      You have to cage it, with the four original shipping bolts before you remove it. What this person is doing in the video does nothing.

    I do not think they are making this kind of clutch any more. Many years ago I did this style. Now is easy pedal, leap, or solo clutch. Stay away from solo clutch specially if you are not comfortable with shifting, because that clutch is not adjustable, and it could be messed up with inexperienced man.

    I am a retired fleet mechanic who preformed well over 500 brake jobs in my 31 year carrier. Well first off in seeing the video, I could tell it was a self adjuster slack, no need to adjust unless the ( paw ) is stripped then replace the junk slack which means in most cases a puller is no help, so break out the torch to cut the faulty slack off.....expect lots of smoke and small fire..... When adjusting non self adjusters the simple way is to first inspect the shoes to see if there is enough pad, check the ridge on the drum, anything more then a 1/4 inch ware indicates the drum is reaching the end of its life time, if all looks ok, using a 9/16 box end wrench turn clock wise until the shoes press up against the drum, then to get my 1 1/4 inch of push rod travel ( I ALWAYS USED A 16 inch heavy screw driver ) slip it through the clevice pin then pull toward you, to see that 1 1/4 inch has been gained, just a 1/2 turn, back off is usually only required......

    I have solo clutch on 2007 century my mechanic told me tab is on the replacement . But I don't feel any slip or grinding in first and reverse gear .can I adjust that clutch or I gotta replace it now or use it for little while .dealer said always replace from solo to solo clutch if i wanna go to manual I gotta change few things that's what dealer is saying ,I dunno what to do any suggestion .

    • @moocow7590
      @moocow7590 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      little late to answer but there is nothing that has to be swapped out to go to a manual dealers like to sell solos because that tab is plastic and once it breaks you have to replace it

  • @cwj9202
    @cwj9202 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mr. Lloyd, I would suggest that you inform the viewers that once the factory sets the clutch linkage geometry, the only adjustment necessary after that to obtain the recommended clutch pedal free play is to adjust the clutch near the release bearing. I have seen mechanics attempt to set the clutch brake with linkage adjustments -- bad news. Excellent video series.

      @rileybennis4029 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chad Jessup not true after the 1/2 inch adjustment is made you adjust the gap in between the throw out bearing and the fork to 1/8 inch you achieve this by adjusting linkage. You then check to assure that the free play is 1 1/2 to 2 inches!

  • @fd-pr5dl

    This is an automatic slack adjuster. I was always taught that if the slack is out of adjustment, the auto slack adjuster is broken and to REPLACE IT. Manually adjusting it ruins the auto adjust mechanism, it should only be done in an emergency, to allow the truck to get to the Shop for a replacement.

  • @bobbyhorn7059
    @bobbyhorn7059 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man adj the clutch for wear does not have a thing to do with free travel you get 1/2 inch between the throw out bearing and clutch brake then you get your free travel from the top adj linkage.

  • @namentatic4978
    @namentatic4978 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The solo clutches are self adjustable, and after installation, and removing caging bolts off, it should not be adjusted. When the clutch indicator tab reaches a quarter to adjusting end, it is the time for replacement, and I'll recommend to replace this clutch with the E-Z pedal one.

    I had a new clutch installed last week. I work in the oil fields and getting to a shop isn't easy. my new clutch is working it's way to the floorboard. I am adjusting it back out using the clutch quick adjust. why is it un-adjusting ?

    is there a way to shorten stroke? i have been working on container chassis for this outfit. but the customer wants stroke altered to shorter dimensions so it doesn't take as long to release. all the chambers measure 2" and under on all the units. of course i would like them to all be uniform in measurement but donot know how to shorten stroke like these people want me to do.i can't see how it would be done without taking it out of 90 degree range. thanks forr any suggestions. you tech info is great.
