Annnd it looks like I'm gonna have to have the video open to follow along with this time. No way I'm gonna remember how all that works first time 😅
Oh boy, this video is a godsend. Not only does it generally cover Multitools (there's a couple other vids that do it, but this one goes into greater depth on the topic than the others), but you also discussed how to make a double-click function as part of the Flux logic, which is something I've been wondering about for a while! I have a sort-of hacky solution on another project I was working on a while back (can't remember which, tbh), but it wasn't nearly as elegant as the system you used here. This opens up the doors to a few possibilities for me now...
@@Caldoric that's the goal! I'm trying to be really careful about putting general concepts in these videos that are applicable outside the specific use case I provide. Ideally someone going through this series will be able to gain skills for more than just the main topic.
@RustyManufacturing oh, brilliant. Btw, would you be able to squeeze in a similar mechanism into a future vid, where you set it up for the trigger to be _holding_ secondary for a brief amount of time, instead of just double-clicking? After a bit of consideration, I remembered that _that_ was what I was trying to implement in the aforementioned project, not double-clicking. Still was a hacky solution, so a better option would definitely be appreciated. Of course, the double-click thing is still going to be useful.
I seriously need to get back into this game
radical, i didn't understand anything in this video
Rustybot is nearly a toolbox, got so many go-go-gadget DooHickeys. I just want a lil quickpen
I would love to know how you made the "emote" wheel you have for the eyes on the Rusty Avatar!
I use Index controllers so I activate it with my touchpad. The touch coordinate is a vector input which is super nice for stuff like this. I'll dive into the functionality of that eventually for sure!
Btw, is there any chance you could do a tutorial on how to make an avatar with snappable body parts, like your drone has? Removable arms, head, legs, etc. It'd be nice if it were to show setting the parts up so they can also be snapped to other folks' bodies too.
It's on the list! Though if you're interested then check out www.theneolanders.com/wiki/Documentation/Interactive-Systems for the tags we actually use.
Oh boy, this is _precisely_ one of the things I was looking for information on! I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, but haven't been able to ask folks for assistance because they're either too busy, or everyone in the world (including me) is too distracted being social.
Such an interesting game! It's like a hangout for people to program cool stuff!
Fantastic instructional series. Can’t wait for more.
Please keep this series going! Your tutorials have been the most helpful out of any other for Resonite
you should not learn to my sick brain how to create a gun
Man I need to stop procrastinating and get into this game immediately.
How did you make the big legacy inventory panel?
Just inspected it and adjusted the X value of the canvas to something like 1200
@RustyManufacturing Oh, I didn't even think of that. Great info, thanks!
is there any way to make things in resonite in a regular desktop studio environment like Unity or Roblox?
Sort of. Press F8 to enter/exit desktop mode where you control yourself via WASD. You can snap your camera to UI panels and align things to your view so you can create your own studio in a way.
Dustybot is hidden beyond that fake sky, let him out
This man is single handedly the most confusing yet simple instructor ever. I appreciate you sir.
I always find it funny, the first clip of the video is always the last thing he records. You know cause he has to do the tutorial for the showcase
Actually the intro is sometimes first! The demo object is built days before any recording happens. Then I practice building it object 3-4 times before recording to make as much of it muscle memory as possible, that way I can just focus on talking while the camera's rolling. You can tell the intro was first in this one because the version in the intro doesn't have the OnMiss contingency lol.
@@RustyManufacturing Oh interesting! I didn't even notice
Racast Gun Project Kit
This guy is too underrated 😭
this channel it's gonna be so big :o
Thank you soooo much for doing these! This is going to help me and so many others.
Weaponry 🎉
Wow
This might be one of the coolest player made things ive seen in any game ever
Has smooth lerp 10/10
Followed along this as my first experience with protoflux, and it worked nicely. I changed the animation though, I made it scale down to 0, then I set the parent, location and rotation, and then I made it scale back to 1. I noticed that if I parent first then move the parent while it animates, the object also moves which doesn't look intended. Easy to fix if you hide the object while changing its parent like I did, but if with a "recall" animation I'm not sure how you could fix it.. you'd have to get the object to chase its snaptarget without reparenting it first?
Essentially. If you're going for the effect you're describing with a changing target position like that you would need to control the object directly using While loop which is a bit more advanced than a Tween. Love to hear about the modification too! I made a similar effect for someone a while back. Glad you got creative with it.
I want to know how the tool system in your avatars work as in how do you switch between all of these
So far in this series I've just been using the default tools. My built in multitool is activated via my quick menu and then uses button combinations to swap modes.
Oh it looked so smooth i assumed you had some sort of elaberate gesture system😂
@@KaiSato256 Ha! I mean I basically do. My quick menu is controlled with both touchpads and the button combos are contextual based on what's currently active.
Give it a couple years of polish and resonites gonna be fantastic!
I can't wait for my computer to stop being broken so I can play this again.
This much interaction between other peoples avatars is INSANE
Yes, the openness is amazing. OFC it comes at a cost: security... It's a problem in the metaverse which is yet to be solved.
@@SierraSierraFoxtrot Sorry to bother, but can you give some examples of security risks that come with this freedom? I am genuinely curious.
@@AsrielWasTaken simple: to interact with your avatar means people get access to the code your avatar runs. When you hand someone part of your costume you're giving them code to run, and when you take it back you might get back a copy with different code. Resonite runs code locally, that has potential for all sorts of shenanigans.
@@SierraSierraFoxtrot Thx!
@@AsrielWasTaken you're welcome!
i have a question. is it possible to do inverse kinematics example say a large mech type thing that you sit in
I've built one! It was made for the Metaverse Maker Competition in February 2022. You can find it in my public folder.
@@RustyManufacturing cool I’ll have to check it out 😄
Resonite is just insane!
Awesome! You've made this really easy to understand. Got one question. How wouldyou make your character weightless? I'd love to setup this with a zero gravity toggle and then sort of "pulse" the thruster to drift in a direction.
Either use the SetCharacterGravity node or make a custom locomotion module, there's a default zero-g preset if you decide on the latter.
@@RustyManufacturing Awesome!
I'm glad to see Anyland's system was improved on.
Awesome video! I really wish more tutorials like this existed.
If you need an editor, hmu
Seeing rusty with legs is still cursed 😭🙏
why is there rusty with legs in the thumb nail
Sometimes I have legs now, what's the big deal HUH? In this case though it's because hand thrusters look kinda silly on someone who already has a thruster in place of a lower body lol
